The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesHappy Friday the 13th! According to TV By The Numbers, the ninth episode of Vampire Diaries, History Repeating, raked in an average of 4.31 million viewers last night. We’ll update with more info as it rolls in. UPDATE: Looks like the numbers came out to something like 4.1mil (courtesy of TV By the Numbers), so a little lower than originally thought, but still not bad at all. From the CW press release, courtesy of TV By The Numbers:

VAMPIRE DIARIES matched its second highest rated telecast ever in adults 18-34 (2.3/7) and adults 18-49 (2.0/5), according to preliminary live plus same day Nielsen ratings for Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009.

VAMPIRE DIARIES won the 8-9pm hour in women 18-34 (3.0/9-tie), women 12-34 (2.8/8) and female teens (2.1/7). VAMPIRE ranked second in the hour among adults 18-34 (2.3/7-tie), persons 12-34 (2.1/7-tie) and teens (1.7/6).

VAMPIRE DIARIES continues to improve the time period, gaining 88% in women 18-34 (3.0/9), 21% in adults 18-34, 56% in women 18-49 (2.5/6) and 91% in female teens (2.1/7).

Also, for those who missed the show last night, Amazon now has the ep available for download for people in the USA: standard version ($1.99) and HD version ($2.99).

UPDATE: It’s legit, folks – Marcos Siega has confirmed. Commence fandom squee-fest (and random Firefly quotes) NOW. Fancast’s Matt’s TV News is reporting that Gina Torres has landed a role on The Vampire Diaries:

Sources tell me that Torres will guest star on the freshman drama’s 10th episode as Bree, a “past” associate of Damon’s. Being a bit of a witch, Bree possibly holds the key to the more sinister Salvatore brother acquiring something he desperately wants – access to a tomb.

There were casting sides leaked featuring a “Brue,” with a production code of 110 (which would make it the 11th episode), but if the news if legit, that’s yet another Whedonverse alum dropping in on Mystic Falls (and how awesomesauce was Bianca Lawson as Emily Bennett?). We’re waiting on official word from those who would know before screaming with glee into our pillows. (ZOE!)

Concur about Bianca Lawson and fingers crossed she shows up again in flashbacks with Katherine in 1864. Bunch of stuff to explore there.

I like Gina Torres as an actress and think it’d be great to have her on TVD (honestly was looking her before I read this some time ago), but she doesn’t fit for Bree.

Bree serves as reminder to Elena (and the audience) that Damon and Stefan never age while she does. Just had picture a character you’d think is Damon’s mother since it mentions in the casting slide that Damon and Bree’s romance ended 30 years. IRL 30 years ago, Gina Torres would have been 10 years old.

My guess is they’ll probably make her in her older 40’s and not GIna’s real age even though she looks younger than her actual age already lol.

Oh forgot, witches don’t age. That’s how come Jasmine Guy, age 47, is playing a teenager’s grandmother. So if Bree is a witch, although not a “true” witch like Emily, Grams and Bonnie, she ages at the slower rate.

Still, having a significantly older woman would hammer home the point to Elena about another pitfalls to dating a vampire beyond the bloodsucking. But like Gina Torres enough to over look it.

Jasmine Guy also looks older than her age imo (though she doesn’t look old enough to have a teenage granddaughter lol).

Grams seems like a character that might get killed-off and bet it’s sooner versus later.
