The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesWilliam Keck over at TV Guide Magazine has some more insight into Grams (Bonnie’s grandmother), the role Jasmine Guy is playing on Vampire Diaries (spoilers):

“It’s a timeless role,” explains series executive producer Kevin Williamson. “She looks so young because she’s a witch! She’s a college professor at the local university who teaches the occult. Bonnie starts to think she may be a witch, and it turns out they have a lineage of witches in their family dating back to Salem. Bonnie thinks it’s all crazy until she starts doing things like lighting fires.”

Very interesting.

Also from PaleyFest:

Per the CW, Kevin Williamson will be dropping by the Apple store in Santa Monica tonight to discuss Vampire Diaries: Apple Store Santa Monica, 1248 Third Street Promenade, Tuesday, September 15, 6 p.m.

Well, there’s your reason why they casted Jasmine Guy even though she seems a little young to be casted as a grandmother. Sounds reasonable enough.

Bonnie can light things on fire? Awesome. I’m glad they are giving more active magical powers. Makes her less of a damsel-in-distress as she was book wise. This is definitely one of the more positive changes. :)

Its great that the TV show is expanding on the characters backgrounds and families more.

Man, I wished I lived in Cali. *East Coast Girl*

Ah okay that explains a lot. I should have known better than to question my faith in KW!

I just hope this doesn’t become Charmed 2.0

This Jasmine Guy news (and the accompanying spoiler text) excites me to no end. This is a very promising development for Bonnie’s storyline, etc. Fun fun fun.

What about Meredith?! Any news on that?

So, Bonnie is a witch…and she is lighting fires with her mind…they borrowing some idea’s from The Secret Circle :P

Woot woot, Jasmine Guy! Loved her as Roxy, the sarcastic and tough-loving Grim Reaper on Dead Like Me. Bonnie and her Grams gifts sound extremely awesome!

I don’t miss Meredith at all. Granted, I only read the first book, but I thought she was pointless. If they add her I hope they give her a purpose.

Meredith becomes important later on. There’s a reason so many fans feel she should be in the series. ;)

Lol Meredith needs to be there so we can have some “that’s what she said” style jokes, and so Elena can have someone as strong as she is to lean on…who isn’t a love interest.

I am very excited to have Jasmine Guy on the show. Someone I’ve heard of, from a show I actually watched! Woot! (Sorry, rest of the cast. I’ll watch you in the future.) I’m a little wary of the pyrokinesis, but I guess that’s more concrete than having a dead town founder speak through you.

Bonnie or Faye, from the Secret Circle?
