More Interviews: Ian Somerhalder, Candice Accola & Joseph Morgan Ready for O Come, All Ye Faithful (EP409) tonight? Everyone has opinions on the latest turn of events in the Damon and Elena relationship and TV Guide Magazine caught up with Ian Somerhalder to discuss what the sire bond means to the couple’s fledgling romance and the steps they’ll each take to ensure what Elena is experiencing is the real deal:

TV Guide Magazine: Will it be good for the show if Elena and Damon stay together for a while?
Somerhalder: I think it’s good for the story: If Elena is with Damon, this sire bond is always an issue; plus, his brother’s really angry. So until both of them know if it’s true love, they’ve decided they’re not going to sleep together again. There will be more romance and less sex. Damon wants to do the right thing, but losing Elena is not an option. It’s a tough predicament for him.

Well the first part that is upsetting. I get it… but yeah. I’m thrilled that they are focusing on the romance. But skipping the Sex is like enjoying the cake but scrapping off the icing. Heaven forbid I’m ever in this situation, but if I had to be honest, I rather my wife tell me that she slept with another guy then nurtured a relationship and fell in love with one. I can get past the first, I’d be devastated by the second. Physical intimacy is dwarfed by emotional intimacy; so if they are going to indulge in the latter, why skip the former? Which hurts more to accept if they are wrong and the Sire Bond really is influencing her emotions?

Maybe it is because I’m a guy, we tend to put less weight on the physical stuff.

Nope I totally agree with you and I’m a woman. I mean they’ve already been there. I’m rather disappointed they’re back tracking on that too. The romance is fine but to completely say no sex is unrealistic at this point. Now Ian’s statement does say “less sex” so that could mean there will still be some just not like rabbits going at it. Bummer. Haha. As for the emotional relationship it was already there before she turned it’s just out in the open now for both of them. I’d like to see just how long they’re going to last without sleeping together given the amount of electricity between them. Keeping yourself under control when you haven’t been with someone is one thing but it’s much harder when you know what you’re missing.

I agree with you on every point. To be honest, I’d rather society as a whole start to put less weight on the physical stuff but that’s a different beast.

I think Damon figures if this all blows up in his face he doesn’t want to waste this opportunity to show her how much he loves her, rather than have her “wake up” from the “spell” and wonder of he just wanted to bone her. It’s sweet and I’m very much looking forward to seeing Damon’s likely old-fashioned idea of romance.

Why is it that when a couple is having problems the first dumb ass idea they have is to quit having sex? I say have sex until you’ve worked the problems out and if it’s a negative outcome quit, otherwise it is business as usual.

Because the midseason finale usually has something bad happen. I have a sense of foreboding as well but also excitement.

IIDK either. Sex is a form of intimacy not just physical but emotional. If you sever that you’re limiting yourself. It would be different if they didn’t already know each other so well but they do. They’ve built that trust up and both know they’re not going to abuse it so I don’t get the big deal.

I agree with you 100 percent. It is much more of an issue when you have a person emotionally than when you have them physically. However, it is such a tragedy that sex is the first thing to go when a problems rears it’s head. How incredibly ancient is that.

Sex is the quintessential bond between two people in love or on their way to falling in love . So now there is doubt that she is really in love, so the first thing that goes is the sex! To me that is pushing the other person away.

They might as well just be platonic friends like they were in the previous seasons. I hope Vamplena is smarter than that. Couples don’t let something as important as making love go while trying to figure out their problems. That would be so wrong for them.

This is an episode that I wil probably have the chills and shake like the entire episode. Truthfully, I have done that a lot this season. I’m nervous!!
