The Vampire Diaries TV Series: New Nina & Candice interviews + Michael's Bello Mag photo shootFancast caught up with Nina Dobrev to discuss Elena, Katherine, and what motivations are behind those identical faces, particularly when it comes to the Salvatore brothers.

Who loves Stefan more: Elena or Katherine? Why?
I’d have to say that their loves come from two very different places. Elena loves Stefan (Paul Wesley) because she feels a deep connection with him that surpasses all the common emotions of high school life. Katherine loves Stefan because her history with him ties back further than most mortals could ever understand. And its like a game of cat and mouse. He’s playing hard to get. It’s exciting for her.

MTV Hollywood Crush has more from their interview with Candice Accola, who talks about Caroline’s connection to Matt and whether we’ll be seeing the return of Tyler any time soon:

“Yes. I mean, there is no way that that storyline is done,” she said. “When and how he’ll come back and his intention of why he comes back, I’ll have no idea what that’ll be.”

While she may not know how Tyler makes his return, she’s pretty confident it will be (in true “TVD” form) epic.

“The writers are gonna have an awesome storyline for that and I’m really excited to see what it is.”

And if you’re following Michael Trevino on Twitter (and why wouldn’t you be?), you know he tweeted some behind the scenes pics from his photo shoot for Bello Mag yesterday – and he looked sharp. You can check out some of the photos on his Plixi and even more at Oh La La. Michael says we’ll see more photos next week. And did we mention he’ll be on the cover of the next Bello? Nice!

And, finally, thanks to Vampire Diaries’ Director of Photography Paul Sommers for confirming that @QuestionAnders is indeed the one and only David Anders, a.k.a. the ever-charming Uncle Daddy John Gilbert. Give him a follow! Mr. Sommers would also like you to know that he is still not Paul Wesley, who remains Twitter-less.

Delena fans are probably hating the Nina article. It’s always interesting to hear the actors’ opinions on the show.

  • Charlie

@LovinLife yeah…the damon and elena forum is not an optimistic place right now haha

  • Paloma

Loved Candice Interview but I can’t understand Nina’s. I know that the actors must be asked to say what the writers want them to say but she keeps saying different thing in every single interview. I know, I know “I am a delena fan and I don’t like this interview because she isn’t for Damon and elena” but that’s not it, the reason why I don’t like this interview is because I think that the actors can’t say what they actually beleive and they are asked to say, and if that is the fact we all know which Julie plec’s oppinion is and I have my doubts about Kevin’s oppinion because it’s never very clear but I can’t stand that they send their actors to say what they don’t want to say in an interview. I don’t want to offend anyone with my oppinion but I wanted to express my thoughts.

Nina sounds like she does in every interview, which is all Stefan and Elena and their epic high school love story, jump in the bed immediately with the new guy (Stefan), and oh…. now I am connected to him for life, and now Stefan lets talk about it. She talks about Damon like he just blew into town. I think Nina is still stuck in the first part of Season one. (eyes crossed) and then (eye roll). My frustration has crept back in…. (go away frustration so I can enjoy the show). I get it… Katherine and Nina are in love with Stefan…..

Question to writers: What happened to the triangle between Damon, Elena and Stefan that the show was promoted on? and why are these three no longer together promoting the show? Also, this was the Year of the Kat, where is Nina? She has not been at any meet and great sessions with the fans, nor, as of yet, has she signed on to be at any of the conventions. Are Ian, Nina and Paul going to be doing any promotional tours together this summer? Anybody know?

As for Candace’s interview, I hope things work out between Caroline and Matty Blue Eyes. I love them together. I don’t want her with Tyler. Apparently Tyler will be back so their triangle will move forward and continue on. I love Caroline but she needs to stay away from the werewolf. If Tyler returns, will Jules be with him? If so, Damon please rip her heart out…. then I can feel fulfilled. That damn she wolf tried to kill Damon, but ended Rose’s life instead. I am not a fan of the pesky werewolf.

Has this show replaced the three main characters of Damon, Elena and Stefan with Caroline, Matt, and Tyler as the love triangle?

There are 6 more episodes before this season ends. A lot can happen…. and I am along for the ride. Babysteps….. babysteps….. that is what Kevin said.

  • Maha

I agree with you Georgia_peach!! What happened to the love triangle ?? Being Delena or Stelena fan is not the point , we all love the three of them the way the show had begun with the two hot vampires and the human girl cut between them!! Now evry emotion is only for Stefen like said “it will be always Stefen!”

  • Paloma

Hi Georgia, I am repeating to myself “babysteps, babysteps” since the begginning of the season and we have got one babystep. But well, I am tired of talking about this because it makes me sad. Question: Do you have a twitter account?

  • Anonymous

    No twitter account…

Sorry If anyone have a translater I´m happy ; )

Elena has only refuted Damon’s attempts. Elena has high morals and she’s loyal, so I really believe Elena would never cheat. She’s also not going to be the one to end things. She loves Stefan. And, since when has it been a love triangle. She met Stefan first and started dating him. Damon likes her. That’s it. It has never been a love triangle. I’m sick of this shipping crap. I am team Elena, and right now Elena wants Stefan. At this point though, I want Damon and Elena together so i don’t have to listen to all this whining. Let me remind you: This is a tv show, with writers. You can’t control it.
Also, do you want Delena because you think Elena likes Damon or you just want Damon to get the girl he wants?

  • Yulsa

I’ve gone from loving this show obsessively and living in anticipation for every Thursday to just recording it on DVR and watching later. I’m afraid at this rate the “later” will stop being important soon.

This isn’t really just a case of Delena. It’s more because I don’t think the show knows where its going. Even the promos have pieces that don’t end up in the episodes.

I actually didn’t read the books before the show, so I had no vested interest. And I liked Stefan at the beginning and took the show at face value. But then in second half of last season the promos, the teasers, the interviews AND THE SHOW ITSELF started selling me on Damon/Elena. If not on eternal love, then at least on MEANINGFUL INTERACTION.

So slowly I switched teams. Because the show made it seam like I was supposed to. Or at least like there were teams, cause there was more going on there than just Stefan + Elena = Epic forever. It was all talk about “love triangle” and what not.

And honestly, this season made me feel like a fool. As if the writers completely retracted and now looking at me and saying that all that stuff they have been building up on and promoting never actually was. And these interviews aren’t helping. What happened to all the previous “Elena can’t help the connection” type of talk?

Seriously, I don’t like being made a fool of. If you never intended to have a Delena fan base, why promote it? I might have watched anyways, and wouldn’t have had unrealistic expectations. I didn’t have any until half way last year…

As much as VD would like to pretend to be a basic genre sci/fi show, it’s core appeal is that it’s a love story. It’s airing on CW for crying out loud and it’s major demographic is women of all ages. And what do we get this whole season? A guy that was a well rounded/layered character last season acting stupid this time around and apparently not learning anything, screwing random annoying wooden characters and killing Elena’s brother… The core love story consisting of two most boring people on TV with no passion what so ever… A meaningless werewolves storyline that no one cares about and that leads nowhere… (Seriously show? all that buildup to Tyler driving away? wow…. please tell me you are kidding… ) A moonstone that is meant to lift the curse that originals care about when it has no effect on them (if it did, why not just fry Elijah in the sun? cause originals are indestructible! they don’t care about the sun! 16 episodes into the season and the curse still makes zero sense).

I loved this show last year because characters were smart and acted like I thought people would in reality. This year they all drank stupid elixir. Contrived plots (Damon standing next to Stefan, but not telling him that he’s off to Richmond to save Elena. Elena reading one sentence, but not the one below it. Evil vampire with super-strength chasing me around the house, but instead of jumping out the window (or door) into the day, I’ll lock myself in a little room and this propped table against the door will keep her out. Should I go on?)

And where is the love? Buildup for Tyler — and he drives away. No real buildup to Bonnie/Jeremy and we are supposed to care… Stefan/Elena brooding at each other… Damon screwing and chewing on people for “distraction”… I’m a romantic soul… I think we’re missing something here.

Dear show. You are the first show I’ve been addicted to in my life. I made my friends, brother and husband watch it. But I’m loosing interest. Cause you are becoming disjointed and generic. Everything I loved about you is falling away. Your writers keep changing where you’re going. Your actors keep changing where they’re going. At this rate your fans gonna stop caring…

A love triangle between Damon, Elena and Stefan is what the show was promoted as last year. It was set up from the beginning to be a “shippers” war. Ian, Nina and Paul traveled internationally and domestically and promoted the show as a triangle. Nina referred to Ian and Paul as “her boys”. Having Elena jump into Stefan’s bed in early Season One without knowing anything about him, kinda ruined the premise for a triangle. Also, Elena had just recently ended her relationship with Matt Donovan when she jumped into Stefan’s bed. It would have been nice to have Damon and Stefan on even ground while trying to win Elena’s affection. Damon/Elena fans would just like Damon to have a chance too and for Stefan to actually have some competition. At least that would make Stefan more interesting. Oh and by the way, as a Damon fan, I do not need to be reminded it is a TV show with writers that control the stories. I get it! I also think it is way too early to give up on this show. I am a Damon fan long before I am a Damon/Elena fan, although I am extremely disappointed in the turn of events. However, there are a huge amount of Damon/Elena fans out there that are grumbling right now. The premise of the show was about a human girl torn between two vampire bothers. Showing Elena hugging Damon in a still or promo is not working anymore for them. From what I am reading a lot of the Damon/Elena fans are throwing in the towel and leaving the show. That is a shame because this is only season 2. Not every episode has to be about Stefan/Elena or Damon/Elena as a couple. There is so much more going on. Of course this is coming from someone that fixates on Damon and pretty much only Damon, but I do like Alaric, Caroline and the rest of the cast too. I just hope the Damon/Elena fans do not abandon the show and are in it for the long haul…… like I am…

Oh Dear Yulsa, are you really that dissatisfied?

I still make sure I am in front of the TV every Thursday and I record every episode too.

  • Yulsa

I still record it… but I’m afraid I’m loosing interest. I used to make sure kids are in bed and all doors locked and I’m in front of the tv at 8pm sharp. Now I DVR it and watch when everything else is done… the urgency is gone.

    Do you mean me?

    Georgia_Peach
Sometimes I have a hard time to understand some of the english words. If you mean me and the word Quot I`m guilty. I liked what you wrote.:)

  • Lynn

I am so over Stefan/Elena. I used to like them last season but I’m bored with their relationship. Moreover, how does Nina think that something won’t happen between Damon and Elena? The books & the show are based on a love triangle between Damon/Elena/Stefan. She has to eventually reciprocate her feelings for him. If Delena does not happen then the show will lose even more viewers than they have already.
This may be hard to believe but there are more DELENA fans than there are Stelena. Not that I dislike Stefan because I absolutely love him but I just want Damon/Elena to happen. I know it won’t be right away, but when actors/actresses say that things won’t happen on the show that the audience want to see, then people start to lose faith in the show & it’s just a turn off.
I ♥ Nina but I think she’s wrong when she said that Elena won’t have feelings for Damon.

  • Lynn

I agree a lot can happen and I really hope it does. Especially between Damon/Elena. I know it’s baby steps but I feel like every time we take a step towards Delena in the next episode we take like 100 steps back. It’s so frustrating.

    Hi Lone,
Yes, I did mean you. It looked like you copied my comment, but was cut off. I thought maybe there was a computer glitch of some kind and I wanted to be sure to respond back to you. Anyhow, I am glad you liked what I wrote and appreciate it. :)

  • 4Elena

Elena knew Stefan. She knew he was a vampire! Are you kidding me? If you can willingly love a vampire, beg for him not to leave, then that means you know him. She didn’t just jump into bed with him. Why do you hate Stefan? Why can’t you like both brothers. If Elena got with Damon while she was with Stefan, that would mean she is a cheating liar just like Katherine. She broke up with Matt right after the car accident in May. The beginning of Season 1 is in September. That’s 4 months of time between relationships. Do you even watch this show? That’s right you are a feverish Damon lover. For you, it’s the Damon show. Team Elena is Team Stefan!!!!!

  • I don’t watch TVD for romance

Finally, someone’s whose not an obsessive Damon or Delena fan.
I have never read TVD books and didn’t start watching the tv series b/c of the Elena-Stefan-Damon love triangle, so I really don’t care about all that. I definitely don’t want to watch some angsty teenage soapie where the main characters can’t make up their mind about who they love and keep on swapping partners – thankfully that’s NOT what TVD is about & hopefully the writers don’t listen to all these obsessive fans.

(Btw, I am a Damon fan but Elena & Stefan belong together.)

  • Anonymous

    *massive eye roll*

    1. I don’t hate Stefan.

    2. Elena did NOT know enough about Stefan before jumping into his bed. He withholds information on an ongoing basis. Before having sex with her it would have been nice if he had told her – examples: 1. He did not tell Elena she was Katherine’s identical “twin”, who was his lost love and maker. 2. He did not tell Elena he was the one that pulled her out of the submerged car in the accident that killed her parents. 3. He did not tell Elena that he then proceeded to stalk her to be sure she was not Katherine. 4. He did not tell Elena she was adopted. 5. He did not tell Elena that he killed her ancestor (Johnathan Gilbert had on the ring or Elena would have never been born), or that he pretty much killed and munched his way through most of the founding families and the rest of Mystic Falls. 6. He did not tell Elena he was the one that transitioned Damon into a Vampire and killed his own father.

These are pretty major facts that Elena should have known before jumping into his bed and having sex, yet you say she knew Stefan completely. Really?

All this is actually “spilt milk” anyway because the damage to the triangle has already been done. There isn’t one, which means what they promoted all last year does NOT exist. The direct line is between Stefan and Elena with Damon on the outside. However, the show offers more than just the aspect of who Elena is involved with. That is what keeps me coming back and of course Damon…. there is always Damon.
