Nina Dobrev as ElenaTVLine recently interviewed Julie Plec at the ATX Television Festival about Elena’s journey, Klaus’s fate, and more – including whether our wayward students will ever actually graduate from high school. And on Rebekah’s role next season:

“And with Rebekah, who is so vulnerable and damaged but has that tough exterior, we get to see a queen bee in action; we get to see a mean girl. As we get into the second half of their senior year, here’s Rebekah, still in Mystic Falls, heading back to school, completely ostracized from the community of people that she knows because of what she did to Elena and Matt [in the finale]. She’s completely loathed by the one guy [Matt] that she had a crush on, and also by her past love [Stefan]. What’s she going to do about that?”

They also caught up with Nina Dobrev and asked her how Elena will react next season to her big transition. In a sentence: “Yeah, I think she’s gonna freak out.”

  • From Beginningg To End

Geez I just read that TVD isn’t coming back until October, is that true?! What a long wait, here I was thinking it would be just a few more months. I guess that means I’ll have a productive start to the school year, lol.

I’m really curious how they’ll be able to make Elena and Katherine different enough but still equally cool as vampires. I think it’ll be tough.

  • ihatepeople

Things JP said in this interview that have me scratching my head at her point of view:

    1) How Elena will fall in or out of love as a vampire…Wait what? She’s already in her “epic love” with Stef. That’s not going to change no matter what she teases. It’s been proven over and over.

    2) Matt Donovan was given his “due”…Wait what again? The boy literally has nothing but the clothes on his back, a crappy car, a dead end job, no family, no money and not even a girlfriend. Instead he gets to be the token human that his ex’s use to cry on his shoulder.

    3) Rebekah gets to be the mean girl. She already was. With everyone hating her she’s more likely to be the outcast who gets bullied.

    4) They planned on killing Klaus but changed their mind and reworked the story because his character was so likeable. Ah she must mean like how they reworked OTHER storylines because people got pissed.

    5) They were going to kill off the rest of the originals but when characters have so much story left to tell it doesn’t do them justice to be killed off. Um it didn’t stop them from killing off Ric. They could’ve done something with his character.

    Scratching head repeatedly.

  • ihatepeople

Well if your human personality is accentuated as a vampire Elena is likely to be even more moralistic, stubborn, opinionated and self sacrificing. She’ll be a protector of her friends and fight for what is “right”. Katherine will always be morally twisted, vivacious and selfish which is what makes her fun. If they stick to their personalities they will be different types of vamps and most likely at odds with each other. That would be fun to watch.

  • Lexa

joining in head scratching, this is same old same old they realized that they did some oops moments at the end of the season when a lot of fans voiced there unhappiness and now it is on to damage control to keep people tuning in so a lot of statements are made that dont make sense and teaser voiced to keep the fans tuning in, as long as we fans know this and approach S4 with that in mind we wont be so disappointed and migth find things to like.

JP’s interview sounds like the things that pissed me off about Season 3 will still be around pissing me off in Season 4.

The thing about Elena ‘falling in and out of love’ just made me cringe. If there is one thing I want from Season 4 it is a break from the love triangle crap. Doesn’t have to be forever, just like half a season or something. Just put Elena with Stefan and let them goo up the screen playing out all JP’s Stelena fantasies. Just leave Damon out of it. Get him something or someone else to occupy his time. The writers killed his best friend, destroyed his relationship with his brother and broke his heart and now they just need to leave him the hell alone and get him someone new for companionship.

The part about Bonnie and Matt getting their due was just hilarious. I mean, every single professional and amateur commentator, reviewer etc. I have read complains ALL THE TIME about how underused Bonnie is and how she is just used as a plot device. And JP is happily going on about how Bonnie got her moment in the sun.

I am totally over Klaus and I wish he had died at the end of S3. His storyline is so utterly and completely chewed over that you need a microscope to find the last particles of meat on that bone.

Really hoping for a good new villain in Mystic Falls for S4. Not just the lameass Founder’s Council either, but a proper Big Bad.

But above all I am thinking I want JP to stop saying that this is going to be like starting over again. It gives me nightmares of JP desperately trying to reboot Stelena with a Season One replay only Elena and Stefan’s roles are switched.

  • Sonia

For the love of God, writers, JP, pleaase free Damon from the triangle of hell. Please let Elena stop looking over theloveofherlifes shoulder at other men. She chose the guy, now she gets to be miserable or happy with him. Damon needs to have some fun. Can he please forget all about Elena and hang out with Rebekah, make friends with Meredith, do things with the council again? Carol and Liz can work with him to do damage control in the town. Maybe he can meet another drinking buddy. Anything but Elena. I don’t even want them to share scenes anymore.

  • ihatepeople

That’s the part that annoys me though. They obviously think we’ll be easily lead back into the same old traps. I mean they’ve told us and showed us before what the result will always be so it makes me cringe when they tease about rehashing things. Let it go already and come up with something new that will make us want to watch.

  • Georgia_Peach

No! No! No! No!  Did I mention NO!  There is no way I want Klaus to be killed off.  There is still way too much story to tell where he and his family are concerned.

Joseph is way too good of an actor to just let go. I’m surprised TVD was able to get him.

I mean look at him…he so adorable.

  • ihatepeople

Yeah Bonnie didn’t exactly get her “due” either unless she was due to be used solely to bail everyone out of trouble with magic at her own expense. If that’s what she meant then sure. Caroline is probably one of the few out of the ones she mentioned that actually did ok.

I think one of these spoilers said that the big bad will be different than what you think next season. That could mean there really isn’t a supernatural threat but a threat of the humans purging them as in the council taking action against the vamps.

If they devle into Klaus’ wolf side of the family they could make something happen with his story.

You can pretty much can expect what you’ve said abou Elena and Stefan switching roles from season 1. That’s basically what she said about resetting things and seeing Elena go thru the same feelings of trying to keep her secret concealed, blood lust under control, etc…Somehow this is suppose to make thing fresh but isn’t it just recycling? And the thing about Elena falling in or out of love is absurd. Despite what Stefan did to her during Season3 she told us she never fell out of love with him. I don’t see that happening in the series. Besides he respected her “choice” so she’ll just be more gaga over him. Sure they might argue and she might tease Damon for the umpteenth time but that will be just to prove that nothing will break her and Stef apart. In another interview JP was asked why no one ever tells Damon I love you. She said they didn’t notice that but basically it would be a long time before he heard those words so why bother even teasing anything else? Damon needs to focus on the council issues. I’m sure he’ll help Elena when she needs him because that’s what he does but I don’t want him to keep getting drawn into her web just so he can be crushed repeatedly. If he is going to be eternally alone let him have some hot fun. We know he’s earned it.

Hahaha GP, I know you love Klaus. If the writers can come up with an interesting NEW storyline for him, then it would be okay.

Otherwise, Klaus can be retired and express delivered to your doorstep :)

  • VAMPLOVER1973

LOL- can you ship him to mine instead???????? I love Klaus and personally think the writers would be FOOLISH to kill him off….the ONLY reason I’m still watching is for Damon & Klaus (Ian & Joseph). If they weren’t in it, I’m sorry, but I don’t think that I would be this invested in this show…sad, but true:(

I do agree with you regarding the “love triangle that wasn’t”. I don’t think the writers should “tease it” because I’m pretty sure that Delena is just a figment of the fan base’s imagination. They’ve made it abundantly clear that the “epic” love story of TVD is the Stefan/Elena relationship…so be it. Personally, I really don’t care anymore, and haven’t since Dangerous Liaisons. The only thing I ask is that the writers find it in their hearts to quit beating Damon up (emotionally & physically) and let him be what he is: a sexy, seductive, practical VAMPIRE!

As for Klaus, can’t wait to see MORE of him. Remember, he’s 1000 years old. That’s a lot of history the writers can draw from. Besides, I’ve found that the episodes that have no Klaus (Joseph) in them aren’t as good as the one’s that do. I’m ok with him gone for one episode, but when it’s two in a row???NO! NO! NO!

If I have to put up with the Stefan/Elena “epic” love story (that I really don’t think is all that “epic” considering Stefan is the reason Elena’s dead), then I deserve me some hot, sexy Damon scenes and I also deserve to be able to appreciate Klaus’s dimples on a regular basis….and that look he gets before he goes all bad ass….yep, I think if your not a Stelena fan, then the writers need to give the other side something they want…and for me, that’s Klaus & Damon;)

BTW- the below is just one of the reason’s I think Joseph is so adorable….look at him flashing those dimples from Monte Carlo;)

  • VAMPLOVER1973

So, let me get this straight…..Everyone is going to blame Rebekah for standing in the middle of the road, and no one is going to blame Stefan (with the exception of Damon) for leaving a Elena trapped in a seat belt at the bottom of the lake????? Geez. Only in the world of TVD;)

  • VAMPLOVER1973

I posted a pic of Joseph from Monte Carlo below….now it’s only fair that I add one of Ian….he’s smoldering all the way from the Philippines;)  Gotta love those blue, blue eyes;)

  • ihatepeople

I’m still going to say Jeremy will blame Stefan but probably just he and Damon will feel that way.

  • ihatepeople

Obviously we won’t know what happens in Season 4 for sure until the season actually starts. However, when they start throwing out spoilers saying Elena’s behavior will be reminiscent of Stefan’s in season 1 it doesn’t sound fresh to me like they’re insinuating. It just sounds redundant. I’d like to see something new and exciting where I’m actually surprised. That goes for all the characters. It’s like when they used the body switching thing like 3 times. By the 3rd time it was underwhelming. If they’re saying this is to be a season of new beginnings then don’t recycle behavior or rehash storylines. I’m hoping to be surprised.

  • ihatepeople

“If I have to put up with the Stefan/Elena “epic” love story then I deserve me some hot, sexy Damon scenes”…AMEN GP! Give us non-SE fans something to work with instead having to tolerate the depressing scenes where Damon loses his only friend, gets his heart ripped out and he is beaten to a pulp. I love the vampire genre but I started watching the show because of Ian and I hate seeing my favorite guy abused constantly. No one that hot should be that tortured. LOL!

  • ihatepeople

    Sorry I meant AMEN Vamplover!

  • Georgia_Peach

I would sign for that package in a heartbeat… ;)

  • Iansfan

Wow, vamplover, the first thought that came to my mind looking at that picture of Ian was that probably god is a woman and she was totaly in love when she created Ian… ;)
Aren´t his eyes otherworldly pretty? *long sigh*

  • Lexa

Well just read that JP says the 4 main characters will be leaving MF this year , now I am trying to figure out what 4, I can only come up with 3 main {Damon Elena & Stefan} or 5 main { Elena,Caroline, Tyler,Matt & Bonnie} now I know she is on a PR blitz to get and keep everybody interested but all these inconsistencys, it can give one gray hair.

  • ihatepeople

I guess her definition of “main characters” is different then ours. LOL. Yeah it’s frustrating. This is not meant as a derogatory comment about Geminis but their symbol is the twins. Since JP is a Gemini maybe her answers depend on which twin is being interviewed. Haha. :)

  • Lexa

LOL which twin is being interviewed that would explain S3 and the roller coaster of a sesaon it was.
this is in reply to ihatepeople sorry have not figured out how to reply on here

  • ihatepeople

LOL. My reply button only works from my phone not any of my computers.

  • A_softsong

I wish Elena could be one of the ones leaving.  Love Nina, hate Elena.

I agree and so did Paul and Ian at the Crimson Convention. Paul said he had a tough time with Stefan saving Matt and leaving Elena in the truck. Ian asked him, “so if Torrey said save my friend first what would you do?” Paul, ” I’d say hell no, get over here.” That’s not an exact quote, but close.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/RGT6POGHLCP3CGQXU3WV32XSXQ Debby

I agree with Nina and I’ll pick team Defan. She loves both of them and they love her. They are strong together as a unit, if one of them is gone they would be weaker. She already told them she had not chosen, because she couldn’t lose one of them. She had already lost too many loved ones. I mean there’s witches, werewolves, vampires, hybrids, hunters, people talking to ghosts, so the three of them together big deal.

Besides all that she holds the two of them together mentally and as a family. She’s been the catalyst to the changes in both of them. She makes them better and they do the same for her. The three characters compliment and complete each other. I can’t see any of them with anyone else.

Anyway just my opinion, but, then again I am a big Laurell K. Hamilton fan.
