Paul Wesley is set to star opposite Nina Dobrev in CW’s drama pilot “Vampire Diaries.”
Based on the Alloy novels, WBTV’s “Vampire” centers on Elena (Dobrev), a tragic heroine who is the object of passion for two vampire brothers, Stefan (Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder).
Stefan is described as “gloriously, amazingly, epically beautiful young man” who is actually a 200-year-old vampire who has a strong connection with Elena.
Wesley’s series credits include arcs on “24,” “Everwood,” “Army Wives” and “American Dreams.”
That appears to be everyone vital. We’re just left with the two cameo roles of Brooke and Darren, and the role of the mysterious ‘Pete’.

Wow, he is… not gloriously, amazingly, OR epically beautiful. But then again, given the casting decisions thus far, I wasn’t expecting much. Incanto(Quote)

THANK YOU!!! My hands are officially throw in the air. I won’t watch this show based on the casting decision alone..don’t get me started on the script.
They should throw everything out, start over again including ALL of the casting excluding Ian (as Damon, he is the only cast member so far that makes any sense).
Yeah..this is not the vision I had for the fictional vampire I have loved since I was 13 years old. lisa(Quote)

I’m actually 100% behind the casting of the Salvatore, er, Whitmore brothers. I have serious doubts about the script’s suckiness and that Kevin Williamson isn’t even *trying* to stay true to LJ Smith’s phenomenal book series, but I will give the pilot a chance and see if the actors can at least do the story justice. sarah_darling(Quote)

Sigh – butcher the series why don’t you. You’re not gonna have any of the original fans watch this show if you change everything about it. I was excited for this because I’ve loved LJ smith books for 15 + years. But you’re killing it. Scrap the idea that it’s based on the books already since you’ve changed so much of it. This show is going to suck. Aurora(Quote)

I was excited about this show, even with the changes. But, my excitement has greatly diminished with the casting of Stefan and Bonnie. ann(Quote)

Oh sweet mother, NO. How could the casting director misfire so badly on one of the two lead vampires? The guys with all the focus on them? The “supposed” hotties who’ll naturally be compared with Robert Pattison and Taylor Lautner? Geez, haven’t we seen enough of Paul on the WB/CW network already? Everwood, Smallville… He’s developed the “Michael Cassidy Syndrome,” where someone at the network thinks it’s a good idea to keep recasting him.
Move on, CW, move on. Paul does NOT fit the description of “amazingly, epically” beautiful…not by a long shot. I could get on imdb.com or flick on ABC Family and quickly name you five actors I’d rather see in this role. For me, and no doubt thousands of others, you have just ruined The Vampire Diaries series with one huge, HUGE misfire. Petar(Quote)

It’s upsetting seeing all these changes and the horrible casting (ugh especially Nina Dobrev’s!) but I’ll still give the show a chance. Lily(Quote)

Ehh…I was half in love with Ash Redfern, so the casting of Damon doesn’t bother me, but this guy as Stefan? Get real.
Unfortunately, I’m too interested in general to see how the show will turn out, so I’ll end up watching it anyways…
The casting of Bonnie, however, is unforgiveable. Jennifer(Quote)

I am sorry but the cast for this is not anywhere near what it should be. And I can honestly tell you that the changing of the names of the brothers and other vital characters is absured! I am not even going to watch the show. The people that are writting this are tearing the series apart. It won’t be right in anyway. I have loved this series since highschool and I have hoped that they would make a movie or something out of it but this is not what I had in mind. They seriously need to start over and make it the right way. Shortangel(Quote)

Honestly, he doesn’t look like Stefan, but the actor was pretty good on Wolf Lake. I’ll give the show/pilot a chance–it could be a good thing.
But honestly, I would have made Night World into a show, not Vampire Diaries. Night World has a wider variety of characters, kind of like a supernatural heroes, and the writers could have done a lot with the stories and character.
Vampires Diaries has it’s set story, there is no way the show isn’t going to be different, unless they pull a Tru Blood, which has been well done by Showtime. It would have made a better movie trilogy or miniseries. Ah, Hollywood, you butcher good books like my beloved Blood and Chocolate. Lily(Quote)
