The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesPaul Wesley talks to MTV about the inherent differences between Stefan and Damon, reveals that he originally auditioned to play Damon, and likens Stefan’s ongoing desire for human blood with that of a drug addict:

“Stefan is fully aware of hurting others and harm, and so for him he’s, like, always unhappy,” he said. “It’s almost like someone who’s dependent on some sort of drug and then being in rehab, and you’re never the same.”

And Hollywood Crush caught up with Katerina Graham, who is refreshingly candid about her portrayal of Bonnie Bennett:

Of course, Kat knew that bringing Bonnie to life would be difficult, especially because of the physical differences between her and the character in the “Vampire Diaries” books, which she reads between takes on-set. “I can see why [the books] have had such a long-term fan base, which I think I’ve slowly won over. At first they were like ‘Well, you’re supposed to be a redheaded white girl,’ so I knew I’d have to really prove Bonnie to them. They’re going to have to really see Bonnie in me because the physical characteristics are so far from where the books were.”

Actually not hard to picture how Damon would have been played by PW. Betting it’d be similar to Donnie on The O.C. or Tommy on Everwood or Lucas in Smallville or Luke in Wolf Lake.

But thought Stefan’s whole “thing” was that he was a good vampire? Guess not.

I think calling Stefan the “good” vampire is 1) a contradiction in terms, 2) downplays the complexities of the character, and 3) takes the fun out of the power struggle between Stefan and Damon. I hated the network description of the show then and I hate it when the good/evil descriptor is used now. But I understand you need a catchy soundbite, so – whatever.

Though it has to be said that this Damon hasn’t had any problems living up to the evil part. Really hoping we see some complexity, and soon – and I’m talking a bit more than staring longingly at a photo of Katherine. And that has nothing to do with Ian and everything to do with Damon as a character – Ian’s obviously having a blast, but the unpredictability of Damon is now predictable. “Oh, Damon’s going to kill some more people – okay, what else?”

    Two things:
1)If we’re asking: Is Stefan or Damon the good vampire? Do we mean good as in “good or evil?” Do we mean “good vampire” as in “good pianist” or “good stylist?” If it’s the later then Damon is the good vampire. He’s the one who embraces his nature and tries to be the best vampire he can be. Stefan is really trying to be as human as possible. We like him for that but it does make him a bad vampire.

2)Does anyone think it’s interesting that the picture in this post is the one that most makes Stefan/Paul look like a heroin addict? I mean Paul does say that Stefan is like a recovering addict.

Seeing as I wrote the post – um, I don’t think that picture makes Stefan look like “a heroin addict.” So I certainly didn’t choose it because of that.

Yeah, sorry Vee. I was a little upset when I wrote that last comment and I really don’t know what heroin addicts look like anyway :). I do think that picture makes him look tired and sad, though. I wonder what he’s sad about :(.

Oddly enough, I’ve actually spend time with heroin addicts (not as one of them mind you) and I don’t think you could be a vampire and heroin addict. Most I meet either didn’t have teeth or the teeth they did have were throughly rotten. The whole thing with vamps is the fangs and being to puncture skin of somebody’s neck. Don’t think a heroin addict could puncture the skin of a grape.

Dunno, good in the bare sense of not killing people. That’s good, right? If you define “good” as not killing people. Paul Wesley mentions in a lot of interview about wanting Stefan to kill somebody. This making see Paul Wesley in a whole new light.

Why is it the Paul posts that always go weirdly off the rails? Is it my karma?
