IMG DESC Welcome back, everybody! It’s time for the second round of the grimmest awards in The Vampire Diaries fandom, where the corpses are piled so high we need two votes to sort them out. We’ve given the regulars their chance, and by now you’ve all seen the results of last week’s poll, but this week it’s time to give the little guys their shot. (Or their stake, snatched heart, broken neck…whatever!) Who will take home a Golden Gravestone this week? The power is in your hands.

Mixed in with this week’s procession of the not-so-dearly departed, you’re going to see one big name: Mason Lockwood. Dude…I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. So much has happened on this show that I totally forgot that Mason was in Season 2, not Season 1, and I accidentally left him off the list. Grandma Lockwood hates me now, and I deserve it. Fear not, however, because this week you can vote for three (3!) of your favorite deaths. That way you can show Mason some love if you’re inclined to without having to skip any especially cool kick-offs among the little guys. There’s plenty of death to choose from, so go to town!

A Visitor's Guide to Mystic Falls: Your Favorite Authors on The Vampire DiariesJust like last week, Leave a comment on this post that makes a case for your pick and you’ll be automatically entered to win a copy of A Visitor’s Guide to Mystic Falls: Your Favorite Authors on The Vampire Diaries (co-edited by us and Leah Wilson), courtesy of Smart Pop Books. You have until Tuesday, July 5th at midnight ET to have your comment count as an entry. We’ll also only be counting ONE comment per person, but feel free to discuss away in the comments.

I give the voice for Mason Lockwood….

  • Paige

Actually, I didn’t care for Mason. I voted for Trevor by Elijah (the bitch slap of death will always be memorable), Aimee by Katherine cause it was so deliciously sudden, and I really liked the Salvatores kicking the werewolves’ asses, ripping hearts out and such.

  • http://twitter.com/Forbitten_Love Eunice & Jacqueline

i chose Jonas Martin and Maddox.
Jonas cuz i thought it was Elena… and when it turned out to be Katherine, i flipped out and thought how awesome that was :)
and Maddox because… WHO KNEW MATT (of all ppl) WOULD SHOW UP AND SHOOT DOWN A WITCH?

  • Stefi

badass Damon ripping out the already broken heart of Mason… need I say more?

  • charlotte

Decapitation by bitch-slap ! I vote trevor ! It was gory , shocking and showed that Elijah was one dangerous guy !
Mason – his torture scene was so drawn out ..you really felt for him and Damon was brutal !
Werewolves by Damon and Stefan – this fight scene was awesome and I love it when the Salvatores team up ! Flame throwers + mid air heart snatches..love it.

My definition of best is what affected me the most either because of the character or manner of death.

    1. Mason: tied up, burned with a hot poker, burned on face & forced to eat wolfsbane, & finally having your heart ripped out. Tortured & killed by a hypocrite who loved the same vamp (curse you Damon & RIP forever Taylor Kinney, le sigh) I loved Mason so much, what a waste.

    2. Aimee Bradley: in Masquerade because it’s so unexpected & shocking “paralyzed from the neck down. and dead.” this was so horrifying & established Katherine as a crazy ass vamp not to be messed with. Kat, scared of you.

    3. Luka Martine: Again the shock value got me on this one, caught on fire during witchy juju. Although I was not emotionally invested in the Martins, watching his dad watch him burn alive was heart-breaking.

    First vote Brady by Stephan:
We do not see (up till next season probably) Stephan get very angry a lot and now he was. His whole action was pure frustration. It was not the most spectacular kill but it was one that released some tension.

    Second vote Jessica by Damon:
This one is more for the whole scene, the whole emotional thing going on and than SNATCH your my dinner.

And third….but most brilliant Elijah and the werewolves at the boarding house….
He just took those hearts out like I take my groceries in the supermarket.

  • xHannahx

    1) Mason Lockwood (of course)
    2) Aimee (it was so sudden)
    3) Trevor (Elijah did it with such ease)

  • http://twitter.com/Dayna_Barter Dayna Barter

I have to go with Elijah bitch-slapping Trevor’s head clean off like it ain’t no thang, thereby garnering my first “BAMF!” of the season.  Extra style points awarded to him for casually wiping that hand off and then extending it to Elena.

  • Tiffany

Definitely Mason, but I would have voted for Rose dying in bed if that was an option too..

  • http://twitter.com/momina95 Momina Amjad

    1) Mason Lockwood: That was by far the most painful and torturous death scene of TVD. Even more than Jules’ or Jenna’s or Rose’s. As much as I love Damon and understand that “Kill or get Killed” , Damon could have just killed the poor soul without all that wolfsbane torture.

    2) Jessica by Damon and 3) Whoever that girl was by Ripper Stefan.

Well, sometimes I do forget that my Salvatores, both of them, in season 2 were actual vampires. Maybe that’s because they have oh-so-convenient day light walking rings, or maybe because they drink from blood bags happily (Stefan from Bunnies) .. but these two deaths with nothing but fangs show the true vampire sense of the show.. Jessica’s death was such a moment of struggle for Damon, the way he let her go and then attacked her after all the confessions of existential crisis. And that girl, by Stefan- that was just a moment of Joy for me. Rippah Stefan, finally!

Honorable Mention(s): All the deaths by Elijah- Trevor, Slater, Cody and crew, werewolves. They were a magnificent display of power.

  • CheckeredYcats

oh, wow, I don’t know which one to choose! A few of these were awesome death scenes!!

  • NicolaEve

1st would have too be Elijah and him slapping the head of Trevor, seriously who knew you could do that.
2nd is probably be Aimee Bradley by Katherine because it showed just what Katherine was capable of and what she would do if she didn’t get her way
3rd is definitely Jessica because Damon let her go and then went and BAM! she was have her Juices fed on by Damon. He was going through a lot so he wasn’t really in his right mind and him wanting to save Elena, protect Elena all things Elena almost made me cry : ( poor Damon

  • Ciera

I almost laughed. The majority of the deaths are heartsnatches by Elijah or death by Damon. <3 I voted for Jessica by Damon because he told her alot before dying.

  • http://twitter.com/VampireeDairies TVD FANSITE

My first choice was Aimee because the way Katherine killed her was so dramatic “Paralysed from the waist down…and dead”
My 2nd choice was Masons death because it was painful, but i loved how Damon did it he even had to give Jeremy a little scare To go away so he could carry on torturing Mason :)
And last but not least Jonas Martin’s Death Because Him hiding behind a door gave a scare to everyone then suddenly Katherine Popped out then he’s dead oh but you cant underestimate TVD… because he got up to attack Bonnie But Stefan ended it with a neck snap even though there was kind off a happy ending because Bonnie got her powers back =)

i cant believe mason is winning!! the death of trevor was awesome and aimee by katherine and jessica!! LOVE those

  • Anonymous

Jessica is my first pick, just because her death was so awful for Damon, and let us see him in his shower..YES THAT WAS GOOD.
Mason is #2, because that is the first time I saw any emotion on Damon’s face after he killed someone.
Luka is next just because it was so awesome and as usual his dad blamed everyone else, that is just what witches/warlocks do, I guess. Never take responsibility for your actions. lol

  • Anonymous

I thought Maddox was killed by Damon snapping his neck, Matt shot him and Damon finished him off.

  • Anonymous

I did the same thing and pick the ones that affected me the most.
    Jessica, Mason & Luka

  • Anonymous

Yeah, I would always vote for Rose, but she won last week, that is the one that gets me every time.

  • http://twitter.com/AbbyGraham A.G.

Good catch, I do believe you’re right. Editing now!

Well Mason, dear Mason, was a harbinger of what was to come. I’m not surprised we all forgot he was in S2, the show seemed so much clearer then! I wrote last week that Damon killing Jeremy was a signpost pointing at the show’s deep twisted-ness, but remembering Mason makes me realise that the show _developed_ into the complexity of the latter part of S2 . (And perhaps the numerous breaks didn’t help with thinking of S2 as a whole.)

I have been re-watching BSG and the Mason-Interrogation has similarities to the summary trials and executions committed by Tigh and Anders after the Exodus from New Caprica.

This is when Damon makes all the Mystic Falls kids complicit in the savagery of how he does things. Whenever I watch this scene I am always reminded at how eager Damon was to instigate a war with Mason and how desperate he seems to kill him. Again this is the complex damage of Damon – and the look on Jeremy’s face during the torture is very poignant for me. Because (and Bonnie too) he is being told and shown that there is only one way to fight this war before, I think, he is even sure there is a war to be fought.

Anyways really interesting and well handled scene, which saw the end of a really awesome character and the goodbye of a super guest actor. Sad.

  • Karen

I thought Mason’s death was #1 because you knew things were not going to end well with Damon’s questions and actions.  And Mason wasn’t helping things either with his response to Damon.
Luka’s death by fire was second because Luka wasn’t actually in the Salvatore house but there by witchiness.  But being there by witchiness was enough to make him vulnerable to the flame thrower and I think it was surprising to Damon, Luka and me.  Then Luka was only in the Martin’s apt. and there wasn’t anything his father could do to save him.
Slater’s death in his apt. was shocking because it was the first time we witnessed Elijah’s power to compel even vampires.  It was a shame that Slater wasn’t around more because he was such an interesting character and I would have liked him to be around longer.

  • http://twitter.com/JLMadridFederer Julie Rodriguez

My three picks were all by Elijah. Elijah is the ultimate badass. He gets it done. With his charm, class, manners & awesomeness, it should be an honor to meet one’s end via Elijah.  In all of them, the man was cool, calm, collected, even humorous. Slater’s was suprising via that unexpected twist of Original’s being able to compel other vampires. The man singlehandledly took on the silly, pesky werewolves at the Salvatore Residence; the one fella, Stevie, meeting an unintentionally funny end. Then there’s my personal favorite: Trevor meeting his end via The Great Slap of Death at that runned down mansion. Elijah is the man.

Luka Martin (by Damon, with a flamethrower, in either the Salvatore basement or the Martin apartment, depending on how you look at it)

Maybe I’m not gonna be the only one to say that S2 was really messy and bloody. Full with so many people that have been removed no matter the role, secondary parts or main ones. As a total shock and nice to watch was the one scene with Aimee at
the Masquerade Ball, how was executed. Maybe it looks like a simple obstacle, needed to be done. Collateral damage.I really also liked how went down the kill of Jonas. Great Katherine deed. Weird, Elena protective but cool. My final one goes to Maddox. I really liked that guy. But against Damon no one’s save on his path to protect Caroline and Tyler and mostly in his bigger picture of Elena in his mind. So, CAN’T WAIT for the next chapter of S3 events and what lies ahead. No doubt it’s going to be intense, shocking, messy and out of the blue. Just the way we all like it and love to watch it over and over again. =]

so i catch the wrath of Mason’s fists in Florida, causing him to be awakened to the curse of being a werewolf, and then find myself (Jimmy) at the end of a poll about which minor character had the best death scene, representing 1% of the overall votes.  C’mon, Jimmy died with his eyes open, and without a backstory!!  show some love!

  • http://twitter.com/__shamrock Monica S.

I was very tempted to pick all the three by Elijah: the guy is classy, period. But I wanted to consider also other characters, so the head-slap beat the heartsnatches and the compulsion, and I voted only for 1) Trevor.
    2) Luka Martin. I don’t want to be cynical, but how awesome was Damon with that flamethrower? :P
    3) Mason. In this case I’m not voting for the killer but for the killed: I liked him and I wish he didn’t die so soon.

Finally, an honorable mention to Jessica: she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. But thanks to her we saw a wonderful heartbreaking Damon’s moment. So, thank you Jessica. RIP.

  • Emma

i voted mason by damon because i feel that i was sort of dramatic and an ending to something.

  • Anonymous

I voted for Aimee and Luka because I didn’t expect it. And for Mason because I never liked him and was so glad when Damon finally killed him.

  • Anonymous

Best death was by far Jessica- not because it was shocking, but because it was oh so memorable. Damon’s emotional crisis of “to kill or not to kill” not only took Damon to a whole new dimension (who knew that he missed being human?) but it was also the best acting seen to date on TVD to date.

Second favorite-Mason’s heart getting ripped out by Damon. I honestly believe the writers were channeling Jack Bauer when writing that scene. I was never a fan of Mason’s, pretty much guessed he was working with Katherine when he oh so conveniently showed up in Mystic Falls, knew he wouldn’t just let bygones be bygones and completely agreed with Damon- it was a kill or be killed situation and Mason drew the short straw. I didn’t like the guy during the first part of the season and frankly didn’t like the werewolves at all. So, for channeling a bit of my second favorite character to ever grace the small screen and allowing my first favorite character to do the dirty work, the writers get an A+ on this one.

Third favorite death scene: Trevor & his beheading by Elijah…Let’s face it, heart snatches have become common place on TVD thanks to Damon….but beheading??? Only Elijah could do that, so props to him:)

Fourth favorite death scene: Any and all scenes that killed off some of those pesky wolves. Have I mentioned before that I absolutely hated that storyline from start to finish? Once they were all gone, except Tyler, TVD finally became The Vampire Diaries again…..Thank God!

  • vamplovinggirl

I thought Aimee’s death was so unexpected and Katherine is so bad ass…it made such a good scene. Mason’s death was epic, and Jessica’s death was so tragic, cause he aaaallllllmost let her go. Those are my top three!

  • http://twitter.com/justingeer Justin Geer

ALRIGHT!!  Jimmy here again, beyond the grave?  I just thought i would check back in and announce the 16 votes that have been tossed right in my direction for Best Death Scene in part 2 of the Golden Gravestone Awards!!  THAAAANKS!!  I did not get a proper burial in the show so i had no family or friends that were contacted after my untimely demise.  I would though, like to thank the 15 people who do remember me and were so moved to give me your vote.  If anyone else would like to commemorate my death with a vote, you can rest assured that i will display the label with pride and respect, here on the other side.  My computer time is up cause we have to share one terminal between all of us (ugh).  Now it’s “Whoever That Girl Was”s turn.  She just sits on facebook for her 8 minutes.  lame.

  • Drich61

If only you had shown us this side of you, instead of only that compelled side of you.

  • Elena Winchester

My picks were Trevor and Slater by Elijah and Luka Martin by Damon. The way Elijah beheaded Trevor makes it one of the most memorable and unique deaths in either season. I chose the other two for the same reason. Heart snatches, biting, and neck snaps are wonderful, but they are also routine in the Vampire Diaries.

  • http://twitter.com/justingeer Justin Geer

Yep, it is such a shame.  I do not normally exit a bar grabbing and downing random, unnattended and unfinished drinks.  I can only blame the power of Katherine’s spell & the effects of alcohol for my embarrassing behavior.  I wish you could have at least met my girlfriend Marla.  She would have been a dead give away that something supernatural was going on cause let us be honest; On a scale of 1 to 10, she’s at about a 4 MAYBE.  There’s no way Mason was messing with her cause she’s just not in his league.  But she does have a huge heart and a great way at looking at life.  I wish i could remember her last name. Or mine…

  • http://twitter.com/justingeer Justin Geer

Here is a picture of your favorite victim Jimmy; Just as my soul was leaving my body.  The most disappointing thing of all as a spirit is that i never got a chance to see what i looked like from behind, without the use of a mirror.  I always thought i’d be able to do that after i died; Walk around myself.  It did not work out that way for me.

  • Xxrenessmee12xx

I though Sarah`s death was important because Tyler wouldnt have been a werewolf if he didnt kill her

I vote for Warehouse Girl (Ashlyn Henson)in the finale of season 2. She got bitten by Stefan & Claus, poor girl. She has awesome screams. She should come back as a werevamp for some revenge.
