PopWrap: Kevin Williamson talks Vampire Diaries Season 3Sorry things have been a bit quiet around here – we’re taking a breather and holding off on a mountain of speculation posts and spoilery interviews until after the season finale airing in the U.K. Tuesday night. We do think it’s safe to say that the final moments of As I Lay Dying felt like a reset button – some stories came to an end and new story nuggets sent the fandom spiraling into hardcore theory mode. We’ve already heard from Julie about the big stuff that happened and now PopWrap‘s Jarett Wieselman chats with Kevin Williamson about what was right and not-quite-right in Season 2 and looks at the possibilities of Season 3, the “Year of the Originals” (and other stuff we won’t mention here…yet). There’s also a mega-cool bit of behind-the-scenes trivia on who Julie and Kevin originally approached for the role of Rose.

PopWrap: Looking back, what do you feel were the most creatively satisfying elements of season two?
Kevin: Katherine. That is a highlight for me. Watching this character, who we truly planned to never see that much, become so alive and delicious thanks to Nina, suddenly it made us reroute the entire season. Also watching all the supporting characters, who I knew were capable of so much more in the first season, get to shine this year was amazing. Especially Caroline. Turning her into a vampire … I knew Candice had it in her.

I am on the Alaric band wagon, he is so much fun to watch with Damon, no matter what it is always “what can I do to help”. Ric is my favorite male on the show after Damon.

I am SO GLAD that SMG did not get to play Rose, I loved Lauren and SMG not so much.

Nina and Caroline are at the top of my female list, they are both great, and I did not even like Caroline last year, but WOW did she come to life(so to speak) as a vampire.

Looking forward to the actors Kevin and Julie find for the originals, they have done a bang up job so far.

Yep, season 3 is going to be great, but 4 months??? That is just to long. LOL

I love the idea of a Damon and Elena blossoming relationship, but I feel the need to reassure you that it is simply temporary. Have no fear @43801d95b020366906e520d171dbb96b:disqus , Stelena will be back in action soon enough. :)

I do have to disagree with you about Stefan “always” being true to his feelings. He has struggled with this many times and although he tries to make the decisions he feels are “right”, it hasn’t always worked out that way. I am also looking forward to seeing Stefan as “the ripper” I think it will add a whole new dimension to his character and hopefully even the most hardcore Damon fan will grow to love Stefan as well.

I can tell you my choice…DAMON/Stefan, have never been a fan of Bill but have enjoyed Eric.  And of course the hot wolf. LOL But then Tyler is not someone I would throw rocks at either. :) pun intended.

I scream at the TV so often when this show is on, that am glad I live way out in the country.  My African Gray parrot even gets into the act sometimes cawing like the crow from S1..She loves this show.

Caroline was awesome this season, but Nina with the dual roles just could not be beat for me. When I can see both Kat and Elena in the same scene and I can forget it is the same actress, that is excellent acting.

Yes, I also use caps for emphasis, it is very hard to get the feelings in an email, since can’t see the face or hear how the person is speaking.  Like DAMN I LOVE THIS SHOW. lol

I am intrigued also, does me being 72 mean I can say anything I want without worrying about hurting someones feelings?  OH it is GOOD to be old and crotchety and having a ball.

Thanks from me also, I would love to get to meet Ian one day.

Ian does have beautiful blue eyes and the fact that people call him a boy at 33 makes him feel good.  I know it would make my dad feel good hes 37. lol

Hi rehabber, Unfortunately my house is so close to my neighbors I could reach out and touch there house.  I’m pretty sure they’ve heard me screaming at the TV. LOL  I have a dog that literally runs in the next room when the show starts.  I think I’ve given him bad nerves from all my screaming/yelling at the TV. LOL

Hi Jilly bean, thanks for the giving me hope about Stefan and Elena.  LOL  I know Elena has feelings for Damon…just wondering how she will act on them knowing what Stefan now faces with Klaus.  Of course when she and Damon does start getting closer if you know what I mean…  LOL I’m going to be yelling at my poor TV.  After season 2…it really took a beating.  LOL  As for Stefan, ok he has been struggling to stay away from the whole nature of a vampire is to kill thing.  I think he’s just going along with Klaus.  I’m hoping he has his thirst under control.  Though, even if he doesn’t have it under control it’s going to be one hell of an exciting ride.  I believe he 100% loves Elena and I’m hoping that’s what pulls him through.  As for Damon and Stefan fans switching…wouldn’t that be funny.

You know what? – That´s what so fantastic about fiction. Everything can happen. And I´m sure that the producers will not disappoint any teams neither Stelena nor Delena. They will balance the love triangle so that as much viewers as possible are happy.

And – I think I´ve already posted that earlier – that´s what makes it interesting. If we all knew how things will end up, it wouldn´t be as exciting.

And besides that´s not real life. At the end of the day TVD is entertainment where rules can be warped a bit (even moral rules – right?;) (Because which healthy, in reality living woman would make out with two such good looking guys at the same time? – In real life that doesn´t happen regularly and causes major stress, right?)

Hi Iansfan, They do entertain us.  As for finding two guys as hot as Stefan and Damon to make out with…trying to find one is hard enough. LOL Believe me I’ve looked. LOL  Love this show,  how lucky is Nina.  When she gets up in the morning, depending on the morning she gets to go to work and make out with two of the hottest guys on TV.  Not to mention real life with Ian. LOL

    Hello fellow vampire fans,
I have been following your conversation with interest, especially the one about the comment about “bigamy”. I am sure that the guest meant “two-timing” as well, as noirgirl pointed out. I myself have absolutely no problem with Elena having strong feelings for two men.
Firstly, there would be no show without the tension of this triangle, even with all the wonderful storylines and other actors that are happening simultaneously.
Secondly, hasn’t anyone here ever felt strongly about two different people? Does that make us bad? I don’t think it’s trashy to feel attracted to more than one person at a time – it’s pretty natural. It is how you handle yourself that  defines you (and really, Elena is seventeen, for heaven’s sake; she is very young and at that age is pretty darn easy to fall for two such gorgeous guys). At my age, it definitely would not be good as my husband would be pretty mad at me!!
I am enjoying this ride so much and welcoming all the convoluted feelings and action. I can’t wait for season three to see how the Damon and Elena relationship develops. After all, they can’t have her just give in like that, can they?
And most people on this site are very respectful, just had to say that.

    Hi Georgia Peach,
You are so lucky to have seen Ian in real life! I am from Vancouver and so unless I make it a priority to visit Atlanta, I will never get to see those eyes up close either! I honestly think he is the most handsome man on film (and I am a huge Johnny Depp fan) but he really is something else. And as you say, he has charisma as well, which puts him over the top.
One thing I don’t get though, is how the major magazines kind of miss him for their covers, and choose people like Ryan Reynolds (he is cute and all, but hardly smoldering like Ian!) What is up with that? Is it because he is not a movie star?

Pleas don’t make Damon a whimpering/following Elena around like a lost puppy dog.  Had enough of that in Season 2.  Much prefer my hottie/ badass/manwhore of Season 1 Damon.
