Totally agree on that. Stefan and Damon knew each other before all the vampire/Original/ Elena Gilbert mess. Team Salvatore!

I really don’t think it was that clever of Caroline to tell her dad about the day-walking ring. Damon and Stefan has the same ring, and he could tell someone. Please compell that son of a bitch, or let Damon rip his head off! That man played on my nerves, poor Caroline!

  • karen

What an incredibly action packed  episode.  Stefan and Klaus best friends back in the day.  Too great!  Stefan having a fling with Nic’s sister, at least when he does date he dates the gorgeous and popular gals.  LOL  The rippah is kickass tough.  Having to give up his love and  his brother and his own life is horrible.  Damon obviously appreciates it.  It’s funny Klaus and Stefan were best friends and there was a woman involved, Rebecca.  Ric and Damon are best friends and again there was a woman invloved.  Damon slepted with/turned into vampire Isobel.  The scene between Stefan and Elena was  heart breaking.  How will they ever get back to there love??

    Katherine was in Chicago.

Yes!!!!…that was totally sooooo funny!!!!….Damon will always be Damon with his lines!!!!

  • vampgirl

I really love reading how you write!!! Great feedback!
I really don’t think Damon is throwing Stefan ‘under the vampire bus’ to ‘get the girl’ as much as he is trying to show her how over the edge stefan can go and has gone. (She seems to be a little naive about all this). She was quick to point out that Damon is no saint and was killing also during that time, which was awesome of her, cause in my opinion, killing is killing. no good. I think Elena is not only going after Stefan as a ex-girlfriend, but also as a friend. I think she would do this for any friend, and her love for stefan only strengthens that.
I applaud Paul on his acting skills. I always loved in s1 & s2 the few scenes he was giving the chance to really show his acting skills (like the break up scene). But he ‘killed’ it this scene! I loved seeing him happy and smiling in the flashbacks! And let me say, I am SOOOO happy that the writers are going deeper with Stefan going to the dark side. I hate it when things are ‘fixed’ in one or two episodes. I like the momentum and suspense!

Elena found out about Lexi and Stefan through reading his diary while waiting at his apartment.

lus Stefan’s clothes change also. From white bow to black….subtle changes. But they are there.

LOVE your HEROES reference. miss that show. HRG is on all my favorite shows… heroes, the office, and now tvd <3

Yeah, I kind of zoned out during that part of the episode. Oops.

In my defence, there’s something about Elena and Stefan and journals that bores the crap out of me…

  • Anonymous

Thank goodness Katherine is back! I shouted with joy. Please don’t ever leave girl. She and Damon would make great roommates. Now that Stefan knows where Klaus has all the Originals stashed, I kept waiting for him to run over and open Elijah’s casket and yank that dagger out! Or since Kat’s been spying on them maybe she could do it. One can only dream. Guess I’ll just have to be patient till I see my Elijah! Stefan & Elena scenes broke my heart as always. Just the looks they gave each other in the closet, so sad. I want more Damon & Stefan’s scenes together. Can’t wait till Stefan comes back home so he can bond with his real brother. And loved the scenes with Tyler & Caroline which are quickly becoming my favorites.

  • Tamara

Agree 100%. Besides I think Stefan and Elena relationship won’t be the same after he is back. He will feel guilty and destroyed and won’t be able to forgive himself.

  • Anonymous

Stefan has always known where the “family” was kept, back when he killed that girl for Klaus they were in that room.  I am with you, wondering who will be our hero and bring Elijah back, I figured Stefan, but since Kat is hanging around it might be her, maybe even Rebekah.

  • Anonymous

Hi rehabber! At first I missed your comments. Was already wondering if you are ok, but happy to see that you are back. Why would Rebecca pull the dagger out of Elijah?

  • Anonymous

Yep OK here, just hot & dry.  Well Elijah is her brother and I was just thinking of people around that could do it.  If Klaus makes her mad or tries and take Stefan away again, she just might want help from Elijah.  Just trying to think of any way I can get him back.lol

  • Canderella

Hi GermanTVDfan – maybe it’s the German view on things. I am from Deutschelande, too :D

But what I also realized after thinking a bit more about the episode and my feelings regarding it, is that I am totally startled by the way they presented Elena.

At the moment it does not feel according to her character. I found her almost pitiful, which never happened before – like her or not. She used to be strong (minded), down to earth, facing things. Now she clings on to an image she has of Stefan refusing to face the facts. Even more, she let Damon dress her up! And what an awful dress it was. Fashion designers or whatever you are called – please show some style. To me she looked totally out of place when she met Stefan outside. And I feel kind of ashamed that Damon picked it. Sorry. But not according to anything I have seen so far, not to Damon’s style and taste and not to Elena’s.

They both looked like kind of loosers in this ep (sorry, no better term, maybe too strong, but have no better words available :/). Maybe this was done deliberately. Maybe not. Don’t know. But it made me sad.

Of course she is clinging to Stefan because she deeply loves him and moreover, does not want to loose another beloved person. She already lost so much. But then – she never looked so lost before. Not even after her parents died. And I did not expect this to be so significant or strong. As I said. I did not feel sad for her but I kind of diselievingly shake my head about her pitiful looks (i.e. the dress and the the expression in her face in that closet).

Does any of this make sense? I mean – did I put it in any way for people to understand?

Just watched it again.  LOL  Gloria recognized Damon when he walked in the door.  Wonder if Damon was there in the 20′s when The Ripper was there?  The scene at the club…looked like Katherine was eyeing the necklace just before Stefan picked it up.  Wonder if she knows about its magic? Love that Katherine is back…but what is she really up to?  When Damon and Elena were in Stefan’s apartment…wondered  what was in the bag/the plan….that was pretty damned sweet of Damon to buy her a dress when she and Stefan would meet for the first time.  Stefan’s rant to Elena was harsh.   He needed to say it for now…protecting her and Damon.  But, as I said in a lower comment.  All epic love stories have drama….up and downs.  Eventually Stefan and Elena will find there way back to each other. (fingers crossed…hoping) LOL

Sorry if my thoughts come so unorganised but there is another foggy moment for me. How did Damon manage to get rid of Klaus in Chicago, the witch saved his life in the bar and told Klaus to go outside (I was surprised that Klaus did what she wanted, has he ever done what anybody wanted since we met him?)
In the next scene he climbs into the car and asks Elena if everything is o.k. (btw. I´d have loved to hear that she asked him if he was o.k. as well, finally he once again risked his life, knowing that Klaus would hurt him if not kill him just to give her the chance to talk to the love of her life. If that´s anything but true love…)

  • Anonymous

I don´t think that Kat knows the magic of the necklace because she had it somewhere in season two and gave it back to Elena. She wouldn´t have done it knowing that it was magical and had anything to do with the Originals.
I understand that you would love to have Stefan and Elena back together (as much as I´m a Damon fan) but I´m afraid it´s gonna be a bumpy road. If he was just protecting her or if he really felt no wish whatsoever to be with her, his words hurt her more than everything he has ever done to others or herself and it will change her feelings and their relationship. I´m interested to find out how the writers plan the further story for the two (with Damon three) of them.

  • Anonymous

You´re right the last scene left me with a bitter aftertaste as well. If Elena can´t show him her love she should stop him from risking his life for her once and again. It´s simply not fair how she behaves. Damon deserves real love. Will we see that in season 3?

  • eve

Hi Iansfan, thanks for your reply.  I completely forgot that Katherine had her hands on the  necklace in season 2.  There goes my idea. LOL  As for Stefan, Elena and Damon it’s going to be exciting to see where they all go from here.  Although, being a Stefan/Elena as a couple fan…probably won’t be exciting for me.  LOL   Damon/Elena fans…probably will be exciting for you.  LOL

  • GermanTVDfan

Hi Canderella, I understand what you mean. The best line was that they looked like loosers, I think you nailed it with that. The whole ep appeared to me in another kind of character – oh hard to express in english what I mean. Most of the time it played in Chicago, not in MF (except Carolines’s story), so the introspective small town, the people there, the school life there and so on , everything was left behind. As if the town Chicago was a size too large for them.

  • Anonymous

Hi Iansfan- I think when Gloria set the “stake” on fire, it brought Klaus back to his senses. Klaus was already pissed when Damon confronted him. Fortunately, Damon got the hell out of the bar and into the car and out of Chicago with out picking yet another fight with Klaus……but in the future, who knows what will happen to Damon if he keeps being the bumble bee flying around Klaus’s head? I kinda think the reason Klaus hasn’t killed Damon is that he’s using it as a means of controlling Stefan- that brotherly bond and all:)

  • Anonymous

HI Eve- Damon told Elena that Chicago’s a big city and that he was around, but he wasn’t drawing attention to himself…. I’m guessing it’s that whole snatch, feed, erase thing he likes to do. The bag contained the dress Elena wore when she came face to face with Stefan, and it was sweet of Damon to buy it for her.

As to Stefan’s rant- yeah, he was cold to her. But he did have a point. Judging from his journal that Elena was reading, it took him almost 30 years to come back to himself after the bender we witnessed in this flashback episode. For a vampire, that’s nothing, for Elena, that’s half her lifetime. I find the whole thing kinda sad for Elena:(

As to what Kat’s up to….well, she’s obviously keeping an eye on Stefan & Klaus. I kinda think it’s funny that she’s been right under Klaus’s nose and he didn’t even know it….far enough away so he couldn’t sense her presence but close enough that she could keep an eye on the things that are happening….gotta love Kat:)

  • Anonymous

You’re right Anon- it was 4:45 in the morning when I was typing everything up and I was also running late for work:)….what I should have said was this:

My guess is Klaus & Rebekah (from now on, I’m calling her Bex- much easier) are obviously running from someone…a male someone, because they both referred to that person as a “he”…then in walks a male detective…..I’m guessing he’s going to be showing up in present day MF looking not a day older than he did in the 1920′s…..which would indicate Vampire. We all know that Klaus & Bex wouldn’t run from an everyday normal vampire, so it must be someone who they fear, or at least Klaus fears.

Seeing as how Mommy Original (I think they are going to call her Esther) had an affair with a werewolf, gave birth to the product of that affair (Klaus), it would seem to me that Daddy Original, considering he himself killed the pack of werewolves, had a major issue with Klaus himself…I’m pretty sure Elijah indicated that last season. That means that Daddy Original considered Klaus to be an “abomination”- that’s what Klaus called himself this episode-and that the rest of the family were forced to choose sides. Bex indicated that this episode. It’s obvious that Klaus wanted to keep his siblings close, hence the 18wheeler carrying all the caskets around. I’m guessing Daddy Original will want his wife and children back, hence the chasing of Bex & Klaus……It’s going to be really interesting to see Klaus  & Daddy Original go up against each other- it the writers go that route:)

    THE END OF THE AFFAIR

Tremendous episode! How many times will this show “surprise” us? Should that word even be in our vocabulary anymore. Perhaps we can think of some new ones. The Vampire Diaries does continue to “surprise” us. Infusing twist, turns, oh my god moments, romance, heartbreak, intrigue, pain and joy into each episode further proving its status as one of the best shows out there. This episode was no exception. It including all those things and more. The whole cast raved about how good this episode would be, I should have believed them. Season three is taking us for a joyride and it’s not stopping anytime soon. Buckle your seat belts. Ready. Set. Go!

    Ah, the 20′s

TVD once again takes us back to the past, this time Chicago in the 1920′s. Prohibition was rampant so Speakeasy’s were all the rage. The United States just came out of a world war and everyone wanted to forget. With soaring stock prices and a good economy, people just wanted to have a good time. It’s here we find Stefan, fresh from a recent “drink” walking into said Speakeasy with a definite pep-in-his-step. It’s clear that he knows everyone in the joint and everyone seems to know him. What a far cry from the usual brooding vampire we all know. He’s having a good time, feeding on anyone he wants, chatting up the local singer and compelling patrons to do his bidding. Certainly not the same old Stefan. I love the look of 20′s. Ford model T cars. The men nicely dressed in tuxedo’s. The women in their signature 20′s hairstyles(which I absolutely love) and beautiful outfits. Great jazz music being played, champagne and bootleg liquor flowing and everyone living it up. TVD did a exceptional job setting everything up, allowing the cast to shine and showcase their talents.

    Damon and Elena

When Damon’s not throwing Elena into random ponds, he is quite useful and funny. Once again Damon and Elena are in bed together. This time he’s the one slipping under the covers. Elena turns over and snuggles up to someone, perhaps through habit thinking it’s Stefan. To her surprise, it’s Damon. She quickly jumps up clutching her blanket, telling him to get out.        H-I-L-A-R-I-O-U-S! Now that Damon’s not dying, I guess Elena has her priorities right. lol  Also what Damon looks at was not his crotch area, it was the spot Elena supposedly drooled on – which was his chest.

Damon gets a call from Katherine and him and Elena head to Chicago to find Stefan. This time they at least come up with a decent plan. Damon would distract Klaus while Elena “talks” to Stefan which in her way usually ends with a needle in the back full of vervain. O Elena, you are so sweet. lol. Damon then shows Elena Stefan’s secret stash of booze which is next to his secret stash of DEAD VICTIMS NAMES. Talk about writing something down so you won’t forget it. Stefan takes that seriously. Elena’s nonchalant attitude regarding this is shocking, even for her. She is clearly in denial. Even if she is blinded by love for Stefan, she should at least been surprise by this revelation. With people dying around her left and right, I guess she’s numb to it. A list of Stefan’s victims only conjures up accusatory inquiries into Damon’s past. Wow! Can you say someone’s not seeing the light? I can.

Damon leaves her by herself in the creepy apartment and goes to find Stefan. Klaus and Stefan then arrive. Elena quickly hides in the closet/shrine-o-victims hoping that Klaus doesn’t find her. Klaus decides to show Stefan his “past” and opens the closet door. Stefan enters, looks around and finds ELENA. They both stared at each other for what seemed like a lifetime. The fear of discovery but hopefulness in Elena’s eyes. The pain and love in Stefan’s. Multitudes of emotions and unsaid words flowing through them. The scene…R-I-V-E-T-I-N-G! Stefan gives us and Elena a last scare telling Klaus he “found it” but pulls out a bottle of liquor instead. He closes the closet door and leaves with Klaus. Phew! We are then treated with a much needed commercial break to catch our breaths. That was one of the best scenes I’ve ever seen…period. That scene should be boxed and displayed in a future TVD museum. It was that good.

Damon comes back and feels bad about leaving Elena alone. They then head off to find Stefan. Damon finds him in a bar and motions to Stefan to meet him outside. They have a little confrontation against a car with Stefan asking Damon why he brought Elena. He then tells Stefan to ask Elena herself. The scene then shifts to Elena who is nicely split in the background between the brothers. Are you suggesting something TVD? A triangle maybe? If you pause that scene you can see that the three of them create a triangle. Hmm…interesting. Damon heads inside to create a distraction while Stefan and Elena “talk.” After a round of why are you here, Elena beautifully strokes Stefan’s face, hugs him and tells him to come home. Unfortunately, Elena’s hugs usually end with a vervain needle in the back which Stefan wisely avoids and takes out of her hand.
Fool me once Elena, shame on you, fool me twice Elena, I’m an idiot. I guess Stefan’s not an idiot. lol Looks like Elena is gonna have to come up with some new ways to incapacitate Stefan.

Stefan then proceeds to drive’s home his point by telling Elena he’s doesn’t want to come back home and he doesn’t want to be with her. WOW! He then walks away leaving Elena to ponder those words. Poor Elena. She genuinely loves Stefan but she couldn’t save him. She looked so hurt. So sad. Hang in there Elena.

I have to give Damon credit, the guy has some serious balls. “Distracting” Klaus when he can easily kill him, man, that takes a lot of guts. After Klaus and Damon exchange how nice it is to see each other, Klaus decides to have a little fun with Damon. Using a wooden umbrella drink holder Klaus pokes several holes into Damon “narrowly” missing his heart. Klaus gets bored after awhile and decides to get on with finishing off Damon. With a wooden chair leg he’s about to stake Damon when Gloria intervenes and saves him. Man! How many close calls has there been with this guy, geez. Someone upstairs must really like this guy. But his nine lives would eventually run out if he keeps this up.

After a boring, uneventful day in Chicago, Damon and Elena decides to head on home. As he enters the car Elena is seen holding her necklace understandably lost in a million thoughts and emotions. The same way she was holding it as she left for Chicago is the same way she held it as she returns to Mystic Falls. I’m curious where this leaves Elena now. With Stefan ending their relationship would she still hold on to hope or  move on and perhaps legitimately consider Damon. Hmm.

    Family Affair

Who-knew-Rebecca-was-not-only-Klaus’-SISTER-but-an-ORIGINAL. Wow! Did not see that coming. This revelation not only shakes up the storyline but takes it to another level. Not only that, but Elena’s necklace takes on an even more significance. It belonged to Rebecca. It’s also a magical necklace that is vital for contacting a long dead witch. Wow! Wow! Wow! TVD does it again with an unbelievable twist. With the flashbacks we see Rebecca in the past standing by Klaus’ side apparently because she made the “right” choice. She meets Stefan and she’s clearly smitten by him. Big Bad Klaus also seems to be a fan of the Rippah. I love the interaction between the three of them. Looks like they were having a really good time. I have to say I thought Damon was a badass in season one, but Stefan to me had him beat. Where as Damon just killed people, Stefan not only killed more people but toyed with them also. Making that guy drink his wife’s blood was not only gross but shocking. I don’t think Damon ever did something like that. I’m curious who would win in a fight between Rippah Stefan and Season one Damon. I’m putting my bet on Stefan.

Klaus decides to wake his sister who is not a happy camper. She affectionately greets him with a dagger in the chest. Does she have cause….ah yeah! With pleasantries exchanged Klaus ask her about the necklace. She searches frantically for it but to no avail. Oh-ho looks like Elena’s nightmare is just beginning. Klaus needs that necklace and he’s going to figure out who has it soon enough. This is not going to end well.

    My Hero

Move over Officer and a Gentlemen, here comes Tyler! Who didn’t love Tyler rescuing Caroline from her evil step mother, er, father. Okay sheriff Forbes was there too, but Tyler did the heavy lifting. Torturing your DAUGHTER is not going to win you any awards Bill Forbes. What kind of monster tortures their own daughter. I know she’s a vampire but come on. That guy has some serious issues which I hope someone addresses soon with a quick snap of the neck. What-a-creep! I’m glad Caroline’s okay though. It’s nice that she has Tyler. Someone that truly understands her and accepts her for who she is. Sorry Matt, you blew it. Tyler holding Caroline in bed, let’s say it together……awwwww!

    Bonnie

I was so engrossed in the compelling storyline, I forgot to miss her. But I’m glad that she’s coming back though. I mean, who likes spending that much time with their relatives? Looks like Bonnie will have to play catch-up with everything that went on. Don’t forget Bonnie is Elena’s best friend, the one she always turns to. Elena needs her after all that she’s been through.

Can you say this episode was good, yes! Can you say this episode was great, yes! Can you say this recap was looooong, yes! Can we expect more episodes like this, yes! Is there a show on television better than this, no!

intervenes and saves him. Close call, Damon.
