COMPLETE SONGLIST FOR THE HYBRID (EP302)

According to the synopsis, Elena has a new strategy to find Stefan that involves Damon, Alaric… and we’re dying to find out what being soaking wet in a body of water has to do with it. Did Damon dunk her in an attempt to get her to see things his way? Or does Stefan have a previously unknown thing for mermaids? While this is going on, Jeremy and Matt continue to bond over their mutual ability to look good in Mystic Grill t-shirts loss of Vicki, Klaus furthers his plans for world domination and brings out the delicious worst in Stefan, and Caroline is cursing her keen fashion sense as Tyler and Carol Lockwood do the emotional confrontation thing. Now, does anyone know where Elena’s towel is?

Don’t forget that directly after The Hybrid you can watch The Secret Circle, the new Thursday night companion for The Vampire Diaries from Kevin Williamson, based on another L.J. Smith series.

Watch and then swing by here to rate the new episode of The Vampire Diaries. Spoilers are welcome in the comments, though if you want some more in-depth discussion then head on over to the forums! (You’ll need to register, but it takes two seconds.)

SPECIAL NOTE: We decided to experiment with a new poll plug-in and it was a disaster. So we threw together a quick poll in the old format after the West coast airing. Sorry if you weren’t able to see or vote before! And sorry to @entertainocd for squandering the opportunity to use little backpacks for this week’s poll image. Lesson learned!

@Abigail_W:disqus yes! Thank you for that. @a24a34cbc55040f703adb641a4c24a9e:disqus you can’t go around talking about knowing the kind of people we are by whether or not we find this abusive. Damon likes having fun and likes making people around him and the audience laugh. Which is something Stefan rarely does. So no, he wouldn’t have done that.
I consider myself as a more or less neutral person while watching TVD at the moment. And I don’t take everything as a competition , Stefan is his own personanilty and so is Damon. Stop making one of them look bad because of who gets to get Elena’s love. Really, it’s pathetic.

  • TVDHYBRID

So does anybody else think it’s weird that elena, damon, and alaric would come across a werewolf in the woods when the entire pack of werewolves was unable to turn because they all went rabid due to the transition not completely working?? Right before they met the wolf there is a scene with klaus who looks as if he hears something then, his eyes change like he is going to “turn” he says “bloody hell” and then cut to elena face to face with the wolf. If Ray didn’t fully transition the only wolf would be klaus – therefore klaus now knows the doppleganger is alive. Am I reading too much into this ?? LOL

  • kathleen

That was my same thought.  The wolf was Klaus.  Especially because we haven’t seen him as a wolf yet.

  • Anonymous

I kinda think the wolf Elena, Damon & Ric encountered was just a wolf from a completely different pack. Tyler told Elena that there are some packs that like to gather in deserted places so they can change in run free without accidentally killing anyone. The Smokey Mountains is a huge place..it would stand to reason that Ray’s pack wasn’t the only pack in the woods….I think when Klaus said “bloody hell” he was realizing that there was something wrong with his plan and he was going to have to kill all of them…but that’s just me:)

  • eve

Just watched it again…LOL  I know Damon fans had there favorite line.  But, for me it’s “you’ve heard of me…fantastic”…such an arrogant little bugger Klaus is…LOL  Like I said before.  I hate Klaus because he is made Stefan go off with him.  But, I wouldn’t change a single thing about him.  Klaus is tough/badassss/sadistic/etc… and I am looking forward to him and “The Ripper” wreaking havoc together.  LOL  Don’t get me wrong.  Next week I’ll probably be bitching about Damon and Elena together and wanting my Stefan and Elena back together and I am  looking forward to there reunion…pleaseee/hoping.  But, for now I love what Klaus has added to this OUTSTANDING show!  I agree with what a few of you have said about the wolf…it must have been another wolf.  Maybe the wolves and vampires will form an alliance together to take down Klaus.

  • dman

I am not above objectivity when it comes to the various characters in the show. Yes I have my favorites but I don’t have a problem critiquing them if I feel they’ve done something egregious. As I said in my post I DON’T HATE DAMON. The problem I had with him was his act of throwing Elena in the water. It’s just my opinion. You can agree or disagree that is your right but that is just the way I feel. I’m not discussing this anymore. Let’s move on before things get nasty.

  • dman

It’s hard for me to take you seriously when you’re not in front of me. Stop using riddles, coward.

  • dman

    Nicely said!

  • laney

I have a strong suspicion that DMAN may be just a child due to some of the comments that have been made by him or her.. I could be wrong but just a feeling…. Let’s just all try to get along …this used to be a fun place to come but now I kinda don’t like it much anymore.  :( Everyone here loves the show correct? We may have our favorites but I believe that there is no one here that hates another character or actor. if that were the case, we all wouldn’t be watching the show.

Hi Eve- we’ve found something else we have in common, other than our love for TVD…..Klaus:) I just love this character…..when he lost it in this episode after he had to kill his “comrades”, Stefan was looking at him like he had grown two heads….I loved it. All we’ve seen so far is the Klaus that’s all: you’re going to do this because I say so and that’s it. There is not room for negotiation…..what I saw for the briefest of seconds was Klaus having a meltdown….again, I loved it:)

I’m kinda worried…you may have to come and do an “intervention” on me…there’s just something about an accent (and dimples) that gets me every time:)

  • dman

Not a child. dman wasn’t a clue?  I’m a big a fan of this show as anyone that comments on this website. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. Some people agree with your assessment in regards to characters and some don’t. I agree with some comments and I don’t with others. Once again I DO NOT HATE DAMON. Don’t put words in my mouth. I had a problem with him throwing Elena into the water. That’s it. The fact that many people agreed with me says they had a problem with it too. Some people are just too afraid to voice their opinion on the matter because they are afraid someone would retaliate. No one character is above criticism. Just because you criticize a character doesn’t mean you hate that character. In fact I like Ian, Nina, Paul, Candice…basically the majority of the cast. I am sorry you didn’t agree with my opinion but that is the way I felt. I am moving on from this. Stop rehashing this and move on.

  • laney

no dman, it wasn’t a clue for me. Blonde must be seeping thru my head…..
its just that some of the comments make me sad for the show.  i am emotional person though … sometimes not a good trait.

  • eve

    Hi dman, Thanks.

  • eve

Hi VampLover,  I know what you mean about the dimples and accent.  One of the many things I Love to Hate about Klaus is just when you think he kind of seems like he is calm/cool and collected…then BAM!! he snaps and goes all crazy.  LOL  As for the intervention…..I’ll be there….though I have to warn you…..Klaus is looking pretty damned sexy too…..ummm…..so I’m thinking perhaps we’ll both need some kind of intervention.  Crap

  • dman

I am an emotional person as well. When I feel strongly about something, I’m going to voice my opinion and no one would change that opinion for me. But I am not a disruptive person by nature and I was not trying to divide this website. Just like in the real world, when you bring people of differing personalities and opinions together occasionally there will be some flare-ups. If everything is handled with some maturity we can all agree to disagree and move on. Thank you for your understanding and have a good day.

  • gingersez

I agree with Eve, Klaus’s line was the greatest of the night! “Fantastic!” Just the way he delivered it was so delicious. I was really not a Klaus fan until he said that! Then it kind of changed my opinion of him because he is truly Cocky Much.

  • eve

Hi ginersez,  That line changed my opinion too.  Your right…the way he delivered it with a twinkle in his eyes.  The way that he and Stefan just walked in on a group of wolves.  Said those words…so arrogant, cocky, self assured, no fear at all.  I’m 100% for Stefan but damn that Klaus he does have something.  I just hope they don’t change him.  Love him way he is.

  • Jenna

Wow… great point!!! If that was Damon and he killed Andi, she would be disgusted with him, but she is so eyes glazed over and in lala land when it comes to Stephan… I guess she has no problem accepting HIS dark side!!! Maybe he compelled her before she got her necklace back, lol!!!

  • Jenna

Ummm… if you could care less about the love triangle between Damon/Elena/Stephan… then maybe this is not the show for you!!! That is what the whole storyline is based on, other stories are supporting and the three will always be front and center!!! Why do you have to be so harsh toward Damon and Elena fans? I don’t get that! I agree Stephan is great as his own person right now, but I think because he was so one note before!!! Now we actually get to see him have a personality, lol!!! I think Damon cares more about how many people Stephan kills than Elena! It’s amazing… she had no issue with the fact that he’s been killing people all over the place, even that he killed Andie!!! If that was Damon she’d be disgusted!!! It’s strange Bonnie’s not around! Kind of weird. But I’m sure she will be coming in soon… she has a big role in this season apparently! It’ll be fun to see Sheriff Forbes run into her gay ex hubbie!!!

    THE HYBRID

Great episode that continues the trend
that the Vampire diaries is known for. A little more action than the
premiere and some interesting and dangerous new
developments. Also some issues I need to address.

    DAMON

First off I do not hate Damon. I think
he’s an integral part of the show and adds to the balance that is needed.
If he was taken off the show, it would miss a certain something that
he provides and would definitely reflect in the ratings. Second, I’m
not a raving Stelena fan. I don’t even like to use that term. Although
I’m a fan of that pairing, I can remain objective in regards to those
two characters as well as others. With that said I’ll reiterate my previous
point for the last time in regards to Damon’s act.

Nonchalantly throwing a girl that you
supposedly love into a pond of unknown depth is just wrong.
I didn’t think it was funny, Damon wasn’t trying to be funny when he
did it and it was entirely unnecessary on his part. This has nothing
to do with women’s rights or the fact that it is just a television show.
To me that is not something you do to someone you care about and I’m
surprised many more didn’t object to that scenario.

Moving on. I did find the other scenes
with Damon and Elena very compelling. When he enters the pond with Elena
and she tries to convince him of her need to find Stefan, you can tell
that he really cares about her. He listened to her and placed her needs
ahead of his own discretion. He knows trying to find Stefan at this particular
point is dangerous, but he is willing to understand her need to find
    him because he loves her.

I also thought the scene with them
in her bedroom was very touching. She acknowledges that she cares about
him and he tells her to hold on to that feeling. He reminds her to remember
the way she feels about him while Stefan was gone. I wouldn’t have a problem if Damon
and Elena got together if her and Stefan were properly broken up. I
feel it would add an interesting new dynamic to the show and it would also appease the Delena fandom.

    ELENA

Once again Elena refuses to use her brain. She’s hellbent on finding Stefan but she never stops to consider the ramifications if she did find him. She should realize that if she did find Stefan he would likely be with Klaus who would be more than happy to see her. She is putting both Stefan’s and Damon’s life in danger because Damon wouldn’t let her go anywhere alone and Stefan would have to get involved if she runs into Klaus. Be smart Elena. Get together with everyone and come up with a feasible plan.

Also she’s clearly reevaluating her feelings for Damon. With Stefan gone it left a void inside her which Damon albeit in his own way seems to fill. Damon recognizes those feelings and tells her to remember them. Elena has some serious soul searching to do.

    KLAUS

I’m really starting to like Klaus. At first I was a little underwhelmed by Joseph Morgan’s portrayal of Klaus. I wanted Klaus to be a little more over the top and ruthless. The character seems to be opening up more now and revealing more layers. I love Klaus’ line when the werewolf girl mentions that she knew who he was. “You’ve heard of me…fantastic.” Arrogant much, Klaus.

Who doesn’t feel sorry for the bad guy when his plan for world domination falls apart? Lol. Looks like back to the drawing board for Klaus. But why do I get a feeling he’s hiding the fact that he figured out Elena is alive by Stefan’s reaction. That is a scary thought and potentially dangerous new development.

    JEREMY/MATT

This pairing is also starting to grow on me. I think we need a new nickname for these two. Team Ghostbusters? Men In Blue? I see dead people and oh yeah, Matt? Lol. It’s nice to see them working together to figure out what’s happening. They have their own little storyline apart from the main one and it’s interesting to see what becomes of it.

    ALARIC

I’m glad that Alaric listened to Elena and decided to move back in. Jeremy and Elena need someone that’s more of an adult that can give some necessary guidance. The three of them went through some traumatic experiences and need to stick together.

    TYLER/CAROL

I guess a picture is worth a thousand words where Tyler is concerned. Tyler’s decision to fully reveal himself to his mother is smart because it guarantees the maximum impact of his point. If Carol sees that her son is a monster how can she then call Caroline a monster. I loved her reaction when Tyler was transforming. She was genuinely shocked. I don’t think she’ll be throwing stones at someones glass house from now on.  Also, looks like she figured Caroline was a vampire by her own investigation. Wonder where she found the time between throwing lavish parties and those all too familiar town events. I guess she can walk and chew gum at the same time.

    STEFAN

Paul Wesley is doing a tremendous job with Stefan this season. I love his cool demeanor and nonchalant attitude. Stefan is on that precipice and it wouldn’t take much to nudge him over to full rippah status. But it’s clear he still cares. When he sees Elena, Damon and Alaric walking in the clearing he tries to prevent Klaus from finding out. He comes in at the last moment and kills Ray to save Damon. He’s doing everything he can to steer Klaus away from Elena and everyone else. But it’s hard to stay away from Elena. He watches her as she enters the SUV and you can tell it’s painful for him. I feel bad for him having to give up the woman he loves. I hope he makes his back to her someday.

    CAROLINE

What can I say about Caroline? Well, she’s not dead thank God. But it looks like she is in an all too familiar position. Chained to a chair and about to be tortured by her father no less. Felt sad for her. Hang in there Caroline.

    WHERE’S BONNIE?

This is officially not funny. She’s wasn’t in the premiere and now the second episode. WTH? They better bring her back soon cause I think Damon misses his best friend. Ha! Ha!

I’m really getting excited for this season. Every episode steps it up a notch and draws you in more. Is it Thursday yet? Damn!

Klaus said “bloody hell” because the rabid wolves were starting to circle him and he realized they were all going to have to be killed.   He wanted his plan to work, but it didn’t. Klaus told Stefan he killed the ones that did not just bleed out and die.  Klaus was preoccupied with the rabid clan and never left the campsite.

I think the wolf Damon, Elena and Alaric encountered was from another wolf pack that was also camping out in the Smokey Mountains.   That werewolf reacted normally.

Ray and the rest of his pack did not appear to have the capability to turn fully into a wolf.  It was as though their wolf side was bound and killing them from the inside out.

When Tyler, Jules and Mason transformed into their wolf form, they all woke up naked.  Considering what bad shape Ray was in, I do not see how he turned into wolf form, chased Damon, woke up naked, went to find his clothes, redressed and then in his human/half turned werewolf form attacked Damon again.  That scenario makes no sense.

amazing episode <3 i love em all to death <3

    Loved it too :)

Hi dman- I never responded to your post below because all in all, personally, I felt that when Damon through Elena in the water you were over reacting. It was one of the funniest scenes I’ve ever seen and to be frank, Elena deserved it. Not only did she manipulate Ric into going along with her harebrained plan, she obviously does not understand what she’s dealing with. To go werewolf hunting on a full moon all in the guise of finding and helping Stefan was a bit ridiculous. Knowing that Stefan is with Klaus, who to be frank, thinks she is dead…well, what was she going to do if she found them, eh? Walk up to Klaus, bat her eyelashes, and ask if he would be kind enough to release Stefan just because she loves him? Gimme a break…..She put herself in danger, she put Ric in danger, she put Stefan in danger (if Klaus found out Stefan was keeping the fact Elena was still alive from him, what do you think he would have done to Stefan?) and she put Damon in danger. It was one of the most idiot things I’ve seen Elena do to date…….so yes, a dunk in the water was called for. What I found even funnier than that is that when she & Damon were arguing over continuing on with Elena’s harebrained plan, Damon almost looked like he was in pain when he agreed to go along, no doubt because he knew how stupid this whole plan was and was internally cussing himself for going along with it. If he was the caveman your accusing him of, he would have picked her ass up, toted her to the car and back to Mystic Falls they would have gone….but no, he agreed to continue on with the plan because Elena looked so pitiful when she was asking him to go on….and maybe, a tiny part of him was hoping he would run into Stefan again…..that brotherly bond and all will never be broken.

Considering all the blood draining, neck snapping, heart snatching and decapitations we’ve seen on this show to date, a dunk in the water was quite refreshing and personally I’m hoping that Elena’s common sense will return to her. After all, she’s not a woman in her 30′s or 40′s that knows her own mind, she’s just turned 18 years old….and even though she thinks she understands what she’s dealing with, she really doesn’t.

I respect the fact that you and I have different opinions on this, and of course you’re entitled to your own, but personally, and please don’t take offense to this, but I think your over reacting just a tinge. Stefan would never have done that to Elena to be sure, but Damon is completely different from Stefan…I think it’s about time somebody challenges Elena instead of going along with her every whim:) And keep in mind that I personally do not know if I want Elena with either of our Salvatore boys….I’m just enjoying the story as it’s being told:)

  • Auro

    You are what you write.

  • Kallie_tsounaki

WE ARE TALKING ABOUT A TV SHOW!!! THIS ISN’T REAL LIFE!!!! ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!!! AND YES, ELENA COULD HAVE BEEN HURT BUT SHE DIDN’T!!!

  • Infidelz

I’m in the minority with you with pretty much everything you said.  Not into the gore.  The supernatural is much better.  I miss the really quiet, scary shocking images from the first too seasons.  This season so far, is just so over-the-top.  Remember the scene where Elena flips her car, and she sees the guy she hit lying in the road, then all of a sudden he starts moving, like he’s straightening his broken bones, then walks towards her car.  Now THAT was scary.  That’s what made me love Vampire Diaries.

Now we get the protagonist literally ripping people apart and propping their bodies back up?  We have him cruelly killing a nice human (Andie, the same person he once berated his brother about for using her?How am I ever supposed to like Stefen again?  He’s kind of disgusting at this point for me.

Honestly, I’m going to sort of watch until they get past this whole horrible werepire/ripper thing and get to the Originals.  (sigh)

  • rose

I agree with absolutely everything you just said. :-)

  • rose

That wolf who came in front of Elena in the woods could not have possibly been Ray, coz when he and Damon were fighting, and Stefan came and ripped Ray’s heart out, Ray still had his clothes on. It’s not possible that he took off his clothes, turned into a wolf, turned back again, then put his clothes back on..that’s just ridiculous. And he and the other “hybrids” couldn’t turn into wolves as well, they only turned into these creepy bleeding-eyes freaks. Plus, it couldn’t have been Klaus as well, coz Klaus was busy killing those “hybrids”, and he too had his clothes on. It must have been a wolf from another pack in the mountains, as Tyler said there are many out there.
