The Vampire Diaries TV SeriesThis week’s edition of Soap Opera Weekly features Vampire Diaries on its cover and a revealing interview with executive producer Julie Plec. She talks about the major events of The Turning Point, changes from book to screen, and why Damon’s every motivation can be traced back to Katherine.

“It’s going to be really interesting exploring that side of his humanity, because it runs so deep and it’s so profound that it actually make him even crazier and more evil than you might think,” warns Plec. “He’s willing to do anything and everything in the name of love!”

And yes, you read that opening paragraph correctly – looks like The Vampire Diaries does indeed start its holiday hiatus after next week (we haven’t seen CW’s official word on this yet, but it’s the first time we’re seeing it in print). That means Nov. 19th’s The Turning Point is the last new episode until January 2010. Keep in mind that the CW launched Vampire Diaries early. We’ll update with an official network release when we have it.

    No more vampire diaries :(?..

  • panda

    Nooooooooooo! =[
I’ll just rewatch the eps on the net ’til then!

  • MayflowerGirl

I’m sort of glad… If we had two more in December, that would only mean 10 for Jan-May, and it also makes me think the cliffhanger is going to be really big!

    8 weeks! ):

Television always runs a lot of sporting events and special holiday programming from Thanksgiving through New Year’s, and it gives the cast and crew a break to be with their families and friends during the holidays. It is not unexpected. And it allows them to get more new episodes ready to show in January, so they don’t run out of them.

    OMG 8 WEEKS!! :(
But, on a lighter note, this episode looks like it’s going to be beyond awesome (y) Can’t wait to delve deeper into Damon’s twisted mind O_o

Two months is an awfully long time.

  • lisa

  • Jade

Hopefully within the 8 weeks we’ll get some REALLY good spoilers about what’s to come for the rest of the season. That’ll probably keep us on our toes.

Hey, it could be like the crappy deal they’re doing to the new series V over on ABC. They’re going to show 4 episodes and then go on hiatus for 3 or 4 months until after the Olympics are over with. Not that the remake has exactly lit a fire under me, but I do like a couple of the actors, and this could be a show killer for them. TVD has built their audience over 10 episodes. I don’t know if 4 measly episodes is enough to really accomplish that.

  • killerchopsticks

That’s harsh. I enjoy “V” a lot but I don’t really care for it as much as I do TVD lol.

  • Denise Stoltenberg

I like Joel Gretsch (sp?), Scott Hylands, and Morris Chestnutt in their respective roles (the younger priest, the older priest and the Visitor renegade). I didn’t mean the series was crappy … just the way ABC is treating it.

The first episode was too rushed, and the second one drug like crazy. I was a big fan of the Fascist allegory in the 1980s era original and most of the characters in it. Sure the special effects are so much better now and all, but at its core the original V had a great story and that’s what mattered. Except for the afore mentioned actors, none of the others are clicking for me in their roles. I don’t know if it’s the actors (as I’m unfamiliar with the rest of them) or the way the characters are being written.

I’m having the same difficulty with Flash Forward. I like John Cho, Courtney B. Vance, and Brian O’Byrne … the rest I could care less about.

  • killerchopsticks

I meant ABC’s treatment of “V” is harsh haha. Like how they scheduled it mid season for only four episodes before putting it on hiatus.

I’ve never seen the original cause I wasn’t even born when they showed it lol so I can’t comment. I actually really liked the pilot of this version though. There was so much hype and it didn’t disappoint me. The second episode wasn’t as good. But it’s not enough that I’m not attached though I loved Morena Baccarin.

I liked the pilot of Flashforward but the episodes after that just bored me. They drag on before the last few minutes where there’s a “WTF” moment. It’s a shame since I love John Cho so much.

How I will withstand without new episodes of TVD until January… ):

  • http://mychaoticmind.co.nr/TheVampireDiaries.html TeamDamon

I think that they should at least make next weeks eps. a 90 minutes episode! But whatever we’ll see…

  • bee

why do u think its 8 weeks?? november is almost over after this weeks episode so its only 5 weeks until January!!
8 weeks is waaaaaayyyyy to long!!! I can’t even deal with 5 weeks :((

  • Denise Stoltenberg

Because of all the bowl games for college football, the pro football playoffs leading up to the superbowl. Sporting events like those are very popular and TVD is going to want to position itself to come back when it has the maximum shot at continuing its ratings hot streak. Besides, November has 2 weeks left in it, December has 4 (that’s 6 weeks right there), so best estimate is that it’ll return on January 14th.
