Complete songlist for Night of the Comet.

Quick note: We’ve been asked if we’ll be doing recaps/reviews for every episode. The answer is yes…and no. There are already a lot of recaps/reviews out there (plus we’ll be writing summaries for the Wiki anyway), so we’ll be taking a slightly different approach in the blog. Stay tuned tomorrow!

Watch and then swing by here to rate the episode. As the post headline suggests, we’d like to keep comments in general feedback territory. For spoiler-friendly discussion, head to the forum! (You’ll need to register, but it takes two seconds.)

We’re using blood bags in honor of Stefan this week. Because we can. FOUR = LOVE. ONE = MEH.

What did you think of Night of the Comet (EP02)?

The bags of blood are cute, guys lol

The bags of blood are cute. I guess I’m one of the dimes since I do babble about it.

Didn’t mean that as an insult at ALL. But there are a lot of recappers out there so that’s why we’re taking a different approach.

None taken. I tend to babble about pretty much every show I watch but I did add a warning label to it which I’m thinking most people don’t do.

Great ep. Seeing the brothers interact more was great. Fabulous chemistry there & I can’t wait to see more. Darker aspects emerging throughout and that was wholly awesome. Also, I have been pleasantly surprised that the Elena/Stefan romance (or any romance) is not taking over the show. There’s a lot going down in Mystic Falls.

And I give style points to Damon on many things, including his manner of the kill. He’s quite the aesthete. ;)

I thought tonight’s episode was pretty good. Nice and dark. And action!

And Ian did an awesome job with Damon. And there was more of it! XD Very creepy and well done. And I agreed with Anissa about how its not just Elena/Stefan. It’s not just that Elena train. Everyone has got a story connected to each other.

I’m really curious how Caroline will be used by Damon. Cause there’s obviously a bigger picture other than just feeding on her.

The episode was great, looking forward to next weeks episode!

Does anyone know and if so, can someone please tell me the name of and who sings the song that plays in the preview of episode 2 (The Night of the Comet)? I can make out some of the words but not enough to find the song.

I liked this episode, but not as much as the pilot. Looking forward to next weeks episode.

I need to save a lot of my thoughts for tomorrow, but a few things:

I felt like I was on much more solid ground watching this than when I saw the pilot. Watching the pilot was a very surreal, unsettling experience overall. I felt like a lot of that awkwardness was nowhere to be found in this week’s ep.

Even though so much is different from the books, there were these really piercing moments of familiarity that completely blindsided me, a lot of it character-centric. This ep? Bonnie threw me for a complete loop, as did Vicki and Matt. But Bonnie especially.

And I love Paul Wesley so effin’ hard right now. And no, I’m not talking dreamy-speak. He just GETS it. The close-up on him during the rooftop scene actually gave me goosebumps.

And I’m really liking Jenna and Jeremy, too. Go figure.

Alright, I’m shutting up now, but I feel so much relief after this episode.

I had some ups and downs with this episode (mostly ups) but that Sarah Bareilles song at the end, “Gravity”, oh man. That made my day. SYTYCD “Addiction” dance=Stefan&Elena.

  • Amanda

The song is called No Escape by Rie Sinclair

I wonder if your downs are the same as mine, actually.

I don’t know if its because my expectations are too high, or because I’m sleepy, but this episode didn’t grab me like I thought it would. Maybe it was the pacing, or that we saw most of the best moments in commercials and promos. It does seem to be slowly building into what could be a quality, long running series, though. When Damon said Elena had spunk, I didn’t believe him, and not just because he’s a jerk. Stefan was nicely proactive (will he need to find a homeless guy soon?), and I liked all of the other characters. Stefan and Elena’s kiss was a yay! moment. Did anyone notice Vicki’s tone when she said “vampire”? We’re going to be rolling our eyes at the use of “epic” in ten years.

Can the next episode please open with a bright and sunny day, or an indoor shot?

When Damon bent in as though he was going to bite Stefan – I hope that’s foreshadowing of the attack at the end the first book. I also loved the moment on the roof, when Damon wanted Stefan to feed on Vicki – I can see where Ian was coming from in all the interviews, saying that a lot of Damon’s bad behaviour is from loneliness, stemming from the fact that Stefan won’t join in with Damon and the way he embraces vampirism.

Oh, no. Have you seen the ratings? You can check them on: http://tvbb.zap2it.com/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/1722106/gonew/1/Thursday_Ratings_09_17_09
“The Vampire Diaries dipped by a hefty 28 percent from its debut one week earlier (3.2/ 5 on Sept. 10). Normal overnight erosion for any new series in week two is generally 10 to 20 percent.”

  • Roman

Ooo this was so incredible great! I can’t find a words again))) Yeah there were times where I noticed the book elements and then – a new things and when again. I’m sure the TVD show is following to the right way.
And now I have to wait the next week again)))

  • Lily

Three blood bags for this episode.

I keep seeing good reviews over Ian’s performance. Am I the only one who thinks he’s a bit too.. hmm, expressive (or exaggerated?) in his portrayal of Damon? I actually had high expectations from Ian but for now, I’m just a little disappointed although he did pulled off some scenes quite nicely.

  • Amber

I thought it was really good! although Stefan and Elena’s kiss should have been better. I loved Damon in the ep so much! but i was sad on how they deleted the scene with Damon and Caroline from the preveiw (was it me or was Caroline’s bra a different color from the promo??)

  • http://twitter.com/anissaannalise Anissa

Oh yes, I hope they use that in the show because I loved that part of the book. And I agree about Damon. I found him very sympathetic in the books & I think Ian is doing a good job of bringing out Damon’s personality.

I do hope that overall it’s done in a way that people are able to see that Damon isn’t simply a brutal monster. There’s a lot more going on with him. I suspect I’ll be yelling at my screen as I did when I read the books “Stefan, your brother’s repeatedly saved your ass. Shall we count the ways?! So cut him some slack! as the story slowly unfurls.

I know Stefan’s good at working his emo, but really he’s in many ways as maladjusted as his brother. And hey, why shouldn’t they be? They’ve been traipsing around the world for more than a hundred years, all the people they’ve loved are long dead & their existence is wholly based on subterfuge. That’s a pretty deep mindfrak & a lot to keep up, especially when there’s no end in sight. That Stefan realizes the need of a connection (& seeks out Elena) is admirable. That he refuses any sort of one with Damon is profoundly sad for both of them.

They’re in their current state because of the whole Katherine thing & how they both spiraled out of control & wound up killing each other. You’d think after all this time, they’d have figured out that no matter what, when it’s all said and done, they share more than a familial bond & since they’ve got so much corporeal time to burn, work it out. ;)

And I totally forgot to mention how I’m loving Bonnie. Actually I’m loving Caroline & I hated her hard in the books. I still want her to be the frenemy to Elena though.

  • Stephanie

The episodes are kinda different from the book but I totally loved it, can’t wait for the next one :)
