Today was Vampire Diaries day at New York Comic Con (we think there might have been other stuff going on, but it pales in comparison to the Vampire Diaries, right?), with Kevin Williamson, Julie Plec, Steven R. McQueen, Katerina Graham, Zach Roerig and Sara Canning in attendance. Moderated by the lovely Carina MacKenzie (@cadlymack on Twitter – give her a follow), the panel was – by all accounts – a blast, with all kinds of intriguing spoilers and factoids being revealed (which you can see further down under the spoiler warning). Carina was also able to confirm with Steven that he doesn’t have a Twitter account. Anyone claiming to be him is a fake. Accept no substitutes.

Steven R. McQueen says “Jeremy was meant to go through a lot of loss. He mans up & starts to embrace his destiny.” He’s also set for a face-off with Katherine in the next few episodes. We hope he has better luck with that ring than Uncle John did. Also, Steven draws most of Jeremy’s artwork on the show. How cool is that?
Episode 8 will reveal more about Katherine’s origins in a flashback to Romania, circa 1492 (nice little nod to the book timeline, there). And you think she’s evil now? She’s going to make her previous actions pale in comparison over the next couple of episodes.
There are hints that Bonnie could be involved in a love triangle with someone we already know and a new character. She’s sure making up for her lack of decent romance in season 1! Julie Plec also says “Bonnie is only one who calls Damon out on the shit he pulls, which is an unpopular opinion with people who believe Damon does no wrong. Damon does wrong!”
Zach Roerig says “Matt is just trying to pay the bills, busing tables, eating Easy Mac and a can of peas and keeping his truck running.” Poor Matt! Guy needs a break, right? Also, both he and Jenna will remain in the dark about the supernatural goings on in Mystic Falls… for now.
Julie says Melinda Clarke could be back. The supernatural story they had started for Kelly Donovan (see the deleted footage on the DVD for A Few Good Men) felt ‘too soon’.
Kevin Williamson also confirmed the possibility of David Anders coming back as Uncle John. They didn’t kill him off because they love David, and there’s still a lot of potential for his story, especially as he’s Elena’s father.
Arielle Kebbel could also make a return as Stefan’s best friend, Lexi. We’re assuming flashbacks will come into play here – maybe we’ll get to see Stefan at that Bon Jovi concert?
Julie Plec also says “I think by the time the show is over, Damon will have had sex with every man, woman and child in Mystic Falls.” Is anyone actually shocked by this revelation? Anyone? ;)

You know what? When I heard that the flashback were from that timeperiod, I immedialey thought the same thing…..wouldn’t it be interesting if she (Kat) was originally a part of his “court”? Think about it….WOW.

Don’t worry, I don’t think Kevin Williamson will go down that road…I just wanted to make a point. With all the character development Kevin has done with Damon, I don’t think he’s going to have him revert to that…..

Im just feeling negative energy from the producers when they talk about Damon, give me a break. Yes, everyone knows that Damon does wrong this, its always him. The others can’t do no wrong can they?

GUYS, THE DAMON COMMENT IS A JOKE! Perhaps the child bit wasn’t the best thing to say, but it’s a spur of the moment thing on a panel and you don’t always get time to think comments through. There is NO real suggestion that Damon would ever sleep with children. Also, it should be noted that nearly all of the main characters on this show could be classed as ‘children’ – the teens are all 17 and under. Does it not occur to you that Julie, as someone who is an adult, might naturally refer to teenagers as children, too? It was basically Julie saying that Damon’s a sexy guy who enjoys a good time and is on the prowl in Mystic Falls. NOTHING MORE. It’s a play on the theme of ‘lock up your daughters’. Now, can we please lighten up?

Other than that, totally looking forward to watching the flashback scenes, Katherine will be interesting to see as a human!

Everyone looked gorgeous! Love Bonnie and her witch powers look forward to her having a romance. Glad that Matt and Jenna are in the dark about the vampire thing. It wouldn’t be the same if everyone knew, gotta have some mystery. Oh like the idea of John and Lexu coming back. Julie is my fav, she’s down to earth and has a great sense of humour. Like when she’s being a girls girl joking around about things. You know how hot the guys are on the show. love that. Hope Jeremy doesn’t get too sure of himself with the ring and trying to get more involved. He’s young and kinda get the impression he thinks because of the ring he can take on everything. Love this show!

I’m sure Julie considered this a joke, but it was in very poor taste. As a mom of 3 kids, ages 19, 17 & 13, I can honestly say that comment totally offeneded me. Yes, the characters on the show are teenagers and most people consider them young adults. However, as a mom who’s 36 years old, I consider the term “kids” to mean aged 14 & under as my 19 year old is in college, my 17 year old is taking on-line courses, and my 13 year old has YET to hit high school. As a producer of a very popular TV show, even if the comment was spur of the moment, and considering this was NOT her first panel, the comment was completely inappropriate. You know how the press takes little tidbits and run with it, I can just see the headlines now, “Julie Plec, producer of the very popular TV show, The Vampire Diaries, says Ian Sommmerhalder is going to be sleeping with young children on the next episode, stay tuned for your local news”…..I mean, we know that’s not going to happen, we know she meant it as a joke, it was just in very poor taste. Don’t get me wrong, I think she’s a brilliant writer, I just think as a parent, I have every right to be offended by a comment like that. Especially in this day and age. It’s easy to say, “lighten up”, but the fact is, as a parent, when this topic comes up, we can’t. We have to be ever vigilinent against any threats to our children.

Everyone looks so happy and full of energy. It’s great that the rest of the cast get to interact with the fans. Cannot wait to see Katherine the beginning.lol Who is Bonnie going to be romantic with…perhaps Damon? or some other great looking guy. Would love to see Stefan at a Bon Jovi concert.lol Looking forward to the flashback with Lexi. Poor Matt, he really deserves a break. Jenna not knowing what is going on should be interesting considering she is dating Alaric. Kevin and Julie are so great at there job. They know how to keep us guessing and hanging on the edge of our seats.

This bothered me as well. I think Julie has had recently very bad taste in a lot of her interviews. I am glad she loves Gossip Girl so much that she wants to turn TVD into it but if thats the case I am going to stop watching and stick to the books. They have taken Damons character places in this show that he would never go in the books. I think Julie is trying to live vicariously through Damon..yuck

I think that it is great that we get to see and hear from the rest of the cast of the vampire diaries, hey where’s Alaric? OMG Katherine is going to show an even worse side. Nina does such a great job that I find when I’m watching the show I forget she’s playing both parts. How gorgeous does Bonnie and Jenna look. Bonnie and a love interest, can’t wait. It’s about time. Jeremy is no Uncle John, he better be careful.(that is wild that his grandfather is the greatest actor, Steve McQueen) I’d like to see the episode where Stefan and Lexi were hanging out, drinking. Stefan running naked.lol Love the flashback scenes. Matt Matt, hope he gets a new love interest. Kevin and Julie are doing a fantastic job. I think that it is wonderful that they support there entire cast.

Julie is not a novice, she is a seasoned writer and producer. While it may have been meant as a joke “live” on the Comic Con panel, it translated differently when presented in text.

Also, this statement makes no sense: Julie Plec also says “Bonnie is only one who calls Damon out on the shit he pulls, which is an unpopular opinion with people who believe Damon does no wrong. Damon does wrong!”

As a Damon fan, I will be the first to admit he can do wrong, as does every character, especially Bonnie, on the show. I do not see the context where, how, or why Bonnie needs to call Damon out on the shit he pulls. The writing for Bonnie’s character has made her to be an unsympathetic, cold, angry, vengeful person that cannot admit her own guilt to the series of events that have affected her life. It would be nice to have Bonnie back as Elena’s friend and ally. Basically, Bonnie needs her personality back. She needs to be someone who can laugh, enjoy life, have close friendships and be a trusted friend again. The writers need to “lighten” her up a bit.

Kevin Williamson does a great job writing the lines for Damon. He has done a fantastic job creating this wonderful complex character, which I must say Ian Somerhalder portrays with pure perfection. Damon has proven, that while things may not go as planned, his actions time and time again are in the name of love for a woman. He stayed true to his quest for Katherine (of course that did not end well) and he will do whatever it takes to protect Elena. Please note I said whatever it takes. Kevin has said that there will be a Damon/Elena relationship to explore. As a fan, the wait will be worth it, but for now it is babysteps. The book series and the TV series are two separate entities, not to be confused with each other. At comic con Kevin Williamson did NOT say Stefan/Elena are end game but said “you don’t always end up with your soul mate”.

I am looking forward to the “face-off” between Jeremy and Katherine. Also, Steven R. McQueen does those drawings himself. WOW! Good Job!

Also, very happy to hear David Anders will be back as John Gilbert. There is so much potential there as Elena’s father.

Hopefully, the Comic Con panel video from today will hit the internet. I am really looking forward to watching it.

I was initially shocked at first after reading it, but then I quickly remembered that everyone can make a mistake once in a while and say things they later regret. Surely she didn’t mean it literally, it slipped and I’m certain each person reading this can understand because we’ve all been there.

Moving on, it’s refreshing when an actor performs his own stunts, in this case art, i.e. Steven drawing most of Jeremy’s art work. Nice to know he’s multi-talented and wonder if he would consider selling any of it.

It’s difficult to picture Bonnie in a love triangle when she has yet to find just one love interest to date;)

If killing Caroline wasn’t evil enough, I wonder what worse drama we’re in for from Katherine.

Don’t you think Sara Canning’s dress is cute? I would have liked it even more is she wore Katerina Graham’s shoes though:)

In my opinion what Julie really meant with her comment about Damon is hes a dog and would sleep with anyone over the legal age on two foot, even the sheriff and Mrs Lockwood are not of limits to Damon, heck after seeing Stefan and Elena in bed he still wanted her(pig).

Did anyone else notice that Zack George AKA Matt was not going back to ATL with the rest of the cast after the NYC appearance mmmm?

Looking forward to seeing the fashion, and Kat&Stefan in the flashbacks, i hope we get closer to find out why Elena&Kat look exactly alike. What ever happens i hope it does not tear apart Elena&Stefan would break my hart if that happens.

I just turned 20 on July 22 and I will tell you that you’re CONSIDERED A CHILD underlaw if you’re under 18 unless something changed. You’re not an adult imo until you pay your own bills, live in your own house, and have your own responsibilities. The fact that people are stating “Oh well Julie is just saying this and putting it that way as if it’s a card” NO! Obviously..if some of you/ or if not all of you have a twitter you would see that it is actually just that sometimes from the tweets I see. If Julie wanted to turn Damon gay..so what..and? If you have a problem with a character turning gay, but don’t have a problem with a character killing human beings than there is seriously something wrong with that. There wont be headlines about Damon having sex with children..you want to know why..because Damon already has done it. he slept with Caroline many times surely and had her even compelled. Totally agree with you. I don´t like how is developing this season. I think that Damon´s character deserves some respect.

During Alaric’s training scene who do you think the two female shapes are? One I think could be Caroline but I have doubts on the other one: Bonnie or Elena? In case it is Bonnie it could mean this is a rescue team?
