The Vampire DiariesFor those who weren’t aware, the Television Critics Association Press Tour is under way, and the panel for the Vampire Diaries took place today. Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder were all there, along with executive producers Kevin Williamson, Julie Plec and Bob Levy.

The panel was only 30 minutes long, but there were all kinds of tidbits thrown out into the Twittersphere. On the virtually spoiler-free front:

  • Julie Plec confirmed that those synopses that have been floating around on IMDB are as fake as a very fake thing.
  • The writers are going to address why exactly Stefan and Damon can’t trust each other.
  • Alaric is going to start featuring more in the second half of the season, when we’ll discover why he came to Mystic Falls.

As for the spoilery… highlight/mouseover to find out:

  • There are no plans to turn Elena into a vampire any time soon.
  • We’ll be seeing some Damon and Katherine kissing action.
  • Things are going to be hotting up between Damon and Elena as they start to address that love triangle thing.
  • The second half of the season will see “Damon finally having to step up and act like a big brother when something huge happens to Stefan.”
  • Bonnie and Elena’s relationship is set for a rocky patch. Kevin Williamson says that now Bonnie is aware of vampires “she has to make a choice, is she down with it or is she going to have a problem with it?”
  • Damon’s going to continue to be very interested in Bonnie – she’s going to be important in getting that tomb open.

You can read more details about the panel over on the TV Addict’s live blog post, and if you’re looking for pictures of the event, Zimbio have got some up of everyone on the panel.

    Neat stuff.

They also had some nice stuff to say about Atlanta

    QUOTE:
According to executive producer Kevin Williamson, “Diaries” — which seems a lock for a season 2 — has benefitted greatly from its Atlanta production location.
“I think we’re going to stay in Atlanta — Atlanta has been very good to us,” he said, noting the benefit of the Georgia state production credit. “We have an amazing crew down there that keeps delivering for us day after day. This is a great-looking show with a very polished look.”
For his part, actor Paul Wesley, who plays the dark, mysterious Stefan Salvatore on the series, said the youthful cast benefits from not having media-capital distractions around.
“We only have each other, and that shows up in the chemistry on screen,” he said.
“We’re not exposed,” concurred castmate Ian Somerhalder, who plays Damon Salvatore. “There’s no other media that we have access to.”

Also Paul Wesley made his perennial case for Stefan getting darker.
    QUOTE:
“I feel Stefan is as much capable as the dark side as much as Damon,” [Wesley] says. “It’s up to Kevin and Julie to explore, but I like to think that’s always there. First and foremost we’re vampires, but we have certain instincts we have to fulfil and we can’t run from.”

have any of you read the books?
i have no idea why the show is NOTHING like the books at all.
the main characters are true to the book and thats about it. they even change some of the basic plot. it makes no sense
i mean elena and damon don’t even make a connection till like the 4th book after shes been a vampire  (Quote)
