TV Guide's Vampire Diaries Bite & Why Klaus Isn't Any Worse Than the SalvatoresIt’s Vampire Diaries Bite time and this week TV Guide‘s listing off 5 Reasons Why Klaus Isn’t Any Worse Than Stefan or Damon:

Klaus is just really, really lonely Because his own parents viewed him as an abomination, Klaus never felt worthy of affection. That’s why he isolates himself from those around him with violence and a false display of apathy — but that doesn’t mean Klaus is at all happy about it.

After Stefan insulted Klaus for keeping victims’ letters to memorialize them, the Original pointed out that Stefan wrote his victims’ names on walls. According to Klaus, this wasn’t a celebration of the deaths, but simply a “reminder that in the end, we’re left infinitely and utterly alone.”

Agree? Disagree? Head over to TV Guide to read the rest of their reasons and then check out the Bite below.

    I would love Klaus forever!!!

So, I agree all vampires are bad though I still think Klaus is the worst of them and sorry I have a hard time liking him after the Mayor.  That aside…

Does this feel like a ‘convenient’ moment for television media to start pushing Klaus as a ‘not so bad guy’ since he’s likely to pick up his own show?  I mean I know other originals will be on the spin-off ‘the Originals’ but Klaus is without a doubt a ‘lead’.  If the originals follows the route of Klaus coming to redemption then it seems like this article is just around to help push that.

Clever marketing though, gotta give the WB that.

Um… Does not matter, I’m biased, and yeah, Screw Klaus, so, no.

“Klaus’s judt very very lonely”. Nice reason. Not. I still want him dead.

I think the thing that makes Klaus worse than Stefan, and Damon, and even his other siblings-with the exception of Kol-is that Klaus has no remorse for anything that he’s done. If he’s ever shown any, I must have missed it. Klaus thinks he’s “entitled,” but that is something that existed before he was a vampire. Blame Mom and Dad. If you think about what we know about their past, everything that Mom and Dad did showed that they, too, had an “entitlement” mentality, IMO. They were “entitled” not to lose their children, so they managed to get to the New World before most of Europe even knew it was there thinking that would avoid being exposed to mass illness. Then, when tragedy struck once again, the “entitlement” mentality struck again, and they were entitled to become immortal, while the other lowly humans had to die as usual. Not only that, but more powerful, too, just for their own protection
The other Originals have that attitude, too-but not to the extent Klaus does.
So, yes, we know that Damon did bad things when he came to MF-but we also saw all the cracks in his cold, blooded SOB persona. Damon “cared,” but he did all those horrible things to show that he didn’t-not that his issues make what he did all okay. Now, it goes without saying that Damon can be a very deadly vampire-the same goes for Stefan. We’ve been shown, though, that they are capable of remorse. As warped as it is, when Ripper Stefan puts his victims back together, that is a kind of remorse-even shame for being capable of being so vicious. If they weren’t then they wouldn’t have been struggling with their own feelings all this time. They wouldn’t be able to feel real love for Elena, or anybody.
Klaus is still so self-centered and feels so entitled that he has even kept his own family either imprisoned or intimidated until Stefan and Co. ended up being parties to inadvertently setting them loose last year. Klaus may have some small regret when he “daggers” Rebekah, but its only a blip because his own agenda means more to him than anybody or any other thing. Now, perhaps we’ll see Klaus indeed start to reform in the new series, if it does go to series-which looks pretty likely right now-and also if it finds enough of an audience on its own. Right now, though, its still all about Klaus-and he’ll beg, borrow, steal, maim, torture, and kill to achieve whatever it is that he wants.

Well done, you put into words exactly how I feel.
The originals are 1000 years old… at what point do you stop blaming your parents? All the originals are bullies (even Elijah although he’s awesome) they wouldn’t be so eager to cause so many fights if there was a chance of them losing. Elijah once told Damon ‘I’m an original, show some respect’ and I think that sums up my problem with them: respect is earned, you don’t just get it for being old. Actually being old just makes the originals bullies for a really, really long time.
The only original that I really like is Elijah, so I don’t think I’ll watch the spin-off. I’d rather they just made them more likeable in tvd.

Klaus crossed my personal line after Aunt Jennas death, then I had a soft spot for him during the last half of season 3 and the beginning of season 4, but then he botched it by killing Carol Lockwood. And what pisses me off most is that he made it look like an accident…
But JoMo, I simply love this crazily talented actor, so I am glad that he will have an own show.
And you are very right about the marketing strategy :)

They’re really pushing the Originals this season to get them all shined up and ready for their spin-off.  Which is fine because I quite like the Mikaelson’s – with the exception of Kol who is just a bratty, useless baby. The thing is, they’re doing it at the expense of the regular MF gang, which is annoying.  The focus on making Klaus and Rebekah badass and interesting enough for their own show has been so heavy that it feels like some parts of the other characters are being sacrificed for the cause.

Also, while I do love watching Klaus as a character, please don’t try to convince me that his remorseless, selfish behavior is truly comparable to either of the Salvatores. Just no.

To borrow a phrase Matt had said to Rebekah a few weeks back (and paraphrase it a little):” Klaus has had 1000 yrs to grow and evolve and start fresh and he threw it all away”.Yes he had horrible parents but he ended up becoming just like them. And his siblings never left his side even after everything he’s done to them.So no,he wasn’t alone and he needs to stop blaming his parents for everything he’s done.He needs to grow up and take responsibility for his actions.
I’m not going to play the game if the Salvatores are better than Klaus or not.The Salvatores are not good people but like soneone else said at least they feel remorse, they take responsibility for their actions and they APOLOGISE.Stefan’s argument about how they are not better than him, therefore he feels guilty for putting him down has one major flaw:They all do horrible things but Klaus has done horrible things to THEM.And he’s planning to do it again with using Elena as  a blood slave. The gang should want him dead (or dessicated or whatever) b/c he’s hurt THEM not considering giving him a free pass just b/c they are murderers too.

Um… all of the TVD Vampires are a predatory species …. all have the capability to do great evil and great good. …. all are complex multi-layered  characters.

TVD is a supernatural show full of Vampires, Hybrids, Witches and Werewolves.  Only those that understand the genre will take this show as entertainment only and not try to place moral high standards on a Vampire, but will love them when they do great things.

I agree with all of that.  Still, I admit I’m Biased; I hate Klaus, so all the comparisons may make logical sense, I still do not care.  I’m being irrational.

Klaus is more of a bully than an adversary. Yes, he has been driven to what he is in the series by his unfortunate parentage, we watch Mikael bully Klaus in Ordinary People and not even Elijah who looks like he could break Mikael’s arm with one finger does anything to help him, but the writers have made him too damaged to be believable as a villan. I had expected him to be much more cold and calculating, and his obssession with Stefan is actually disturbing. The only truly ‘scary’ Original’ is actually Kol, he does not seem to care about or be scared of anyone or anything.

  • GrimmLeFray

Reminder: Kol is scared of Silas.
