Ava – I think you put it very well, and I agree with what you said about not leaving us hanging on the VD season finale in May!…summer’s a long time to lose viewers along the way, too! As for another fantastic vampire series that a saavy network should start up, four words: The Gardella Vampire Chronicles (by Colleen Gleason). I recommend everybody read the first one, The Rest Falls Away, while we’re waiting for the hiatus to be over. A bit more True Blood than VD, but so very good.

Ginger, you said everything I was thinking only couldn’t put it right, I completely AGREE. The CW should think of us fans,but they probably won’t. They are quite sure that once the show is back from hiatus number 2 we will forget. Something tells me we won’t. Looking forward to the RATINGS.

I know VD is concerned about ratings and doesn’t want to go up against the Olympics, but has anyone else noticed how they have started airing so many more commercials during each episode? It seems to me as the show has become more popular, gained a bigger audience, the commercials have increased. As a fan of the show from the beginning, it’s annoying to have a commercial break, or a promo for another CW show, after each scene now. Really cuts into the continuity and enjoyment of the show. And I’m sure they are getting a lot more money for the commercials, since this is what ratings are all about. The 2 hiatus, more commercials, wondering what you’re up to CW…think of us fans who have made VD such a hit, please!

Ok seriously, as for the technical,production whatever part. Get real! with all the money the cw has, give me a break, movies ie eclipse was made faster, as for it takes so much time— really, two hiatus. I just agree with alot of people the cw should do something, liked the idea of the two hour special for the real season finale. kinda makes me not want to watch when it returns. probably will but, I’m really hoping I find another show, that won’t let me down.

The ONLY good thing about this is that it tells me that they aren’t sacrificing quality of writing and production just to get episodes out. The ONLY good thing. This show is such a breath of fresh air and so well done it really does make me sad that they’re breaking again so soon after the last break. Sad Sad Sad….

Even if they aired episodes straight through the month of February, they’d run out of new episodes to show and would have to take a break anyway. The production is only three episodes ahead of airing. You can’t just film something and put it on TV the next day. Unless you don’t care about the quality. An episode takes a couple of weeks at the minimum to shoot and edit into some kind of reasonable facsimile of coherent stuff you’d want others to see. For instance, in “Children of the Damned”, I’m sure all of the scenes in the 1864 costumes were filmed at the same time and then spread out into the episode. Then there are special effects and everything … reshoots if they become necessary. It all takes time. I’d rather have the six week break now than have to tweak it along a couple of weeks at a time the whole rest of the season. I’d sooner continue to see a quality program rather than something that’s been slapped together just for the sake of getting it on the air.

Ok this is crazy…I have to agree with everyone on this 2 hiatus. I understand things happen and that we don’t want the ratings to be low, but come on and you are a true fan no one will even think of watching the Olympics..lol…I’m used this hiatus they used to do it a lot with Smallville and for some reason I think they are losing ratings…My husband and I still watch it but I’ve noticed its not as big as it used to be..Maybe its because all this vampire craze who knows? well I guess we’ll have to endure it for another long month of no new Vampire Diaries this sucks big time!!!! :(

I agree I feel that to have two hiatus’s it crazy. It could lose some fans because of this hiatus. I love this show and just knowing I have to wait till March 25 its annoying. I am addicted to this show and those breaks are destroying my addiction. They had a break back in November got back on in January 21, to only be able to watch just 4 new episodes. Thats crazy. I personnally care more about watching Vampire Diaries then the Olympics. Also I and I am sure many tape it on their DVR so they, I can watch it anytime I wont. I think they will lose some viewers because of this and if they want to take a break dont take a 6 week break take a 2 week break. This is Ridiculus.

A hiatus doesn’t appeal good for so many reasons. They’re worried the Olympics won’t do any good for the show, but what about losing viewers because of hiatus? I’m not sure if they really ballanced both situations.
I love TVD, that’s one of the best shows ever for the late times; TV doesn’t have much to me it’s fact. And TVD made me wanna watch TV again. Well, it sucks but I’ll wait no matter what :)

On a positive note, according to Julie Plec’s Twitter, they just finished Episode 17 (116 in the rotation), so there’s 5 more to get filmed. Without the break, there’s no way The CW wouldn’t run out of episodes to show in a couple of weeks anyway. They are only 3 ahead of what is airing at this time and it takes about three weeks to shoot, edit, etc. an episode to make it ready to go. They’d be out of episodes to run by the end of February until the end of March anyhow.

Understand the Olympics but for a new show to have two hiatus’s. the cw really needs to make up for this. It lost some of it’s viewers last hiatus. might lose alot this time.

Another hiatus sucks, but it’s understandable. It would do a show no good at all if they competed with the Olympics games. A pretty much sold out Winte Olympics and the expectance of many people to watch it on television, even though not many of us would like another hiatus, it is the better option. Besides, after this hiatus, praise the Lord there won’t be more hiatus for our much loved “Vampire Diaries”.

Another hiatus . WOW!!! I think that the CW should show they care about us the viewer’s. When the REAL SEASON FINALE happens at the end of SEASON 1 they should go easy on the CLIFFHANGER, and make the season finale a 2 hour special, it wouldn’t take much at this point for another network to start up another Vampire show and for us to switch, after all with so few of Vampire Diaries episodes, it really is possible. As much as we LOVE this show, remember CW, when twilight first came out it was so popular until the Vampire Diaries came along, believe me I loved twilight until the vampire diaries came along. The CW should show that they appreciate us. I’m not just venting it is how I really feel
