For those of you looking forward to TwiCon, which was set to be the first North American convention celebrating True Blood, Twilight, and The Vampire Diaries, we have some bad news.

TwiCon’s Twitter, @OfficialTwiCon, was deleted with no apparent statement on the cancellation, but according to a March 13th posting on their website:

After much thought, deliberation and best intentions to survive, TwiCon Partners LLC has made the difficult decision to cease operations. Competitive pressures, coupled with the persistent nature of the economic downturn, have necessitated this action. Both of the scheduled 2010 TwiCon events have been cancelled as a result of today’s decision.

They also state that ticketholders will receive information on refunds shortly.

No surprise there–the first one was apparently a disaster.

I’ve actually spent the better part of this evening reading up on it and, yeah – sounds like a pile of wank.

From the way they’ve treated ticket holders in the past, I wouldn’t be surprised if TwiCon *DIDN’T* refund anything, only refunded part of the ticket, or made it so impossible to get refunds that (they hope) the buyers just stop trying to get a refund.

What did they expect, treating their congoers like they’re nothing but walking wallets. While every con sort of does it, most will at least make you feel good about having to put out money for everything!
