wow. that girl that plays elena s HORRIBLE for that part!!!! elena has BLONDE/GOLEN hair!!!!! and bonnie has like strawberrie colored curls in her hair!!! and elena is supposed to be kinda pale. but other than that i GUESS it will be ok… but idk its gonna take some getting used to…

Well, I think Ian Somerhalder is PERFECT for Damon, but the worst of the cast is by FAR Bonnie, they should swap Bonnie and Caroline around (isn’t C supposed to have bronzy skin?? Katerina has quite dark skin, while Candice has pale skin, like Bonnie.)

And I’m also not happy with the plot–they should have left it the way it was.

I’m not too excited about the show, but I’ll watch the pilot anyway.

I think the cast is really bad. I’m really dissapointed. WHY ISN’T ELENA BLONDE WITH BLUE EYES AND PALE SKIN???? and there isn’t meredith and that’s bad because she’s supposed to be one of the main character of the book. Bonnie is also supposed to have red curly hair and pale skin. They also add some caracters or change their name and that’s awful. I think the books will be totally differents than the tv show

I’m really disappointed with the casting so far. No Meredith? No Margaret? What’s with Aunt Judy? And there is no Jeremy in the books!!!!

And what’s up with Bonnie? She’s supposed to be descendant from Druids. And that is not Elena.

Also, Vicky is not Matt’s sister. That is just ridiculous, and Elena didn’t have a brother. What happened to innocent little Margaret. This is just all wrong. Did they even read the books before they decided to make the TV show. Come on if you’re going to make a series based on a book then you need to read the book. Common knowledge, and if I were LJ Smith I would definitely put my foot down and make sure that my writing and my characters were done justice.

I really think the cast is horrible. Elena is so not blonde, and not trying to be mean but Stefan and Damon is UGLY! I might watch it but it better be good.

i really love this books and now you are changing everything i don´t care about who you choose to play elena or bonnie but what about the guy that is going to play stefan he doesn´t look like our stefan. and what about the story you don´t have to change anything just follow the books as they are and it would be perfect.

I hated the casting when it was first announced. But now that I’ve gotten used to all the changes, I don’t mind it as much. Especially the casting for the girls. I thought Nina did a decent job as Elena in the trailer, and I can deal with a blond Candice as Caroline and Katerina as Bonnie.

The one person I can’t get over is Paul Wesley, though. At first I thought it was because he just isn’t “Stefan” in my mind. So I wanted to give him a chance. I figured maybe if I could separate the show from the books, I would like him better.

But I think even if I hadn’t read the books, I would still dislike him as the lead male protagonist. He just–doesn’t have the face for it. You look at the casting and you see all of these very attractive actors: Ian Somerhalder, Zach Roerig, Michael Trevino, Steve Belford, Chris William Martin. Even the kid playing Jeremy is cute, and Mr. Tanner is sexy for an old guy. And the girls are beautiful.

And Paul is…not. I’m incredibly disappointed, considering the CW is known for its hot male leads. That was always such a huge draw for me, in any show I watched: Gossip Girl, Supernatural, One Tree Hill. And suddenly we have this rather plain-looking guy (I won’t say ugly) trying to fill the role of one of the most attractive characters on the show. He’s supposed to be hotter than all the other guys at school, and instead Mr. Tanner is more handsome than him. That’s–really sad.

I don’t know how Paul ever got the part, but I really hope they recast Stefan. They need someone who’s gorgeous (or at least handsome) to be the other male lead. It doesn’t seem like much of a choice when the options are Mr. Generic or Mr. Generic’s Hot, Sexy Brother.

And I totally agree with whoever said Drew Fuller would be a good fit. He may be 29, but if Ian (30) can play Damon – who’s supposed to be in his early 20′s – then I think Drew could pull off a high school student. He looks young in the pictures I’ve seen, and it kind of just depends on the haircut and how you act. At the very least, I hope the network finds another actor to replace Paul. I’m okay with everyone else except him.

After Seeing the clips i think are okay but i think the perfect casting was damon he really look the part and for steven i think he have good acting part of it. but the look i have a lot of desire to do. but i love the one seem that it in book between brother and pilot was awasome i hope the following the book as best as possible i know will change something and add something but at least the main the story.

I agree the girl playing Elena looks like Meredith. Bonnie is a red head in the books and Elena is a blonda. Stefan should be better looking and they took out the little sister margaret on the tv show. Also they are just making Stefan and Damon like a hundred years old. In the books they are more like five hundred years old and from Italy but now from USA—okkkkk—-to many changes. Matt on the tv show seems to be ok and the hit it dead on with Damon. The guy playing Damon really is perfect for the roll. I think over all the show will do well from what I’ve seen. The actors seem pretty good even thought they changed them.

When I first saw the cast, I hated them. They don’t look anything like there character descriptions. But not that I’ve had time to adjust to the changes I’m OK with the cast. But two things I’m defiantly NOT OK with are the choice’s for Matt and Elena, Their absolutely awful. Elena as a tanned brown eyed brunette? WTF? After watching the clips and the extended preview I was extremely disappointed to see that Elena was being portrayed horrible. Elena is a manipulative bitch, and in the show all I’ve seen her as is a nice shy plain girl. That is not Elena. Elena is suppose to be strong and popular, defiantly NOT shy. Elena is a very likable character to begin with, but sweet shy Elena is so much worse then multiplicative and bitchy Elena. Zach Roerig as Matt is equally awful, he doesn’t look the part at all. When I imagined Matt I imagined the golden boy, the muscled up typical blond all American guy. Zach just isn’t right. And I don’t see why the took at Margaret out only to replace her with Jeremy who apparently is Elena’s doped up brother. And Bonnie? Bonnie Mccullough with out red curls? Bonnie NOT being short, pale skinned, and childlike? WTF? As far as Stefan goes I’m fine with who the casted. He’s not exactly how I pictured him, but He’ll do. Damon on the other hand bothers me. I think the could have done better. But I’ll get over it…

It is ALWAYS a pet peeve of mine when books are made into movies/TV shows and directors, producers, casting people, etc. don’t bother to get casting details right. The fact that the girl playing Elena has brown hair and brown eyes really irritates me. Could they not find a suitable blonde-haired blue-eyed girl for the part?? I mean, it’s nothing personal against the actors, but SERIOUSLY. And Bonnie is supposed to be this red-haired freckle-faced girl! The only casting I like is Damon. I think he is perfect. He fits the book descriptions to a tee. I mean, I get. Sometimes, they have to make plot adjustments to make thigs work on-screen and whatnot, but hair color and eye color? C’MON! At least make the girl get contacts and dye her hair or something! Sheesh. The fact that her eyes are a shade of blue Stefan has only seen once before (Katherine’s eyes were the same shade) is a big deal. They’d better make Katherine a brunette with brown eyes too. I will give the show a chance, but I go into it not expecting it to be anything like the books.

3.No four-year-old Margaret. but a 15 yr brother who is pot head sex addict.
4.Meredith she was my fav.

You have look-a-likes by having Nina Dobrev play both characters. In the TV series, Katherine is brunette with brown eyes, just like Elena.

i think ian and paul are fine as damon and stefan; they are both pretty good-looking and i think they fit the despcription in the book pretty well. with these 2 characters NOBODY’S going to agree regardless of the actor b/c everybody has a different version in their head of what stefan and damon are supposed to look like.

Yes elena is supposed to be blonde but whatever. it’s not a big deal. i love Nina dobrev in degrassi and she’s a geat actress but my only problem with heris the fact that watching th teaser for the show, she doesn’t have the personality of elena. Stefan fell for elena not only b/c of her similarity to katherine but that she had a strong personality such as a white tigress as he compared her. tv show elena seems too sweet and innocent and more like katherine than elena.

i have to agree about the bonnie thing though. she is so opposite of her actual character it’s really sad. tv show bonnie looks more like meredith to me and she doesn’t seem physic looking either. but w/e

Here’s what I think:

1) The series on tv is WAY better than the actual books itself. The plot line in the book was boring to me, it had no real adventure, and the adventure it did have seemed stupid and shallow. \There’s something dark following me blah blah blah I have a bad feeling blah blah blah DIARY TIEM! OH NO!\ lame. I think the series has a much more complex plot and honestly is way better. I would have much rather read the book on the series than the original book. They made vampire diaries a hit show, and had they kept it the same as the book it would’ve been dumb.

2) I am, however, disappointed about Elena. I don’t think that the actress the picked can act very well at all. It just reminds me of my hate for Kristin Stewart, which is not good at all. I think the personality of the characters is different completely too. I didn’t miss the fact that she was blonde, however, I think they should’ve picked someone who resembled what we all pictured while reading the book.

3) Damon. He is perfect. Not only is he hot, he’s talented. He plays the character so well, it’s insane. For those of you who said he couldn’t pull it off, just watch his facial expressions and intonation when he’s acting. It’s brilliant, really. I believe him everytime he comes on the screen, because he has the ability and talent to make me.

4) Stefan. I couldn’t careless quite frankly. Relationships like Elena and Stefan’s make me barf a little bit. I don’t think that he was the picture fit for Stefan, but I do believe that he has proven that he deserves to be Stefan.

5) Bonnie. I like Bonnie, I think she’s pretty and a good actress. I pictured her differently in the book though.

6) Same with Caroline.

7) Meredith, who cares? Like we needed another cliche in this story anyway.

8) Jeremy. He’s hot. Period. That’s what they intended to do. The series wouldn’t have been as interesting without him, and right when they made that change it was evident that the plot would be different.

9) Aunt Judith, eh again don’t really care.

10) Everything else, I support the people who made the series one hundred percent even since the beginning. Thank you for giving me something interesting to watch and write about on Facebook :D
