If you’re one of the fans who emitted squeals when laying eyes on Stefan’s and Damon’s boyish flashback locks (and Katherine’s voluminous ones) for the first time (let the record state that the first Lost Girls flashbacks stills emerged on October 5, 2009, and your humble V-D.net co-runner came down with a raging case of what is known as “Flail-y Hands”), then you have a two people in particular to thank: hair stylist Randa Squillacote and hair stylist/Vampire Diaries Hair Dept. head Daniel Curet.
A week ago, Mr. Curet tweeted TVD’s Emmy FYC ad for Outstanding Hairstyling in a Single-Camera Show for Children of the Damned, and yesterday followed up with scans of two new magazine features. The first is an interview with Curet from the June 2010 issue of American Salon and the second is a two-page spread, written by Curet, from Artisan, the official trade magazine of the Make-up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild. Both pieces touch on the inspiration behind the flashback looks (Curet cites the film Cold Mountain as a major influence), as well as the ’50s-themed dance of Unpleasantville (I Love Lucy, Lena Horne).
Huge thanks to @dancur for giving us permission to repost the scans. (The American Salon scan is actually bigger than the one originally posted, as I tracked down a copy.) As always, you can click the images to see bigger versions in our Gallery.
