According to CovNews.com, a local news source for the Newton County area, the Vampire Diaries will begin filming in Covington, Georgia on the 21st July, 2009 through to April (2010).
Warner Brothers representatives spoke at Monday’s city council meeting to let the city know its plans and receive tentative permission to film on the square, and on Floyd and Washington streets among other downtown locales.

And for those of you interested in random Vampire Diaries trivia, Covington happens to be the name of the town in Louisiana where Ian Somerhalder (Damon) was born.

It also clarifies that the Vampire Diaries is currently set for 12 episodes with room to extend it to more should the show prove successful. We’ll keep our fingers crossed.
