First of all, today (well, technically tomorrow, but whatever) marks the one month countdown to the Vampire Diaries premiere, which airs on September 10th on the CW. We’ve added a little countdown to the sidebar on the right for a bit of fun.
People.com has posted “Five Things to Know About TV’s Hottest New Vampire“, a short-but-sweet article about Paul Wesley in which acting, pointy teeth, and the show are talked about. We have to give a shout out to his little sisters for reading the books – we hope they liked them! Also, we can guarantee that his family aren’t his only fans.
Korbi Ghosh from Zap2it caught up with Ian Somerhalder for a brief chat. That link could be considered spoilery if you have any idea about the cast and characters (or have seen the pilot), but from a non-spoilery perspective it’s starting to look like Damon may well be set to steadily work his way through the population of Mystic Falls, leaving quite a few disheveled ladies in his wake.
There’s an audio snippet of Kevin Williamson at the TCA panel over on Hollywood Outbreak. It’s a section we’ve posted about in text format before, in which KW explains that the Vampire Diaries isn’t just a teen show but more of a small town show that will develop the mythology in the books.
In set news, it looks like the body count starts here. Michael Trevino teased followers on Twitter with a picture of the Mystic Falls coroner’s van. Given the potential death toll (dare we say it could give Sunnydale a run for its money?), we have to wonder if they’ll be needing to purchase another van for the Mystic Falls coroner’s office before the season ends?
GMMR and Ducky talk about the Vampire Diaries in their TV Talk podcast, briefly discussing the fact that they enjoyed the pilot (the term ‘guilty pleasure’ crops up) and the ‘swoonworthy’ nature of Paul Wesley. They’re planning on discussing it in more depth in their Fall TV podcast. The Vampire Diaries discussion starts at the 32:30 mark for those who want to skip ahead to it.
The Television Without Pity Tubey Awards are underway, and the Vampire Diaries TV series is up for ‘Most Anticipated New Show of the 2009-10 Season’. Go and cast your votes in the polls. You can find the TVD poll under the ’9-10′ tab.
Sally from Australia sent us an email to say that Freeview channel GO! – who will be airing the Vampire Diaries in Australia later this year (though still no specific dates) – has now launched, and they’re airing adverts for the series on a pretty regular basis.
Vampire Diaries fans Rachel and Andrea have been busy channeling their love for the series creatively by making some awesome t-shirts. Do we have any other fans out there with a similar crafty flair?

Caption Competition Update:
We’d just like to remind you all that you have until Friday to enter our caption competition to win some Vampire Diaries Comic Con goodies. Judging from some of the entries, we get the impression we may not have been clear enough with what the caption competition is, so we’ve updated the post to explain the concept some more and to provide an example of a caption for you.
Because some people might not have understood what we were asking for in this contest we’ve decided that participants are welcome to change their caption to something else if they’ve already submitted one to us. No worries if you’re happy with what you submitted, but we feel it’s only fair to give people the option.
