She didn’t want to be turned. Taking someone’s choice to be a vampire or not away
is something Damon should be familiar with, as Stefan basically took that choice
away from him. Damon should have known better. Just because Damon is 168 years
old doesn’t make his choices better than a much younger Elena’s. He’s a
vampire, remember. His choices are laced with his vampirical nature. It
doesn’t put him in a position to make life-choices for anyone else. Don’t get
me wrong, I love Damon, but bad move on his part with the force-feeding of the
    blood.

First off, I don’t idealize his character, both Damon and Stefan are amazing characters with great depth to them. Second, I know Elena was scared, she expressed that many a time, and I know Stefan knew that also. But if he had forced her to do anything she didn’t want to, she most likely would have gone in the opposite direction. She wasn’t considering turning herself over to Klaus for nothing. She was seriously considering it for a decent reason. She wasn’t just saving vampires, but her family and friends, people. People who she loves. And Stefan knew that if the situation were reversed, he would be doing the same things Elena did. That’s why he was so reluctant to make her do something she didn’t believe she had to. Stefan is in no way a weak character. Just because he is compared to Damon and other vampires who are more decisive and motivated doesn’t mean his character isn’t strong. Of course the writers want Stefan to come across more as the good brother who isn’t looking for any confrontation; this emphasises the opposites that are Damon. And he is in no way Elena’s “servant”, he just happens to be one of the few boyfriends out there (fictional albeit) who genuinely respects his girlfriend’s emotions, and actions – even though he doesn’t always see eye-to-eye with her.

And I understand that you’re ‘Team Damon’ but I love these characters too much to even think about picking teams. They’re two different characters who are both seen as strong and weak in their own different ways. And I agree with Amy views, if you’re going to call someone spineless, Damon should be the one you’re talking about.

Dude. Is that Caroline jumping into bed with Tyler?? O_o

Your theory about Klaus and Stefan being related sounds really plausible.  Remember in Season 1 after Katherine compelled Stefan for the first time, she said something to the effect that she couldn’t wait for Stefan to see what she had in store for the three of them, her, Stefan and Damon?  May be she didn’t just happen upon the Salvatore brothers; there’s something about them that fits into a greater scheme?  Maybe she turned them not only because she loved them, but she needed them, too.

If Klaus wants to create his own “army” of hybrids, what would that process be?  It would be different from turning a vampire, right?

You explained your point really well. :)

I always thought that Stefan could have done something, he didn’t even have any kind of a plan and he really could have teamed up with Damon from the beginning so that all of this would have gone in a better way. Jenna would have been saved and something of that sort. I still think Stefan lies and Stefan wants to be seen as the good man, but looking at this from your view also makes a lot of sense. Even though Stefan could come up with a plan, he wouldn’t know if Elena would listen and cause she’s whiny like that, she would do something stupid. And that would just worsen things up.

Stefan and Damon really are different characters and shouldn’t be compared against each other as such because both of them form a really important part of the story because of their opposing characteristics and the fact that they are brothers and love each other in spite of what we see on the outside. I do prefer Damon in many ways but I don’t fail to see that there is no Damon without Stefan and vice versa.

  • Maja

    Thank you:)

And I do see what you mean too, but I have to agree, both characters are different, and equally important; you can’t have one without the other.
If everything went the way Stefan wanted, the show wouldn’t last long. The same as if everything went the way Damon wanted. The writers dip into both of their characters to create the outcome and ultimately, they do save Elena:)

Why did Katherine turn Stefan and Damon?  Besides that she loved them, why else did she turn them?  I think S3 might answer that question.  So excited for the new season!

HI Elizabeth- That’s the 10 million dollar question…can Klaus mate & procreate,  or does he have to give a human his blood & kill them? I’m not clear on that, so if anyone knows, please chime in:)

I watched The Sun Also Rises the other night and couldn’t help but notice the similarity between Paul W & Joesph M, particularly when they were at the quarry during the sacrifice ritual…..if the writers want to go that route, I would have to give them an A+ for casting:)

I know there is a tie that binds the Patrovas, The Originals & The Salvatores together….I think we’re going to get a lot of that this season:) I’ve often wondered why Kat turned both the boys…..at the end of S2, I quit trying to guess because the only answer I had was that she loved them both…..but personally, I’m not buying what she’s selling:)

This is sort of in reply to this whole thread. I’m not really sure that just because someone has an unfavorable opinion about a character or some of their actions that it necessarily puts them on the opposite “team.”  ALL of the characters are just a little bit flawed, that’s what drives the conflict that keeps the show interesting and entertaining. We shouldn’t idealize any of them, even if we might find that we relate or identify with the actions of one more than the other. Does that make sense?

  • Anon

I can’t put it better than L.J. Smith herself:

“Headstrong, each wanting their own way, passionate, impatient… She and Damon were alike.”

    Whereas:

“That was what she loved about Stefan…she didn’t need to manage him at all. He was maintenance-free.”

  • Anonymous

I love those lines. Unfortunately she got fired because her employers wanted Elena to be with maintenance-free Stefan.

  • amy

Yes it does make sense and I agree with you.

I don’t idealize Damon. Far from that. But people tend to do idealize Stefan and that really goes on my nerves sometimes because Stefan has done worse things than Damon and people tend to forget that.

  • Anonymous

Ok, maybe I’m being too skeptical because I know quite a few people that remind me of Stefan and that’s probably why I dislike his character. I think he’s gone too far with his redemption quest and is trying to do the right thing even when it’s not the best thing to do. I just don’t think he’d make the same choices if he wasn’t so stricken with guilt.

  • Allessa Singleton

I LOOOOOOVE THIS!! I SOOO CAN’T WAIT FOR THE NEW SEASON!!

  • Allessa Singleton

I agree. Where is Bonnie?? We saw her loverboy Jeremy but where is she?? Is she not a big part of the show?

  • Allessa Singleton

I must agree. Aside from not seeing Bonnie, where is Katherine and Alaric.

And OAN: I hope they bring Elijah back bc he had a certain something with him that gave the season a bit of an UMPH!!

  • Maja

Exactly, at the end of the day, the show wouldn’t work if there was no Stefan; just as it wouldn’t work if there was no Damon.

But Stefan does make one hell of a ripper when he gets going!(:

  • Catherine

I think the ‘let me go’ comment was meant to mean, ‘let me go over the edge’. It would appear Ripper-Stefan is enjoying himself too much!
