The Vampire Diaries Wednesday night re-run spree continues with an encore of last week’s episode, Haunted. And Thursday brings a brand new ep: 162 Candles. Talk about both in the discussion forum, where the back and forth is already in full swing (seems a lot of people aren’t sure what to make of Lexi). Oh, and you can still chime in on the Haunted poll, of course.
If we told you how many hits this humble website receives off “vampire diaries music” keyword searches alone, you’d be more than a bit surprised. Hell, we still boggle at it and we’re total music junkies. TV Guide Magazine has taken note of the show’s unique soundtrack and chats with Julie Plec about the challenges and song choices thus far:
“There’s something about the indie artists that really works well for our vibe,” says co-executive producer Julie Plec, stressing that the tunes heard in Vampire Diaries aren’t just background music, but help advance the romance and drama of Damon, Elena and Stefan.
What’s your favorite song from the series so far? (Our picks? Red loved Sea Wolf’s “You’re a Wolf” from Friday Night Bites and the Submarines’ “Brightest Hour” during Bonnie’s candle-lighting scene in Family Ties. I personally loved White Lies’ “Death” from the pilot, and I especially liked how the Black Keys’ “Strange Times” and that Moby cover of New Order’s “Temptation” were used in Friday Night Bites. Actually, we’re both in agreement that FNB has the overall best songlist. Agree? Disagree?) Props to series music supervisor, Chris Mollere.
Marcos Siega announced that Liz Friedlander – who’s also been known to direct a music video or two, including one for Blink-182 – will be taking over TVD directing duties. We believe she’ll be helming episode 11 (#110).
And, finally, TV Guide’s Mega Buzz has a “WTF?” tidbit about an upcoming character development that’s sure to set all of you buzzing for all sorts of different reasons (please don’t forget your spoiler tags in the comments!):
Witches and vampires aren’t the only supernatural creatures in Mystic Falls. It won’t be right away, but a major male character will reveal himself to be a werewolf. And don’t think having read the books will help you figure this one out. In fact, the werewolf in question won’t even know he’s a werewolf, initially at least.

I knew Michael Trevino was aware his character was a werewolf, but I didn’t think they would develop it so soon.

With the overall changes to the show, I wouldn’t be surprised if Matt turned out to be the culprit. :-/

I agree with the previous comment…only because his character wasn’t in the books and I feel like they can make him whatever they want him to be.

No, Jeremy can’t be a werewolf; that’s just too random and bizarre. I mean, isn’t it? Plus, that would mean that Elena would have to be a werewolf, too, right? *is seriously flabbergasted*
BTW, I think that introducing werewolves too soon, and having it be a major male character besides Tyler is going to invite even more Twilight comparisons, especially since it’s deviating from the book storyline in a big way

i really hope its Matt. it would be such a great storyline for him and plus I havent really read the books but werewolves dont feed on humans so his future wouldnt be like vicki. Hopefully he would want to go after the salvatores. A little more action would be fun

Hmmm…I’m thinking it might be Matt who turns out to be a werewolf. That would be really awesome. Plus, I want to see one of the good guys be a werewolf, not that douchebag Tyler; casts a bad light on the awesomeness that is werewoles. I hope the werewolf comes into play soon, ’cause they are so much better than vampires.
On a different note, my favorite song so far is “Sleep Alone” by Bat For Lashes from Haunted, no contest.

Having Matt be a werewolf would make it to similar to Twilight with the “other guy” in the girl’s life and would be drawn to attention for that similarity. I like the fact that Matt is the normal guy anyway. We certainly need balance in the cast. They are deviating from the books but Tyler’s actor has already hinted to us about being a werewolf to the book readers in a previous radio interview. Though there is that chance that they could have changed it.

I loved Placebo “Running Up That Hill” [In the boarding house with Stefan and Zach] and White Lies “Death” [Stefan arrives at the party] from the Pilot.
Then Sara Bareilles “Gravity” [Elena and Stefan reconcile and share their first kiss] from Night of the Comet.
And Bat for Lashes “Sleep Alone” from Haunted.
