Friday Night Bites is a weekly round-up for various tidbits of show and cast/crew news not quite big enough to warrant a blog post, not strictly Vampire Diaries-related, or that somehow just fell through the cracks. Please insert theme song by Explosions in the Sky here and enjoy.

Congratulations to Damon Salvatore for topping the list of the Top 50 Vampires 2012!

Miss Katherine Pierce comes in at number 6 (unfortunately with a photo of Elena, rather than the minx herself), and Klaus at 7, while Stefan is number 15. Unfortunately, Vampire Barbie is not on the list :(

Paul was never “mediocre”!!!! :( Wow, whoever wrote that must be watching a different show to me…The Vampire Diaries is AMAZING and so are all the actors.

AYO! Stefan coming at 15, then Klaus beating Edward Cullen (take that, twilight!) at 7, Miss Katerina Petrova at 6, and Damon beating Angel, Spike, AND Eric Northman for the #1 spot! Congrats, Damon baby, you deserved it. Salvatore as in Savior, indeed. Finally TVD and Damon Salvatore get some well deserved praise and recognition.

I was happy to see TVD dominate in the vampire list :) I wish Stefan could’ve taken Edward Cullen’s place, though!

Paul Wesley needs more lovin’ <3

I really wish the Racialious article was brought as an actual sticky not just part of the Friday Night Bites. No disrespect, but that article is really important and a lot more people feel this way but have been made to feel as though they don’t have a voice. And as a person of multi-ethnic backgrounds it being glossed over as a soundbite rather than a feature piece is a bit unsettling. It was insightful, got to the point and was in no way jarring . I think its important to acknowledge, even for TVD.

As much as I like to watch Damon in his glass shower *long sigh*, in this picture he doesn´t look like a vampire at all. Why didn´t they show him with red eyes and blood dripping down his (beautiful) lips.
Anyway, congratulations Damon (Ian), Edward Cullen will have to run for his money! *woot, woot*

…what duckie? I can’t see anything, am I blind or just stupid and have no idea what a duckie is?

  • Mairead

I was surprised at what a good article it was.  Tough subject, well handled.  I agree, should be it’s own post.

  • Anonymous

Yeah, great article.  It justified how offended I am that they are bring in an love interest for Bonnie.  Even if I could get over the messages that they are sending on that issue, and try to pretend they are trying to give someone to “talk to”, I still can’t get over the fact that they are giving a boyfriend before they are giving her a father( and I am cool if B’s father isnt black).  Just so I can get it out now, I am going to be totally pissed if Bonnie doesnt get to wear a pretty dress in the Ball episode, but I guess I should be grateful that she is not serving the drinks.  This article only added to my hate of Elena.  It also justified my belief that Bonnie is Elena’s bitch.

  • James_Evers

That’s why a lot of times the friendship is hard for viewers to buy. The first time Elena or anyone besides Damon once, said thank you to Bonnie for her powers. One time and that was for lighting birthday candles? So how are we not to view it as servitude in the south. Maybe there’s an assumption that all viewers will overlook it but that’s not true.

Its not hard at all to believe Caroline and Bonnie are friends but everyone has to walk on eggshells with Elena. It doesn’t help that when somethings going on with one of her friends, especially Bonnie in the last episode, Elena was more preoccupied to her own machinations than to make sure Bonnie, who she saw was kidnapped and knocked out was okay. The stuff with Stefan could’ve waited, but no it had to relate to Elena’s love problems.

  • M. Cobb

Oh okay, after clicking the link to the tweet, I see it now lol.

I think Caroline is the only one on the show that has Bonnie’s back, somewhat.
-I was really pissed at Elena last season when Damon told Elena that he would gladly trade Bonnie’s life for hers.  And Elena just stood there and batted her eyes. I will never forgive Elena for that and I will never forgive Damon.  Damon has a right to risk his life for the goddess Elena but he does not have a right to risk someone else.  Don’t get me started of how Emily was treated.

the person who said paul wesley’s acting is mediocre needs to be stabbed with a wooden stake :|

I agree that Car and Bonnie are true friends. And you’re right about Damon and Elena and the whole kill Klaus plan.Even if Bonnie wouldn’t die trying to kill him, everyone was so focused on Elena staying alive that they ‘forgot’ that 2 other people would die during the ritual too.Not to mention that Elena was so determined to die that she ‘forgot’ she had a brother  who would be without any family left. The only thing that mattered to her was that things would go down her way even if it meant her dying permanently if the elixir didn’t work.God forbid Elena becomes a vampire, that would be the real tragedy;a self destructive teenager losing his sister not so much.

Agreed. Paul Wesley’s acting has never been the problem. He’s done as good a job as it is possible to do with this character. In a lesser actor’s hands I think Stefan would have been unwatchable. The problem is the writing.

Oh, dont get me started.  I would have paid money to see Matt push her ass off that bridge in Our Town.  I will have compassion for Elena for losing her parents but she still has her brother and the entire town acting as her guardian.  How does she look Matt in the face and tell him how her life sucks because she is in love with vampires?! Really, Matt? Matt’s mom breezed into town slept with his best friend, made out with Damon and left town after his sister was killed!! Matt doesnt have a guardian and we led to believe that Matt raised his sister alone.  And poor Matt would have to go on Maury to findout who his father is but his life doesnt suck like Elena’s life? Really?

  • Addicted to TVD

Yeah,Matt has had a really sad life :( But even Matt (the last human in MF) is a more developed character than Bonnie.I get it ;she’s new at this witch stuff,so please bring a mentor for her on the show. Her continuing incompetence is really frustrating. And now that I mention it,Sheila warned her not to get involved with the Original Vampire business but she didn’t listen to her. This is going o end well for everyone!

  • Anonymous

True.  And for all those in fandom that were upset about all the witches on the show being Black, isnt nice that the writers made sure that the most powerful witch of them all is not. I think the Original Witch trumps all the Bennett so……….  She will probably end up killing Bonnie off the show.

  • Addicted to TVD

I hate the Original Witch by the way!She hurt Klaus!

  • Anonymous

If Klaus killed her, he had a good reason.  I have decided to go darkside completely. I am now Team Elaus, long live the Originals.

  • Addicted to TVD

Me too!Team Klaus all the way!Rebekah can blame Mikael all she wants for turning them into vampires, but it was Esther who cast the spell! Not to mention an innocent family got killed because of her!

And she turned her back on her own child to keep her husband. Hello, who had the affair?  I hope Klaus wakes her up and kills her again.  The parents on this show.

Hi guys! The Racialicious article was posted to FNB instead of on its own because we’ve done solo posts on the issue before. It’s a well done piece and we really liked it, but it had no new interviews or insight from actors or writers or anything like that.  After 2.5 seasons, we try really hard to strike a balance between sharing interesting things with the fans and being repetitive, so we use FNB to bridge the gap. :)

  • Anonymous

Actually, I had no problem with you guys not posting that here.  It has a really different vibe than what is usually posted.  You made us aware of it, and that was enough for me.  So, thanks:)

congrats to everyone who made in the list specially to DAMON SALVATORE…

  • TVD*fan

This is great!! thanks for posting!

Actually, I do think this piece was quite accurate. Although I don’t agree on Nina Dobrev’s performance as Elena which is way better than said, she really is better as Katherine. As for Wesley, his performance has been rather boring for two season. At some point, I thought he had only one facial expression whereas during season three, he really shows his talent. And we have to face the fact that some actors are not that good (Kat Graham, I’m looking at you, if you can pull of wonderful acting in 218, I’m sure you can do it in every episode) and Somerhalder is the better actor, delivering every line with utmost perfection, completely keeping intact his character while always going in different directions depending on the scene.

  • AlyciaJade93

On a purely England related note, how the bejebus did Ian Somerhalder not come 1st in Heat’s 101 Hottest Hunks!!

    He came 23rd!! 23rd!!

    Just to reiterate twenty-friggin’-third!!

And these are the people who came BEFORE him…

    1. David Beckham…no…just no…
    2. Ryan Gosling…mediocre at best…
    3. Ryan Reynolds…okay, he’s fit, but not THAT fit…
    4. Bradley Cooper…average…
    5. Jake Gylenhaal…whatttt??
    6. Robert Pattinson…sparkle vomit…
    7. Tom Hardy…yuck…
    8. Johnny Depp…sorry…don’t get it…
    9. Hugh Jackman…hell to the fricken’ no!!
    10. Zac Efron…gross…
    11. George Clooney…another I just DON’T see the appeal of…
    12. Harry Judd…okay…get it, but still no way is he fitter…
    13. Gary Barlow…ewwww…
    14. Adam Levine…again, noooo…
    15. Gerard Butler…seriously?!
    16. James Franco…not even in a nerdy kinda way…
    17. Taylor Lautner…chest, yes…face, nope…
    18. Harry Styles…what is the big deal with him?!
    19. Brad Pitt…look he was fit(not smolderhalder fit)but not now…
    20. Orlando Bloom…ick…ick…ick…
    21. Justin Timberlake…really?! Please…
    22. Olly Murs…has officially come to the conclusion the voters in this poll were blind and am now ashamed to call myself British…

Sorry, it just really bugged me…and the fact that NONE of the other TVD boys were even ON the list is just…gah…

Anyway, that’s my rant of the day over, I’ll just quietly slip away back into obscurity…
