The CW has started filtering out these AWESOME new Season 4 promo pics and we’re going to start with Caroline, Tyler, and Klaus. Seriously, the detail on these portraits – we’re going to be analyzing them for hours. Can’t wait to see the rest of the set! The Vampire Diaries returns this Thursday, October 11th, 8/7c on the CW. Click each image to view a larger version in the Gallery. What do you think? Does this hold up to last year’s fruit portraits?

Loose n’ dirty translation of the Latin on each portrait, Klaus – Blood is power, Caroline – Love is sacrifice, Tyler – Love has/holds me. (This could be in the sense of “love carries me” or “love possesses me” . . . interesting.)

Ooo! I like these a lot!  Maybe even more than the fruit portraits from last year, or at least equal too.   In the cast photo and in this one, Caroline is looking like quite the Temptress only now she is holding a goblet of blood, which is dripping over her fingers with the Latin words “Love is Sacrifice”.  Klaus with a very elitist commanding look while holding a snake (representation of the devil?) with an apple imbedded into the lace over his head, which must represent the “fruit of the vampire bloodline” with the Latin words “Blood is power”.
    (chills! chills!  chills!)

There is blood on the lace of the portraits of Klaus and Tyler, which may represent them dueling over Caroline.  I have no idea what Tyler has on his shoulder ….looks like some kind of winged insect.

These portraits look very “old school” with the lace and Latin words.  I would definitely say there will be more Klaus & Caroline.  Will Caroline ultimately give into Klaus to protect Tyler, or because she will actually start to care for Klaus?

I think I must be one of the only people that doesn’t really like these pictures that much. I don’t like the cheap-looking paper doily effect nor the gratuitous Latin. The photos themselves look okay though.

    Mmmm, no. Just….no.

I don’t know…I kind of like them. My favorite so far is of Klaus. Love the snake….you know, snake = serpent…and we all know what the serpent represents;) The one of Caroline reminds me of Elizabeth I….I know, I know, Elizabeth had red hair…but still, Caroline’s does remind me of that. Can anyone tell me why Tyler has a bug on his shoulder?

Anyway, it’s different for sure… the use of Latin. That’s interesting….it makes me think of “olden times”.

I really like Caroline’s. The “Love is sacrifice” and the cup flowing with blood, really beautiful. I’m not really that into Tyler and Klaus’s.  I would have loved to seen wolves or something with them, not an ambiguous insect and a snake. Especially the insect. But these are really different images, and no other show has anything like it, so overall I like it.

    I absolutely love the portraits..!!

  • Shannon

I only like Caroline’s picture out of the three of them.

  • Alexis Hiddleston

I think the pictures would have been better if they didn’t have the lace around them. But the words are still good.
