The CW has released the official synopsis for The Vampire Diaries: Home (EP522), aka as the Season 5 finale, airing Thursday, May 15th at 8/7c. Highlight for spoilers:

AN EXPLOSIVE SEASON FINALE — Heartbroken by an unexpected tragedy, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) is focused on holding himself together, while pushing Bonnie (Kat Graham) harder than ever to find a way to stop the disintegration of the Other Side. Elena (Nina Dobrev) takes matters into her own hands and demands that Liv (guest star Penelope Mitchell) and Luke (guest star Chris Broshu) help her, but Liv refuses to cooperate until Caroline (Candice Accola) provides her with some personal motivation. Sheriff Forbes (guest star Marguerite MacIntyre) is horrified when Markos (guest star Raffi Barsoumian) uses violence against Tyler/Julian (Michael Trevino) to prove that Mystic Falls is now under the control of the Travelers. With new information from Sheriff Forbes, Damon comes up with a dangerous plan that relies on split-second timing from Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) and Matt (Zach Roerig). Liv’s off-hand remark regarding Stefan (Paul Wesley) gets a surprisingly emotional response from Caroline. As conditions on the Other Side worsen, Bonnie takes the opportunity to settle an old score. Finally, Damon’s plan causes a massive explosion in Mystic Falls, and everyone is caught up in the confusion, leaving a trail of heroism, sacrifice, relief and despair.

The episode was directed Chris Grismer and written by Caroline Dries and Brian Young.

if stefan is the one that died in the end it will be the end for me too watching tvd will never watch season 6 this synopsis has delena fan service written all over it and this will be my last series of a bad tv series.

  • Melissa

It does have Stefan died written all over it huh. But I’m 100% sure that they find a way to save him and get him back. I want to see Damon cry for his brother I’m tired of the triangle thing. Time for the Salvatore duo to activate their “Wonder Twin” powers :-)

  • ShawnaEJ

I can’t remember exactly how the books went…but I see the exploration of that other dimension coming into season 6. I feel one of the brothers, whether Damon or Stefan, is somehow getting put on to the Other Side or into this new place…and the beginning of next season will be trying to get them back.

  • Melissa

A part of me is thinking that if Stefan is dead Damon is going to give his all to get him back or take his place. Damn these next few episodes are going to be intense.

  • b_again

thats what am saying, ont want him dead even if he has to come back, why him all the time? last season finale he was stuck in a box under water dying like 1million times and if the do that again i feel like they are just witting fan fiction cuz of the stills for the finale, i saw those terrible couple getting close again and it just makes me sick

  • Rhen

    I Agree. That’s Nice! Can’t wait for Season 6.

  • TVDFanForever

Where is Stefan in this episode? There is nothing mentioned about him in the synopsis!!

  • Melissa

So who watched last night’s episode? Well at least we know that Damon is struggling to cope with the loss of his bestie as opposed to his brother. I’m happy about that, alas, I fear for the fate of Damon now. He has this self loathing thing going on and as much as I don’t like it I believe he may switch… situations with Enzo :(

  • Kool Charm

What do you expect? It has been Delena since season 4, and writers make it no secret DE is the central “romance” of the series (hopefully it ends in s6, or ppl will go nuts). Quit it while you can, or you will regret wasting another year.

This is shaping up to be a real tear jerker…Break out the Tissues, I may be forced to turn my humanity off all summer long.

I love Stefan’s character too but just look at how wonderful Stefan’s development was after he got out of the trunk. Even though he was drowning over and over he still didn’t turn off his humanity and he’s now he has fully accepted his ripper side and it no longer controls him. Conversely look at how horrible Damon deals with adversity! The one thing that is for sure is that Stefan’s character can handle anything so I don’t mind all this crap they throw at him because he can take it.

I think Damon would be the one to
die and go to the other side, based on the synopsis about him going thru an
unexpected tragedy and teaming up with Bonnie to prevent it from
disintegrating, and I agree with you that that would be one of their main plots
at the beginning of season 6, trying to get these people back from the other
side or from this new place.

  • Kali995

I see your point but if he’s heartbroken by an unexpected tragedy it won’t be because he’s dead and on the other side but in my opinion, someone who he really love must have died. The only two people he loves and cares about their well being are Stefan (whether Damon shows it or not it’s a fact) and Elena.I think it would be Stefan that dies because it isn’t mentioned anything about him or it’s possible that he’s doing something spoilery. Also, the photos about the episode are worrying and look depressive.

  • Jennifer2667

Yeah, I think S6 will have some book tie-in by having Elena, Damon, Caroline, maybe another character go to the underworld, or whatever the final destination will be called, to save Stefan. Many people are saying it will be Damon who dies this season, but in the books they save Stefan and Damon dies in the process (although not really). Not that they’ll follow the book formula but it fits the TV show that Damon would die to save Stefan. Then the rest of the characters will be above-ground helping re-build MF and presumably facing more traveler problems or maybe escapees from the other side? Not sure.

I’m not sure that Enzo’s death qualifies as the “unexpected tragedy.” My take on this after looking at all the info. is that Stefan dies somehow near the end of Ep. 5.21 w/ Caroline as witness; & goes to the Other Side. Damon will stop at nothing to get him back. If you picked up on the dialog in the last scene in 5.19, Damon told Stefan he loved him in a back door manner when he was talking about how Enzo defended Stefan during their captivity. The question is how they will have left things before whatever I believe will happen to Stefan. I think Damon will quickly learn that Enzo has died & under what circumstances, so if he & Stefan don’t resolve things … that’ll be truly heartbreaking unless & until they can get back together.
I don’t read the books & would not expect them to follow the books. What we also know is that there will be at least 3 permanent deaths; the characters will be separated in some way as S5 ends; and that S6 will be about getting them back together. Show runners have said that this is the end of the Other Side per se, so no one will be going there after a certain point and all current inhabitants will go somewhere else.

  • Cheryl12

‘Tis a puzzlement. No question Damon would die to save Stefan, but the way I read it is that E & S are separated from Damon & Caroline during/after the cabin experience. S & E end up in some remote location after escaping Markos’s clutches. At some point Stefan dies. Where Damon is while all this happens is a mystery. So it looks like whatever Damon & CO. do in MF related to this explosion will either release Stefan (and who knows who else) in 5.22 _or_ like you said S6 will see Damon & perhaps others going to the “final destination” to get S. back.

Damon cares deeply for his brother so i hope thats not the tragedy and his heart is always in the right place when he is trying to help people he loves .and hes been through so much and yet he always handles it so well .I dont believe with all the plot lines this has been the Delena show at all .i wish they had stayed together and been given more meaningful scenes .just my opinion .

  • Cheryl12

I hope that’s not the tragedy, too, but I think by process of elimination that something happens to Stefan. And it certainly appears that he dies. That would line up w/ some of the official stills.

  • Marianadelena

on the books damon is the one who dies

  • Ima Marx

Is Stefan not going to get terribly hurt and they donknow if he is going to make it tcan also be a unaxpected tragedy i really dont know whats going to happen but it going to be said stefan can take everything maeybe he saves elena life and that is when he gets hurt or dies dont know but damowill get him back that i know for sure

  • BRANDEE VENSON

I believe Stefan is going to die because what other heartbreak could Damon have. Stefan has been through so much and I feel so sorry for him because he is such an great guy. and I do to wish they would have gave Damon and Elena better moments, I don’t see why they made them a couple if they weren’t going to let it last I feel sad for Damon as well. I want so bad for Caroline and Stefan together, but at the same time I love their bff relationship I don’t want that to ever get damaged…. and man I’m also a little upset about Tyler I really wanted him to be tough and have more of a storyline but they just keep making him look like a punk… sorry but I loved his character in season 1 and 2 now its just like euuhhh, still have hope for him.

  • Ember Khan

Well, if he dies this time, it would mean he wouldn’t feel anything after he dies. I’ll take that over the last season finale, with him dying over and over. Can someone please fire Plec?!

  • InewtoTVD

*BOOK SPOILER* Yes Damon does die and he comes back. However the end of the TVD book series Stefan dies. For real. The show doesn’t stay exactly with the books. So I think it’s safe to say Stefan will come back.
