Hi Diana, last year quite a few of us, “older fans” gave our ages.  Believe me when I say that there are alot of us.  LOL   The Vampire Diaries is by far the best show on TV and have fans of all ages.  Your taste in TV shows…excellent!  Funny thing though Damon scenes really don’t make me cry.  Now when Stefan cries…I’m reaching for the tissues and cry like a baby.  Gee…wonder why? LOL

  • Guest

I’m happy to hear that TVD appeals to such a wide age range but could we please get back to the episode discussion?

  • eve

Hi wednesday75, your dad has great taste!  It’s too bad your mom didn’t like the show.  But, like you said at least she’s not a traitor.  LOL

  • Anonymous

Hi Diana, there´s nothing wrong about dreaming about Damon or Stefan or Eliljah …, no matter what age. The TVD actors do a great job. They don´t only look great, they deliver perfect performances week for week. Johnny Depp forms characters on movie sreens and does that once a year. They do it 18 hours a day, 30 months a year and don´t do it less perfect.
The harder times are the more people crave for distraction. And the TVD cast gives that perfectly.
I´m completely on your side with Ian´s performance at the end of  “The Descent”. It was unbelievable (Stefan´s fight against the compulsion when he had to feed on Elena was similar intense ) And if we think that they often do those scenes all day long, I can imagine that this is not only physically but especially mentally extremely exhausting.
That´s why I was so happy, that Damon wasn´t hit, pushed around or lectured in this episode (well Mikael almost killed him) He had great scenes and I loved them.

  • Guest

    Thomas Galvin’s recap:

Elena Gilbert: …You’re exhausting. Wanna watch me fall asleep?Damon Salvatore: Boy do I!Edward Cullen: It doesn’t count if she knows you’re there.

  • dman

You have a point, but ultimately the majority of people are always going to judge irregardless of the situation that they are in. It’s just human nature. The fact that TVD is a television show and it deals with supernatural characters has limited relevance. It is still being watch by human beings who will judge according to their own standards. I watch the show and enjoy it and am willing to accept that supernatural beings should be given a moral margin, but I feel that there are certain lines that should not be crossed. For example, the bar scene in Ordinary people. Damon brings a girl for Stefan to drink from. Ok, that is a normal vampire behavior. Now, if Damon were to kill that girl after they fed, that to me would be unnessesary and wrong of him because of his changed character. He is considered a “good” vampire now so I would judge him in relation to that status. If Stefan on the other hand were to kill that girl, I would not pass the same judgment on him because he is considered a “bad” vampire now and randomly killing people should be expected. It would still upset me if he killed her, but I would accept it.

Moral discussions are healthy in the TVD environment because  the characters, like in the real world, are capable of good and evil. And because of that premise, we as viewers, will judge them accordingly.

Good evening DianaPauline. I am 46 years since Monday. I’ve always loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Harry Potter and now TVD.

  • Anonymous

Yeah, I know, some of my thoughts are not PC and dang these guys are younger than my sons.  But am having a ball with these shows.  I miss Smallville and Justin Hadley(Green Arrow and he was on Chuck last night), love both Winchester brothers and Misha(Castiel) is missed. Also watch Fringe, Being Human(both of them), Teen Wolf, White Collar and went to see In Time just because Matt Bomer was in it..Sigh.

I used to cry buckets with my first vampire love, Spike and now that is transferred to Damon.  He hurts or cries so do I and I think the most after The Descent was in The Return when Kat told him she never loved him it was always Stefan, the look on his face and that little sigh, had me bawling.  It is going to be hard for an ep to get better than The Descent for me, that was Emmy material.

Hi DianaPauline, Iansfan, shila, rehabber, eve and so on, now I must write having read your last comments. I’m 53 and also addicted to TVD and Damon (sorry eve..) and this site. I read e v e r y comment here and therefore I know you and your preferences well in the meantime. You a l w a y s express exactly my thoughts and feelings and this warms my heart so much knowing outside there are likeminded people. Your english, iansfan and shila, is so good ( I know you are also German), therefore I don’t have to write because you do this job for me and also much better as I could do.
For me also 1×19 MMF was the key to my TVD passion: I will never forget when I came home in the evening on 1st of December 2010 and my daughter just watched TVD in German TV. At the moment I came in the livingroom there was the dancing scene. I couldn’t move or breathe – I was fascinated of that scene and from now on I was the biggest Damon fan, btw my daughter is Stefan fan ( eve, it’s like in your family lol). Then I watched all eps during the christmas holidays ( for you it was during the hated hiatus) and read all the comments on this site, because I had bought Crissy’s book and found therefore this site. The Descent was my first ‘life’ episode then and it’s also still my favourite though we have got many wonderful delena scenes this season. Btw always during this season Ian is hurt or ill: last year he had his pneumonia and this year this torn (cruciate) ligament. Dangerous time for Ian – the month November.Already looking forward to the next ep and your “lovely” (quoting Klaus..lol) comments, many greetings to you my friends!!

  • Anonymous

i agree i dont think Delena are one sided and Damon is just responding to the fact Elena does feel more for him than perhaps she want to acknowledge .Even so i enjoy any scene with Delena whether she turns to him in a romantic way or not she is seeing him in a different light .I say just enjoy the  show and have faith in the writers .i love that they give equal time to Delena and Stelena .Elena is in alot of ways the reason Stefan has his brother back because from the beginning he responded to her kindkness and the fact she showed she cared about him .Please remember Elena has been through so much for someone so young .More than enough .As for Kat i think they are saving that as some sort of big reveal that she is ok .I do wish Elijah was back in the present .Sorry laney this isnt entirely directed at you .Just the part about it not being one sided .

  • eve

Hi GermanTVDfan, your daughter has fantastic taste.  My  personal favorite as far as Delena scenes is the dance they shared.  Have to admit even though I’m 100% Stelena.  Damon did make my heart speed just a little when they first started to dance.  This episode must have made you happy…alot of Delena action….nibbling on her neck…laying in bed.   I’m jealous and miss my Stefan and Elena and whatever happened to there epic love story.

Did you ever see the video I had posted of Stefan & Elena’s best moments? I had posted it under a response to Chelsey in a different article and made a comment for you to look as well, but didn’t know if you ever saw it. Let me know if you didn’t and I will post it for you again.

  • Guest

I’m happy to hear that TVD appeals to such a wide age range but could we please get back to the episode discussion?

  • Guest1234

Yeah, because if you love your brother and you’ll do anything for him, it means you don’t love your gf enough? I don’t understand why people keep comparing love for family with romantic love?!!! It is not even legitimate. So DE is better because Damon obviously loves Elena more than Stefan. Hmmmm…that doesn’t reflect well on Damon, if you ask me.

  • eve

Hi Guest, sorry about that.  I did love this episode.  That was my last comment.

  • eve

Hi wednesday75, I’ll look for it.  Thanks in advance!

  • Anonymous

Here it is. Let me know what you think. This has to be one of the best Stelena videos and my favorite I’ve ever seen! I can’t stop smiling when I watch it. Enjoy =)

@rehabber & shila- You both have excellent taste! Glad to know I’m in such great company! Oliver/Green Arrow. OMG!

  • Anonymous

I’m with you, Damon’s scenes don’t make me cry either EXCEPT in The Descent. Those scenes with Rose and when he kills her, bawl like a baby every time. I’m like you though, when Stefan cries, I cry too!

    Thank you :))

Hello there. It’s been a while. Hasn’t it? Your english isn’t bad. You know how I discovered TVD. In Febr 2010 I  got sick with a very bad case of Mononucleosis (Pfeiffersches Drüsenfieber) and had to stay home 6 weeks. It was then that one of my nephews told me to watch movies on the internet. By coincidence I watched TVD the pilot and that was the beginning of this new passion, in the meantime an addiction :)) I hope next week flies and it is friday morning  again. You have yourself a really nice day! :))

  • Anonymous

I think it’s very nice of you that you gave your mother the DVDs. I’m not an Ebeneezer Scrooge, I lend a lot of films to family and friends. But my TVD dvds! NO NO NO! I sit on them like a hen hatching her eggs. :))

  • Anonymous

I am a Delena fan….I think we will win the battle, but you ‘ll win the war….I ‘m very sad that I’m saying that :(((( Please Delena fans don’t hate me!!! I still have hope!!!!

  • Anonymous

Nice video, but after watching I fail to understand why Stelena fans are always crying about all the Delena scenes?  They don’t even want a hug or a dying kiss, please explain this to me. This whole video was kissing and yes I did enjoy it, love Paul’s smile, but come on give us Damon fans something.

Hi Guest, I know you are a big TVD fan or you wouldn’t be on this site. You have made many fine contributions. Many of us have posted numerous comments discussing “Ordinary People” in depth, and I think at this point we have happily exhausted ourselves!  If some of us choose to now share some more personal comments about ourselves, and what makes us so devoted to the TVD series, and at the same time get to know other fans a little better, is this unacceptable? I admit I am relatively new to this site so if I am wrong about this I am sorry.

  • Anonymous

I agree with you and I enjoy finding out more about other fans, if someone does not care enough to really sign up with a name other than guest, I am not sure how much of a fan they are.  It is very easy to scroll past anything not interesting.

  • Anonymous

HI Iansfan- I’ve been thinking about this and the answer is simple- In order to bring Jer back to life, Bonnie was channeling the power of 100 dead witches…..in this episode, as far as we know, there were only 2 witches present. Also, Ayana said the “spirits were quiet” which meant they refused to help because it went against the balance of nature….

  • Anonymous

Hi DianaPauline: You’re not wrong, and it’s ok….I’m 38 years old with two boys and have been watching TVD since the pilot aired. Since then, I’ve made it my personal mission to be home every Thursday and have all the housework done, the dogs walked, the kids fed, ect…. so I can sit down in peace and watch this show. It’s funny, because I became addicted the moment Damon came to Mystic Falls and gave us that fabulous “Hello Brother”:) Since then, it’s been all things TVD.

My personal favorite episode was The Descent: OMG, I was actually crying so hard I went through a box of tissues (yes, my kids thought I was insane, but that’s ok), my second personal favorite was The Sun Also Rises (once again, a box of tissues was in order), specifically when Elena was reading that letter from Uncle Daddy John and that long look between Damon & Elena- it was like she was taking stock of all she had lost:( And before my Stelena friends get mad at me: I also cried when Stefan broke up with Elena last season: Frankly, I hate it when either one of the Salvatore boys are upset….and I hate it when they fight:( Although, I kinda think Damon did the right thing by trying to knock some sense into Stefan this episode: Stand up and fight back Stefan, you are no slave!!!!!!

All in all, I truly enjoy the spirited discussion that goes on here, I think it’s rather funny how we all eventually agree to disagree, or agree to agree:) Or change our minds after watching the episode for the fifth time….LOL:) Yes, that has been known to happen….I did it after watching this episode for the 4th time…..so, all in all, I think all of us are a little obsessed with this show. Is that a bad thing? Only for my dogs…they really wished I would pay them more attention instead of typing on the computer:)

Hi Canderella: I agree with you in part but in part, I agree with @Iansfan:disqus . What Elena said when she was describing what she learned from Rebekah was this: “She’s just a girl. That she lost he mom to young. She loves blindly & recklessly, even if it consumes her”.

I think she and Damon shared a moment of perfect understanding. I would never describe Elena as reckless, either. But she did loose her mom to young. And then, when you consider her love for Stefan she didn’t know anything about him before she got involved with him. She didn’t demand that he tell her the truth about himself. She let him sugar coat his past for her last season. And she bought it….look at how reckless she’s been with her own life in trying to save him from himself…hunting werewolves on a full moon? Demanding answers from and Original Vampire? For a just turned 18 year old girl, that is blind and reckless.

We know Damon loved Kat blindly & recklessly, that’s a given. We know he had major issues with his father.  The difference is now, he knows it, too. And now he doesn’t blame anyone else for the choices he made. It now knows it was his choice to love her that way.

Rebekah was just a girl, she did loose her mom to soon. And she does follow Klaus blindly, because he is her brother. As we’ve seen, the family bond is strong.

I think Elena is finally growing up:) I think she made the same parallel between herself and Rebekah. I think Damon understands perfectly what Elena was saying, because he’s been there, too. The moment was about understanding, and I think it was perfect:) Where they choose to go from there is anyone’s guess. But it’s nice that they can find comfort in each others friendship:)

Thank you so much VAMPLOVER1973 and rehabber for your replies to me about sharing on this site. And to all TVD fans I want to say that although Damon is my favorite I love Stefan too, and especially the two of them together as brothers. That’s it from me on “Ordinary People”. Can’t wait for next week!

So true, and to be honest, there is almost nothing unimportant on this page and if it were, well nobody must read it. I like to talk to people I know tiny little bits about, that makes every discussion more personal and you can understand people better. So you can easily find a shoulder to cry on if your favourite brother has just got beaten up or his heart has been broken.

  • il_isek

There is absolutely nothing wrong with spreading the love for the show, and to meet other similar fans. That is why there is an entire section dedicated to it in the forums:

    http://forums.vampire-diaries.net/viewforum.php?f=12

Since this thread is created for the reaction and discussion of Ordinary People, people come to this thread to, well…react to and discuss Ordinary People.
I can understand why some would be frustrated by having to scroll through almost an entire page of off-topic posts before they can get to the actual topic. I hope that makes sense.

  • Anonymous

…thanks for your support but don´t stop sharing your thoughts with us, we need every shoulder we can get to cry on, assuming things are not going to be nice and sunny and – to quote Damon – “we are not all lgoing to live in Graceland”! The next terrible “What- the -heck -is -Stefan -doing or-Damon -thinking- moment is around the corner. That´s for sure ;)

This whole balance of nature thing buggs me. Obviously there were witches and werewolves before the vampires. Who defines this balance. You could find arguments against strong witches as well as against strong werewolves. If there were witches from the beginning of mankind, then there were good and bad ones. So who is actually the one who makes all the rules (as to Sheila)? Can a good vampire not be better than a witch that practices dark magic? – Maybe that´s a bit too philosophical at this place, but I was wondering …)

  • il_isek

I’m still wondering about the cave drawings.

Since the promos came out, we’ve analyzed every single frame of the cave drawings to death, but there’s still parts that were not explained in the episode: such as the cactus, the strange thunderbird-man, the war (it didnt seem like much of a war), the mountain range.

Did I miss something in the episode?

  • Anonymous

Damon and Elena’s “sweet pillow talk” was definitely a moment of understanding, trust and comfort in each others friendship.

Elena was reckless and blind in her love for Stefan because she never really knew him.  He hid so much about himself from her.  What is being shown right now regarding his personality is a part of who he is.  Personally, as much as I liked Lexi, she really did not help him.  Stefan never found balance in his nature once becoming a vampire.  It was either all in with the human blood thirst, or it was all bunny blood, guilt and self loathing.  Damon is the one that needs to help his brother find balance.  Stefan needs to learn to feed in moderation, but not kill and find balance in his life as a vampire.  I do not want to see Stefan go back to be guilt ridden and self loathing like he was before.

Only a year has passed in Mystic Falls and Elena had just turned 17 when she met Stefan.   In reality they were only boyfriend and girlfriend for about 8-9 months considering he was gone for 2-3 months during the summer running with Klaus.  There is no doubt that Elena and Stefan’s relationship has changed forever.  Before she can ever make the decision to be with Stefan again, she needs to know who he is and love that part of him.

There is no doubt Damon was reckless and blind in his love for Katherine.  The poor guy spent 145 years trying to release her from a tomb she wasn’t in, only to be told she never loved him once they finally came face to face.  Now that hurt!

The slow build in Damon and Elena’s friendship, which has allowed Elena to know exactly who Damon is because he does not hide who or what he is from her, I hope will be the basis for a strong relationship.  If anything, Damon keeps reminding Elena that he is not human, but he is a vampire.  If this relationship progresses past friendship, it will be Elena that makes the first move, not Damon even though he has made his choice.

Rebekah had a valid point when she told Elena that she knows exactly who Stefan is and that a vampire should not be involved with a human.  At some point Elena will have to realize how true that is and will have to make a decision to either stay human and move on with her life, or turn into a vampire.  This is a choice that cannot be made recklessly or blindly.

  • Anonymous

Correct, Stefan only told Elena the truth when he was back into a corner or she had already found out the truth.  Since she found out they were vampires, Damon has been open about what he is and what he does.  I am enjoying the slow build to hopefully more than friendship between Damon and Elena.

Thanks il_isek.  I didn’t understand about using the forums – as I said, I’m relatively new to this site.  Got it!

  • Sushila

    AGREE!! This is so true!

  • Sushila

And that´s the point: Damon should be there for Stefan now! Helps him, listens to him,be a real friend/brother to him. To Stefan,NOT Elena – she has to be on the second place in this situation!

  • Sydney

Exactly. Making her a sociopath, like EvilStefan or Klaus. There’s always a justification – putting your family first in their ridiculous hybrid army plans is crazy! Plus, even if you are considering Elena dating Stefan as reason to agree with Rebekah’s hatred of her, she murders random people who have never harmed her.

  • Amy

I didn’t say anything about Damon loving Elena more than Stefan. The brothers may never admit that they love each other and that their bond is strong and unbreakable but we have seen time and again that they’ll always choose and save each other. As for my comment about Stefan loving Damon more then Elena was because alot of fans kept saying that Elena’s love will bring Stefan back.

We have also never seen a situation where Damon will have to between Stefan and Elena. Until then I will say DS is stronger than DE or SE…

  • guest

Damon isn’t only helping Stefan cos of Elena! He’s doing it cos it’s his brother, their bond is unbreakable. Stefan said that he needs to help save his brother because he feels guilty for making him turn. He didn’t say that he’s doing it cos he loves Damon and he is the only family he has. But we know better. The brothers will never admit that they love each other but action always speak louder than words.

As for Damon not sacrificing equally for Stefan, there’s hasn’t been a situation where he has to do it. Elena is NOT his girlfriend. There will never be a sacrifice that will be equal unless Delena happens.

  • guest

Why does Damon and Elena’s friendship have to equate to Damon chasing after his brothers girlfriend? Why does his love for Elena means his love for Stefan mean nothing? In any case, didn’t Stefan break up with Elena, so why is she still considered his gf? What if Elena has to start dating like say Matt, will that be cheating on Stefan?

  • guest

I don’t think Damon is judging Elena. He was probably thinking about himself cos he loved blindly and recklessly as well and can understand where Rebekah is coming from.

  • Amy

Loved this comment about Damon being a poster boy for a punching bag! That’s exactly what his been this season… And looking at Epi9 promo, he’s going to get beaten up by Tyler!

  • Amy

I like your mother!!! LOL :)
