Reaction Post & Poll: Vampire Diaries - The Reckoning (EP305)THIS POST IS A STICKY. KEEP SCROLLING FOR NEW POSTS.

We could wax poetical about tonight’s episode, but we think this quote from Julie Plec on Twitter sums it all up perfectly:

Tonight’s TVD is how sh*t goes down when Klaus feels betrayed. #someoneneedsahug. #ortherapy

Somewhere in Mystic Falls there’s a therapist raking it in…

Don’t forget that directly after The Reckoning you can watch The Secret Circle, the new Thursday night companion for The Vampire Diaries from Kevin Williamson, based on another L.J. Smith series.

Watch and then swing by here to rate the new episode of The Vampire Diaries. Spoilers are welcome in the comments, though if you want some more in-depth discussion then head on over to the forums! (You’ll need to register, but it takes two seconds.)

Quick guide to the poll options: Look, we know you’re all unimpressed with the mousetraps as a prank, but this is Mystic Falls! Do you have any idea how big the mice in this town are and what they can do?! 5 mousetraps = LOVE. 1 mousetrap = MEH.

What did you think of The Reckoning (EP305)?

Ha! I love that…where was Mr. “take a beat.” Hilarious! But how ironic is it. He tells Damon to “take a beat” but when Elena really needs Alaric, he “takes a beat.” In all seriousness though, I don’t think Alaric knew what was going on. And its not like he’s Elena and Jeremy’s father. He’s not going to keep track of them 24/7 though I think he should after all the things that have happened.

I think more disappointing than Stefan being compelled is how all of a sudden Stefan’s struggle is all about Elena? Stefan deciding to give up his humanity had absolutely nothing to do with Elena at all. It had everything to do with his love for Damon, so I’m hating that they’re making his struggle all about his love for Elena and simply glossing over the fact that his love for his brother is why he made the decision that he made in the first place.

I can’t even express how disappointed I am with the fact that Stefan is  compelled. It has nothing to do with writers giving him an excuse or anything like that.. I just hate that there is really almost no struggle, yeah he tried to resist compulsion and partially succeeded (which was also very forced as Stefan has never had any experience even attempting to resist compulsion but I digress) but Stefan’s change in personality and the loss of his humanity is  something that was simply taken away from him and will be restored once Klaus is killed. It’s not an internal battle that he fought and lost in a moment of weakness and that really takes away the impact of it all. He’s pretty much a victim of big bad Klaus and I’m not liking it.

I can’t even make sense of most of this storyline because I just feel like it’s all over the place. First of all, they’ve yet to actually clarify what makes a vampire a ripper. Secondly Stefan killed two girls ripper-style in the season opener (ripped them from limb to limb and put them back together) doesn’t that constitute as him already slipping into the darkness and losing his humanity? Can someone with even a twinge of humanity commit such horrific acts? Then we’re told that he feels remorse, but then we’re told that he makes a list of his victims so he can remember the whole experience (???) Then we’re told he blacks out and can’t remember anything, how does he relive the experience if he can’t remember anything?

Then the flashbacks from the twenties just adds to the level of confusion to this storyline. Apparently Stefan was living it up in the 20′s with Klaus and Rebekah, he and Klaus are somewhat like brothers and he clearly had romantic feelings for Rebekah, possibly even loved her in his ripper state. Fast-forward to now, he’s gotten back all his memories that he was compelled to forget and none of those feelings for Klaus and Rebekah even surface for a moment. Everything remains the same. If they want us to believe that Stefan’s love for Elena and Damon is such a powerful force shouldn’t whatever he felt for Klaus and Rebekah at least have somewhat of an impact on him too? This is the most disappointing for me.

Also I could have sworn that there was really no humanity switch (as Rose told Damon) so how could Klaus even compel Stefan to turn it off anyway?

Ripper disappointment aside, I actually loved the episode.

Didn’t see Tyler turning into a hybrid. That’s obviously going to start all kinds of problems.

Thought it was a bit predictable that Elena’s blood would be needed to turn the hybrids.

Katherine and Damon are always entertaining to watch.

That Michael dude is quite scary looking, can’t wait to see how this unfolds.

Matt was awesome and fearless! Glad he’s getting more screen-time. He has great chemistry with Bonnie, they should share scenes more often.

I love it when Damon said he would never leave her again!!!

Blackouts are because Klaus compeled Stefan to forget them, isn’t it? At least i understood it this way, that’s why time spent in Chicago was a blurr for him. About ripper thing – the list was made in 1920s, right? Back then Stefan was on full ripper mode, so he was reliving his kills, but i think now during his time with Klaus he was noting these victims’ names to remember and “torture” himself.

Damon told Alaric that Stefan, when in ripper mode,  feeds so aggressively he blacks out and rips his victims apart.

Klaus had nothing to do with Stefan’s blackouts.  Klaus only compelled Stefan to forget about his time with him and Rebekah.
