Matt: Sorry Elena, but I have some more bad news for you: you failed Ms. Baresi’s Midterm. Yeah, I know….. devastating right? lol

  • dman_24

BTW, Ms. Baresi was one of my favorite teachers from High School. She taught English and definitely helped me in honing my writing skills. Thanks Ms. B.

  • Gwen

    Nice…thanks for sharing… :-)

  • Gwen

Matt: Hey Elena I know this might be a bad time, but if you ever decide to burn down your house can I have the Xbox?

  • dman_24

    Funny Gwen! Haha!

  • Gwen

Interesting spoiler on Matt…according to this article Matt ends up in bed with Bex and Nadia…Wow Matt is really embracing this truly living thing. They also hinted at a possible romantic relationship with Nada….finally, Matt gets a little lovin…If anyone deserves to be happy it is Matt. I hope this spoiler is true, which means Matt may survive S5. Also, very nice picture of him and Nadia…he looks very commanding. It would be nice to have another relationship to divert our attention from the triangle.

  • dman_24

Honestly, I don’t like reading spoilers or having people post them, but I’m so fed up with the show–I don’t really care anymore. Doesn’t look like it’s too big of a spoiler though. Yeah, Matt definitely deserves some happiness, but I don’t think his situation is any worse than anyone else. I mean…. look at Elena’s situation: she lost everyone she loved; was turned into the very thing she hated–a vampire; and had to go through a traumatic experience of losing her brother. Comparable to Matt she has a lot more to deal with. But speaking as a guy (Ha!), it’s certainly not a bad thing going to bed with two beautiful women. Definitely not bad. Enjoy Matty. And oh yeah: tell me the details later. Haha!

  • Debbie

I have to agree with dman. So sick of spoilers, and honestly, they are getting really repetitive and not very interesting. I like that Matt is living and enjoying life, but I’m having trouble seeing the impact it’ll have on s5 (other than maybe the 1st episode). One thing I do hope is this new side of him will make him a little more exciting, because I found his character to be a bit boring last season (too serious!!!).

  • dman_24

You’re right. Matt is and always has been a boring character to me. l don’t know if it’s the lack of an exciting storyline or Zach Roerig’s portrayal of the character, but Matt has done little over the years for me to get excited about. Saying that, I do like him, and he’s a good guy, so if his character is getting more attention this season it’s definitely deserved. Hopefully it’s something that enhances his character and something I can get excited about.

Here’s a comment I wrote awhile ago that pretty much explains how I feel about being on this site and spoilers in general:

I’m going to be honest: As much as I love this website, and some of the fans on it, it’s often been a detriment to my overall enjoyment of
the show. I find myself constantly spoiled — either by someone’s clever speculation or some random drop of confirmed information. Reading
through a million (literally! lol) comments, everything is deciphered to it’s most miniscule form, leaving little to the imagination, and allowing for an almost predetermined knowledge of the upcoming episode.

However, as much as I protest to the perils of it all, I can’t seem to not be on it. Not only this site, but others as well. Being part of the TVD community can be intoxicating. Not only do I learn a wealth of information about the show, I’m also able to showcase my own knowledge and creativity — which can be an intensely satisfying experience when shared among appreciative fans. There’s nothing like watching the show
and coming here to discuss it. And depending on the episode, it can be either an exciting, frustrating, sad or happy place to be. But more than that, it’s a place to be. A place to enjoy the show with fellow TVD lovers and bask in the knowledge that you’re home.

So, being on this site is kind of a double-edged sword for me. It’s fun and exciting, but it also diminishes some of the spontaneity of watching the show. Nevertheless, the positives do outweigh the negative, so I guess it’s not all that bad.

BTW, are you a DE or SE fan? I think I forgot which one you were. Also, what’s your favorite episode of TVD? Mine’s is Lost Girls.

  • Gwen

Dman…you just broke my heart… :-( you are one of the few enjoyable posters; please tell me you
will stick around for S5? Your insight, challenging (especially when D/E & S/E bashing occurs) and most of all levity posts not only add balance but harmony back to the site. I agree with You/Deb. the spoilers have been very repetitive & annoying. Even though this is not by any means a big spoiler, I know this site has a few Matt fans & it would be great if one of our remaining humans/original gang members from S1 got to start seeing some real air time (we will see if he has the acting ability can pull it off). Yes, Elena has been through worse but focusing on Elena (which made sense in S4 since it was about her transition into a vampire) can get exhausting. Other character growth would be a nice change. I can’t agree more that the spoilers, theories, speculation and some of the negative posts are a double-edged sword and can add to the overall detriment of enjoying the show. I remember in S4 sitting down to watch an episode and thinking to myself what will Damon do now that will give ammunition to the Damon bashing group on the site. Then I realized how ridiculous I was being… it’s only a show for my enjoyment and I stopped reading /responding to certain posts (this comment is not all a slight on you just how I felt at the time and the realization how these sites can rob you of enjoyment if you let them). Yes, the bad outweighs the good. I like “some” of the theories, observations and keen insights not only are they helpful in understanding the show but they can be fun…like trying to put a puzzle piece into place or playing the game of ‘Clue’.

Sorry for the long response…I really appreciate your honesty. The spoiler piece you wrote below is a great read thanks for sharing.

  • dman_24

Thanks for the compliments. The spoiler piece below was definitely one of my most well-written posts. I enjoy reading it as well.

About focusing on Elena: I wasn’t suggesting that the show should focus only on Elena, I was only pointing out the fact that comparable to Matt, Elena has dealt with a lot more tragedy in her life. Obviously Matt has his own issues as well, but I don’t think they’re any worse than all the other characters on the show. Though, now that the Originals are gone, I sincerely hope the show re-focuses its attention on its core characters, especially the more neglected ones — namely Bonnie AND Matt. I think the show has done a real disservice to those two characters over the years, often relegating them to side plots and trivial storylines. So, now that there’s a little more room to maneuver, it certainly wouldn’t hurt to learn more about them and for them to be more involved in the overall plot of the show.

Yes, levity IS important. Definitely on this site, but in life as well. Not only does it break up the monotony of the “serious” (it’s a television show for God’s sake. lol) conversations taking place, it adds much needed humor which can be a God-send and an enjoyable aspect in and of itself. I try to provide that as much as I can. Obviously there’s a time and place for it, but clearly there’s no doubting its necessity.

Yes, I will stick around for season 5. Cause despite my objections about the show and the decisions it has made, it is still my favorite show. And though it’s not great anymore, it’s still quality programming. Plus, I like the actors (especially Nina) on it and I’m too attached to the characters for me to just “give up” on them. Also, now that I have a new computer, I’ll try to comment as often as I can…… other than….. you know….. when I’m not too tired or working.

  • Gwen

I know the spoilers have been nothing but repetitive of late…which I am sure means the crew is off working on S5 and has very little time to talk to reporters…I posted this baby spoiler about Matt since I know Georgia Peach and few other fans like Matty Blue Eyes….thought they might find it interesting, especially the picture with Nadia.

I also thought Matt did a good job in this episode when he is in his truck mourning Jeremy…S5 – with him being tied to Nadia maybe he will get more face time…like you said bolder, more exciting and maybe even a little romance on the side. I am also hoping they loose the whole bus boy thing…maybe Bex will fill his bank account before she heads to NO or make him owner of a pro-football team :-).

  • Gwen

Matt: I promise Elena never to stop pining for you, even if I spend the entire summer traveling the world with Rebekah and end up in bed with two super hot chicks.

  • Debbie

I like that you posted that spoiler, maybe if gives us something to look forward to…

  • Debbie

De fan. The heart of darkness. ;)

I remember reading your take on spoilers and it is all true..there is good and bad to spoilers. I think back at some of the surprising events of last year (ie, Jeremy’s death, Stefan-bex hook-up)…had I have not read spoilers, I bet they would have had much more of an impact, the shock was taken away. But this site does give me a lot more insight on the show, to look at it in different ways, I can’t give that up.

  • dman_24

Yes, this site does give you more insight into the show, but it’s definitely at a cost. I remember watching season one (before I came on this site), and it was such an exciting, thrilling, unpredictable period in my life. The show was so good back then and I enjoyed every minute of it, safe from any preconceived notions or spoilers that would have otherwise diminished my appreciation and enjoyment of it. Saying that though, this site has enhanced my knowledge of TVD, and it has also enabled me share my love of the show with like-minded fans that are just as passionate as me. So, like I said before, the positives do outweigh the negatives, and at the end of the day that is all that matters.

Also, if you don’t mind, would you answer the last section that I wrote. Thanks.

  • Debbie

i love Matt and I love Zach as an actor…but ESP in the past couple of seasons he’s been underused, and portrayed in the wrong way. It seems like he’s the guy vamps use when they need a human…we’ve seen it time and time again-Elena used him to feed on, the gang used him to stake bex. Damon used him to get Elena’s humanity back etc etc. He is the humanity of the show (as we see in 4.15), not always as the victim and weak link. He should be the one coming up with great plans, who uses his humanity for good. Otherwise, they are just wasting a great character.

  • Debbie

Sorry just one more thing to add…everyone on the show has their good and not so good side. Everyone but Matt…he is pure and good, that’s what makes him so special. all of the talk of threesomes is cool, But please don’t make him go dark and evil. We need just one purely good levelheaded person left! If written in the right way, he could be an important part of s5.

  • dman_24

It’s amazing how it’s just me, Gwen and Debbie that have been commenting all summer long. I have to admit: I’m a little disappointed in that! Where are all the other fans? There is clearly a marked difference between this summer and last. Hopefully everything returns to normal soon, but it’s still a little sad that there aren’t as many people as there use to be.

You can thank JP & Co. for their inconstant writing of S4. Many viewers were turned off by the way she wrote Elena changing brothers. JP took vampelena to the very bottom of her existence destroying everything she cherished as a human (compassion, friendship, and family) even burning all her memories and home, then she added the SB as a supernatural trigger,to leave her no option but to choose Damon in the finale. The choice could have been written with a little more style and not so destructive to Elena’s character.
Many Stelena viewers are simply done with the series. I base this on comments I’ve read on other boards where posters have vowed to never watch live again. The writers know the backlash is coming and have decided to factor in web streams and file downloads into the viewing numbers (fudge factors) to offset the bad numbers coming in Oct.
Like you I’m addicted to the series and will watch no matter what. My hope is that CD can take the series back to a character based SL that was evident in S1 & 2, getting away from the shock and awe approach used in S4.
Where’s Kevin when you need him. LOL

  • dman_24

Debbie, I totally missed your answer. So you’re a DE fan and Heart Of Darkness is your favorite TVD episode. Hmmm…… interesting.

BTW, I wrote a really long post on that episode; some of it rather funny. If you’re interested, check it out. It’s in Crissy Calhoun’s review for that episode. Bye.

  • Debbie

I think its my fave, or That’s def in my top 10, it’s hard to narrow down when you’re as big of a fan as I am. I’ll look up your response, thanks for the heads up!

  • Debbie

Wow your post was hard to find…but well worth the find your post was awesome! I can’t say I disagree with anything (though I didn’t think the explanation of the motel was worth a full paragraph, though I have to agree the motel could have been seedier :)). You hit the head on why this was one of my faves. for me, it had the right balance of romance, violence and suspense…and opened up so many doors for so many characters (whether they be good or bad doors). And that for me is what tvd is all about, the characters.

  • dman_24

Thanks. Glad you liked it. About the motel: I like to expand on things I find interesting or I feel needs attention, so that is why I talked a bit more about the motel. Fans (DE mostly) were thrashing it, and I’m like…. there’s nothing wrong with the motel. It’s just a regular motel. I know it wasn’t the most romantic spot, but it was an unexpected moment, so they had to use what they had. I think it was a totally realistic scenario, which made everything all the more appealing.
