Brace yourselves, everybody! TV Guide has revealed a brand new cold open for The Vampire Diaries Season 4, one that makes a big change from the style we’ve seen in previous seasons, it takes us back to the earliest days of the show.

In our exclusive video below, Elena (Nina Dobrev), Damon (Ian Somerhalder), Stefan (Paul Wesley), Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen), Caroline (Candice Accola), Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) all lend their voices to the narration that will kick off the upcoming fourth season. A variation of this will be used in each episode to catch viewers up on major plot points that have happened thus far.

    love it :)

Great opening, but they contradicted themselves in it. First they say there were supernatural doppelgangers. Then Elaina says she is human, or all least she was. She was born a doppelganger, Mikel knew she was 16 years ago.

The waiting is almost over. So excited.

Now if they could get a good theme song like Buffy’s that would be even better. Don’t really care much for the narrative stuff myself. I already know what happened, I’m sure everyone on here could probably even quote some of the lines! lol

  • From Beginning To End

The doppelganger/supernatural thing is always a little iffy. On the one hand, she’s considered supernatural because when she killed Alaric he came back. On the other hand, she could be compelled, unlike other supernaturals like witches and werewolves and regular vampires by other regular vampires. Oh well.

  • Whoneedsthecullens

just to clarify :-)) witches CAN be compelled, right? Abby was compelled by hybrid Tony. Bonnie … well, she had that dream that led her to Alaric, so she kind of was compelled, too. Or did I miss something?

    Matt carrying Caroline <3 omg

  • Pauline Bellan

I’m pretty sure Abbu was blackmailled by the vampire, because Jamie was compelled to kill himself :)

  • Pauline B

I meant abby. So hard to type on a phone :/

  • Jasmine

I can’t Wait!!! only 7 more days left!!!!

  • Georgia_Peach

It was Jamie that was compelled to kill himself in order to force Abbey to trick Bonnie and work with Daniel (played by Daniel Newman), the Hybrid, to locate the coffins for Klaus.
Abbey was not compelled, Jamie was the one that was compelled

  • Georgia_Peach

It wasn’t Tony the Hybrid that showed up at Abbey’s house, it was Daniel the Hybrid, who later got the Elijah heart snatch from behind.
