Heads up, Elijah fans! This week’s Vampire Diaries Bite from TV Guide features Daniel Gillies. Daniel explains Elijah’s unique accent and addresses the amazing facility that all Originals seem to have with modern technology. Spoilers for All My Children (EP315).

Love how much extra work Daniel Gillies puts into crafting Elijah’s accent!

He could have gone with his natural accent like the rest of his family – not only would that require the least effort but it would still be exotic enough for the purposes of his character. But he takes it one step further and creates this not-quite American, not-quite European accent for Elijah.

“It’s silly that they just came out of the coffins and they speak modern english.”.Well said,Daniel!I don’t understand why all the Originals should have a british accent.I doubt the only place they’ve ever lived is England.I wish the actors kept their true accent, especially Claire Holt whose accent is ridiculous and definitely not british.

     why would you say that

I totally agree. They should keep their true accents. Especially Daniel because his natural accent is a kiwi (New Zealand) one but I guess I kind of have to say this due to the fact that I myself am a New Zealander. Clair Holt has an Australian accent and considering shes been in a coffin since like the 1920′s and before that I don’t think Australia would have been as popular as it is now, I don’t think it would make sense for her to have that accent. On the other hand it doesn’t make sense for her to have a modern English accent either so I don’t know.

Before we met the Os,I had imagined them living scattered all over the world,so when they cast Australian actors,I thought it made sense that they would bring actors w/ different accents.Plus,Claire and Nate weren’t successful with their british accents, imo. But I love hearing them talk with their own accents!
