Silas has not fed for 2,000 years. If he didn’t raid the blood supplies at hospitals (plural) in the area, the human bodies would be stacking up. He would need a landfill.

Silas and Bonnie need three sets of 12 sacrifices (a triangle) in order to gain enough power to bring down the supernatural purgatory veil. There have been already in two sets of 12. Bonnie was trying to convince everyone it was okay to execute the third one. Damon was tricked into killing 12 souls in 1942 by the NOLA witch (Nandi’s mother). She absorbed that power do to what ever spell she was wanting to do. It had nothing to do with what is happening now. In order to practice Expression magic on this plane, 12 souls must be sacrificed in order for a witch to absorb the power. Bonnie is also in possession of Qetsiyah’s talisman, which makes Bonnie even more powerful.

Your raising some interesting possibilities, but I think it was Silas talking to Bonnie outside the house in 4×15. Everything else fits nicely though.

If the episode title “Because de night” refers to Springsteen’s song, I’m very happy of it… according to the lyrics. :-)

  • Manon

Nobody could see ghosts, except Jeremy, and he’s dead. Maybe Matt will get the role of ghost whisperer now, since he was able to see Vicki when he almost died. Or maybe the veil of that supernatural purgatory will be lifted by by then. I mean, they need to go somewhere with that storyline, right? Would explain the return of Alaric and Jeremy.

But then isn’t it an amazing coincident … ? Don’t you think that this incident will come into place some other time? I found it striking and keep thinking about it…

  • Georgia_Peach

I do not think that Damon being tricked by the NOLA witch in 1942 will come into play in present day. The NOLA witch (Nandi’s mother) used that expression magic for her own benefit. Silas and Qetsiyah used expression magic 2,000 years ago. There have been followers and practitioners that have continued using expression magic. It is not a magic that can easily be used on this plain. The cost is high to practice it. Shane’s wife was a practitioner of Expression Magic and tried to use it to bring back their son. Knowing all this, NO!, I do not believe what happened with Damon in 1942 has anything to do with present day, other than introducing the sire bond and what the high cost is to practice this type of magic.

I’ll admit when Klaus was speaking with Elena at the beginning of the episode he alluded to just daggering Kol. But the exchange between Klaus and Elena after Kol’s death does not seem as cut and dry.
Elena: “You said you were going to put him down too.”
Klaus: “I said I was going to make him suffer on my terms!”
I guess in my mind being essentially asleep for centuries (or decades…Rebekah was daggered 80 years right?) doesn’t constitute suffering–i.e. housed in a coffin.

Yes, I fully agree about Esther and Mikael’s characters. You don’t have to justify Klaus’ killing of them to me.

You’re right. Edit: I think when you’re 1,000 + years old you learn how to control your short-sightedness in favor of long-term goals.

Silas came back to Mystic Falls around the same time Bonnie did. Silas is who Bonnie was talking to in front of her house, although Silas was giving Bonnie the illusion she was talking to Shane…unless Silas and Shane are identical in their looks, which I doubt. Rebekah was left on the island with Vaughn and Shane. If Silas drinks your blood, he knows everything about you and your life. In the cave, Silas drank Shane’s blood, Bonnie’s blood, Jeremy’s blood and Vaughn’s blood. He now knows everything about them, which means he can use illusions and mind games to control them. Silas cannot do mind control unless he drinks your blood and knows your life. The blood supplies in three area hospitals have run dry. Silas is drinking a lot of donated blood. Silas in not morphing into other people, or taking over bodies. He doesn’t have to do that, if he even could, because he has the power of mind control and illusion. No one knows what Silas actually looks like. I am also not so sure vervain will have any effect on Silas. My guess is NO, it will not. Silas was turned into an immortal (vampire) through expression magic. The ingredients were not the same spell that Esther used. Rebekah is not acting strange at all. Rebekah is being Rebekah, she wants the cure for herself and she is once again working with Klaus.

There is no way Klaus was going to kill KOL permanently. He had put up with Kol’s behavior in the past. Kol was only daggered for 100 years out of his 1,000 years as a vampire. I find it interesting that Klaus daggered Kol 100 years ago in NOLA. Kol was completely against finding the cure, or raising Silas back then too. I wonder what happened between Klaus and Kol in NOLA 100 years ago to warrant Kol being daggered in the first place. I’m sure that will be revisited in a flashback episode.

  • shoe20

I agree with the blood theory that Silas knows about the person if he drinks their blood, but is there also a possibility he has the power the shape-shift and intimate the person also?
I think one of the reasons he’s grabbing all the blood in the area is he’s controlling the food source for the MF gang.

  • DarcelleM

Yea I don’t get Klaroine and why people say it better than Delna!!!

  • napoli

It just seems strange that Silas wants the veil dropped for any reason other than himself. Most monsters aren’t benevolent so why would he want every supernatural force saved especially witches who would potentially band together to get rid of him. It’s clear Silas has already lied about the Young massacre.

  • shoe20

I have know idea what Silas is capable of with bring the dead back. Shane has said several time it would be those who died for Silas, but who knows if you can believe anything Shane says. TVD is getting a little low on characters so maybe it’s everyone. LOL

  • shoe20

Silas is going to divulge something about Delena in 4×18. Is the source of his info getting Damon’s blood from the MF hospital? It’s the only thing I can come up with. The Guys been pretty rock hard for 2000 yrs – how does he know anything about the MF gang?

  • GrimmLeFray

You never know, it might make it into the spin-off. I just can’t imagine a show about “The Originals” without the whole family.

  • Georgia_Peach

I don’t think Silas has the power to shape-shift into another person. Everything so far on the show has pointed to Silas being an illusionist as well as a vampire, who also had very strong magical powers. Typically, in vampire lore, a vampire can have the ability to shape-shift into an animal. I suppose anything is possible, but I don’t think so. I don’t think Silas is controlling the food source, I think Silas is just very hungry. A vampire without blood for 2,000 years would hoard and gorge the blood. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see where the writers are going with this. So far I have really enjoyed this season.

The synopsis for 4×18 = American Gothic doesn’t say anything about Silas revealing something about Damon/Elena.

  • shoe20

Synopsis for 4×18 posted on Damon Central.
The realization that Silas is in Mystic Falls causes quite a stir. Caroline bonds with Klaus in the hope of convincing him to reconcile with the other Originals, whom it turns out is the key to stopping Silas. Elena returns from New York with a new emphasis on her and Damons relationship, which will be put under further strain when Silas reveals
a dark secret to Bonnie. After an encounter with Katherine, Elena makes a surprising revelation about the truth behind her relationship with Caroline.

    Could be fake I guess.

  • lolalovestvd

Pretty sure this is the official synopsis for 4×18 – AMERICAN GOTHIC:

Race for the Cure – Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Rebekah (Claire Holt) take off in search of Katherine (also played by Nina Dobrev) and find themselves in a small town in Pennsylvania, where Elena has a surprising encounter with another old acquaintance — Elijah (guest star Daniel Gillies). Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) are both concerned about Elena’s state of mind and are determined to do what’s best for her, but she makes it clear that helping her will be difficult. Damon is not sure how to react when Stefan reveals his unexpected plan for the future. Meanwhile, in Mystic Falls, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) receives Caroline’s (Candice Accola) reluctant help and comes to a new understanding of Silas’ powers. Kellie Cyrus directed the episode written by Evan Bleiweiss & Jose Molina (#418).

I agree you can not believe Shane…one minute he is telling Bonnie that Silas will bring the Council Members back from the dead the next he is telling her they were a noble sacrifice.

Speaking of the council members, do you or anyone know if it’s ever been confirmed that Hayley’s parents were among that group of Council members the pastor blew up? or was Shane just using her to get his 12 sacrifices?

One last Shane ???. What was with him always saying “We are the beginning”? The beginning to the “end of all times” by releasing all the supernatural creatures into the world (or I guess combining worlds)? Shane was just Creepy if you ask me…

  • Debbie

I agree with you. I think Silus will really be someone to look out for, he really will be the big-bad of mystic falls. He strikes me as the klaus of second season, crazy super powers but we just don’t know what to expect. Shape shifter we haven’t seen any evidence yet. I also don’t think he takes over people’s bodies, we already have klaus for that. But he is an illusionist which is extremely dangerous in itself (shane is bonnies illusion!) and more powerful than even klaus…by the looks of it, smarter than klaus as well.

Will he be stoppable? It’ll take a while, but I’m sure they will find a way. It’s way too early in the storyline too predict too much, illusionist who wants to open a portal…we’ll see how the next few episodes play out.

If I was to guess, I think he might be like an Elijah. Extremely powerful and all-knowing, but willing to make deals to get what he wants (and being noble enough to stick to them). And, extremely charming. Otherwise, how would the mf gang be able to survive?

  • lolalovestvd

Maybe they can convert Silas into a frenemy the way they have all the other villains so far. :D

  • Georgia_Peach

That is not the official synopsis that was released by the CW..

  • napoli

The other part that is strange is how often Damon keeps saying he doesn’t want the cure. It’s almost as though they are setting it up so Damon is the one who ends up with the cure. Either through force or he makes the sacrifice to save Elena or Stefan.

For Silas it just seems as though to get his full strength he needs Bonnie to harness more power. Whether it really will bring other supernaturals back – perhaps he wants revenge on Quetsia – can’t be good for anyone except himself.

  • napoli

There’s a new webclip for 4×17 at CW

  • guest

…sigh. And therein lies the basic problem I have in liking many of the characters on TVD. The concept of collateral damage, and sacrificing the lives of others for your own being deemed somehow noble. That construct makes me sad. :(

  • guest

I’ve been wondering why they didn’t address this when he was leaving. Would have been easy, and probably a touching moment between the two, if she had said she was coming with him and he wouldn’t let her do that because of her mother. The way it played out just left us all questioning why.

  • VAMPLOVER1973

Doesn’t make me sad. I expect there to be a ton of collateral damage when watching a supernatural show about vampires. The characters we know and root for are both good and evil, you have to expect that going in;)
